Fantastic Golf
Aug 2021
Lakota Canyon / Lakota Links is a fantastic, world class golf experience. Dramatic Jim Engh design, many baranca carries, fabulous scenery and great conditioning make this a must play. There are tees for all, but you should have a few years of playing before you tee it up here. Play it!

A Beauty but...Long Round / Bring lots of balls
Jul 2019 • Friends
The course is situated beautifully, with gorgeous views. It quickly becomes Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. I enjoy a fun and challenging course, this one was like an amusement park ride and at the end you want off. It did not help that the guys in front of us looked for every ball they lost ad nauseam, and there is plenty of opportunity to lose balls, so bring a lot and stick to the 3 minute search rule. We waited for 15 minutes per hole. I called the pro shop but they were resistant to send someone out to move the guys along. We could have finished in a little over four hours, but was five hours plus in the 95 degree heat. I would golf it again, but wait for spring or fall when temps are lower. Just bring balls...guys, and be prepared to donate them. I lost 3. And like other reviews...lots of hills to climb to get on and off the greens.

Older golfers beware!
Jun 2019 • Friends
This course is beautifully situated in the canyons, but there is not a single level spot on the course. Balls off the fairways are impossible to find in long grass, and some of the fairways have nasty pot bunkers that you need a ladder to climb out. Many greens require walking down steep grassy slopes. I have a sore knee just navigating all of the slopes! We stopped scoring on hole 5 and just dropped in the fairway to avoid all of the drama. I don’t recommend this for anyone that can’t hit exact shots off hill slopes.

Get a massage at the Lakota Canyon Clubhouse!
Feb 2019 • Solo
Sonni is the best massage therapist I have ever been to! She is truly a healer, she's quiet and the Lakota Canyon Clubhouse is the most beautiful and inviting building. Sonni is very fairly priced and she has a bed warmer! You deserve a massage! Call 970-618-7537

Great views, tough on older folks, no accommodations for those with knee or hip problems
Aug 2018 • Friends
I had played Lakota a number of times before I had total knee replacement and developed bursitis in the hip. When I recently played there I realized it is no place for 77 year old folks like me. There is virtually no hole that you aren't walking down a bank to the green or up a bank to your cart or the green. Carts aren't allowed close to greens so this exacerbated the situation. Until they institute a flag system that will allow golfers with problems to get nearer the holes or greens in their carts, those with knee or hip issues should stay away.

The new club house is very nice, the price of golf with lunch included was enticing and a pleasant change from the price increases of golf courses in the Aspen valley area. The bacon cheeseburgers made the day.

If you are hale and hearty, enjoy the fine course and it's lovely views.

Thanks for the nice review. I'm sorry to hear that and hopefully in the future we can implement something to the golf course to help older folk like you have a easier time getting to the green and back. Thanks - Dillon .F

Golf

I have played the golf course a number of times and I have always really enjoyed the course. It has some great holes and the views. They also do a good job of maintaining the course. The really cool part about the course is the number of holes where the tee box is elevated and you are looking down into a canyon where the fairway runs. They have finished and opened the new Clubhouse. It is a great addition. The food is great and the staff are friendly. The price is also very reasonable.

Well hidden gem
Aug 2017 • Friends
I don't think the course has one hole that is not scenic. So much water is poured on this course that it looks like billiard cloth strung out in a desert. No complaints with course. The operation itself is a little rough. It has 2 club houses one where you check in that has the restaurant and one on the hill above that was pretty much self serve in getting your cart. The rental clubs were literally a mixed bag of stiff , regular, and some kid length trouble clubs that defied being hit. Bring your own lunch as there is nothing at the upper facility. Lastly there are lots of golf trails up and over hills. Every piece of timber in the railings (except for one cross bar) along the drop offs were rotten. Drive carefully

Beautiful Mountain Golf
Aug 2016 • Couples
Great mountain golf course about 3 1/2 hrs west of Denver. Tough but fair with a wide variety of tees. Absolutely picturesque views, especially on the front side. Very reasonably priced for mountain golf. Hopefully the clubhouse is finished because it has been a work in progress for the last ? years. Love the golf course though. We are returning in July 2017.

How do you concentrate on the golf?
May 2017 • Couples
Great course in west central Colorado 5 miles north of I 70. Dramtic elevation changes on every whole. Fantastic views in all directions make concentrating on golf very difficult. Interesting layout with plenty of blind shots and enough hazards to keep it interesting. The greens were in great shape. Find a deal on golf now or tee times and pay substantially less than rack rate.
