    Best Summer Experience!!!!
BEST Colorado summer experience (and we go to CO every summer). My kids absolutely LOVED it, and the scenery was GORGEOUS! The very best part were the guides, Dave and Chris. They were very knowledgeable and sweet to my kids. Initially, my 7-year old daughter was terrified to ride the horse. Within the first 10 minutes, Dave befriended her and made her feel brave and confident. She still talks about him and her horse (Dixie) every single day. We will definitely be back again next summer!

Wonderful experience!!!! Casey was an awesome guide, made the ride fun and enjoyable. Lunch was great, 12" subway sandwich, chips, cookies, water, and pop or Gatorade. Took the 3/4 day ride to the waterfall.

    Absolutely wonderful tour!
My daughter and I went on an afternoon ride as part of a multi-day rafting/outdoor adventure. We had a fantastic time on our horseback tour, which lasted close to 3 hours. We rode along the river for a while and then made our way up the hillside to ride along a high ridge. Beautiful views all around. My suggestion if you schedule a ride late summer > go in the morning, if possible. It was really HOT on the day of our ride. Bring a large water bottle (you'll have a bottle carrier for this on your saddle). The guides were wonderful!

    Horseback ride to waterfall
Our experience was great! The ride up to the falls includes a steep, rocky hill but the horses managed well and our guide made sure we understood how to ride on the terrain. The waterfall is beautiful and a great place to eat the delicious provided lunch.

    Wonderful family activity
Wonderful stable; kind attentive staff and appropriate caution with younger kids. Hour long trail rider was interesting - dry terrain as well as crossing a creek several times. Would definitely recommend!

    Beautiful and well worth it.
The trail was absolutely gorgeous, with a luscious valley and some really fun hills. I went on a sunset ride and my guide Corey was amazing, he was very patient and a great conversationalist. The horse I rode was Clifford and he was beautiful and very well behaved once we got going. I highly recommend going on a trail here.

    It's a real trail ride
My husband and I went on the 2 hour trail ride. The scenery was stunning as we crossed the creek and climbed the ridge. Our guides were very skilled and knowledgeable and helped keep all the horses on task, especially the ones being ridden by children. We returned dusty like real cowboys LOL. Would definitely recommend.

    Waterfall horseback ride
Joined a group of 3 couples, 2 were very experienced and one couple had never risen. Horses were in great shape, never minded the climbing and very sure footed over the rocky terrain. They were all very healthy and well feed. Our wrangler was awesome, obviously loved what he does and expert horseman.

    BEST TRAIL RIDE EVER!
Hands down the BEST trail ride ever! We did the 3/4 day ride up to the waterfall with a packed lunch and the views were breathtaking! KC aka the good Kevin but AMAZING!! He made the whole experience unforgettable. I can't wait to come back and do a ride when there is snow on the ground. It was about 2 hours from Denver but SO worth the drive. The views on the way were unbelievable as well which made the time go by. I would 1000% recommend to everyone!

    Beautiful Ride!
My husband and I had the pleasure of taking the waterfall ride with Corey. Corey is a fantastic guide! He was very knowledgeable making sure we felt comfortable with our horses and entertained us along the way with the jaw dropping scenery. We were very fortunate to ride on the first day school started back up so the trail was relatively quiet. The lunch at the waterfall was hands down the highlight of our week long Colorado vacation! I highly recommend this wonderful experience!

I don’t recommend taking children under the age of 10. We took a six year old and they are placed on their horse first and made to wait approximately one hour before the ride begins. The child sits out on a horse alone for quite some time. He started crying after 30 minutes and wanted off, this means child and 1 adult paid $130 and didn’t ride. I would suggest they put an adult first then put the children on rather than leave a 6 year old on a horse alone. It took over an hour for all riders to get loaded and the ride to begin. The staff was great and loved the ride our only issue was the order they put the family on the horses and the waste of money.

While vacationing in Colorado with my kiddos we decided to come to Mt. Princeton for a trail ride (we had already been on one in Durango and we had so much fun, thought we would go on another) this time a 2 hour ride. With this stable being at the bottom of a mountain we were excited and hopeful that the ride would include a little bit of a mountain view with it. However, we were very very disappointed that our ride did not include any views whatsoever. At the start of our ride they mentioned taking us the "the ridge" with this being said we were super excited to be able to have some awesome views atop horses. About 45 minutes into the ride one of our two guides told the other guide to just take "the regular" trail this time. Our entire ride was through dusty cactus fields and we crossed two tiny streams of water. It was hot, dusty, zero views at all, and my kiddos were super bored. We did not feel that the $65 a person we paid was worth the ride at all. I would highly recommend going for a ride with another stable.

I would like to thank you for your honest review. With smaller children on the ride, it is the Guides judgement if they want to take the creek, ridge or just the trail. Once out on the ride the guide is to assess the ability/age of children and take whichever trail is less dangerous for them. If the ride would have consisted of all adults, the guide would have taken the ridge and/or creek. The ridge does consist of challenging terrain and our number one goal is the safety of our guest. Especially the Children. As for the dust, unfortunately we are in a drought and I am unable to control the rainfall. Therefore, the dust is usually a part of everyday life here in the Valley. Mt. Antero and Mt. Princeton (both 14,000 ft peaks) are visible for miles. Both mountain peaks are visible from all the trails that we use here at the stables. Again thank you for your honest review.

The 1 hour trail ride - while the guides were super nice and easy to talk to, the woman at the front desk was not as friendly. In addition, we left about 45 minutes after we were supposed to as the group was way to large and there were several smaller children going on the ride who just barely made the cut for age and never had experience riding before. About half way thru the ride, one of the kids fell off their horse, as they let go of the saddle to take a drink and just tipped off. The 1 hour ride was more like a 2 hour stroll and although I enjoyed the extra time on my horse, it was not the experience I was hoping for.

The next day, I brought my daughters there for a pony ride. Was told by the woman at the front that I needed to wait about 45minutes until the trail ride was back so there was someone who could do the ride with us. I asked how long we had and she said each ride was 30 minutes ($25 each). Fast forward an hour and 15 minutes later when the trail ride had returned AND loaded up another trail ride and left, a gentleman comes up to me to tell me that there is a pony tied to the carousel in the lot that we can put the girls on and that no one from their team needs to be there. It was "feel free to ride him for however long you want" and it wasn't anything more than me holding my kid and walking around in a circle for however long we wanted to. What a poor experience. My kids have both been riding for at least 2 years now on much larger horses and knowing that we paid $50 for the two of them to simply walk around in a circle (which I could have done the entire time I was waiting for someone to help us) was just ridiculous. Definitely felt taken advantage of.

I'll be going to another place next time.

Horses are well kept, “beefy”, and easy to handle. Views and waterfall were fantastic on 3/4 day ride. Lunch was plentiful with 12” sub, chips, cookies, and two drinks. This was our 2nd trip with Mt. Princeton. This time was not quite as good mostly because we were paired with two young (8, 10) girls who hadn’t ridden before so all of guides attention, rightly so, was on them but took away from speed of ride and his interactions with our family. Prior time, as others started, guides pointed our great areas, recommended pictures, and made the experience more fun. It is definitely a must do, but check first on group size and rider experience you will be paired with.

My son (8yr) and I are both unexperienced riders but he had his heart set on horseback riding during our most recent trip to Buena Vista. Having found this location recommended on a hotels website, I opted to book the 1hr designed for the novice riders. Upon arrival, I was so so happy I went with this location. The instructors, Jenny and Trinity, were both patient and beyond helpful in providing my son direction. Additionally, the horses were very well behaved, alleviating any fears my son may have been hiding. I highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for a memorable ride near Mt. Princeton.

This was truly a heaven on Earth experience. We did the 2 hour trail ride, and it was so wonderful. The trail winds through beautiful woods, across the Chalk Creek several times, up some fun inclines and hills to some majestic views of the mountains. I especially appreciated their focus on safety, being attentive to the individual needs of the riders and making sure each horse was a good fit for each particular rider. One of our riders had some bad pain half way up the trail, so one of the guides took her back without a problem. Our guide Jordan was especially gentle and a great companion to our 5 year old who we brought along. He led his horse and kept a close eye on him the entire time. I would do this exact same ride over and over and it is a MUST if you are in the area! Would give more than 5 stars if I could, highly recommend!!

We chose the full day experience which included lunch and a trip to the waterfall. I highly recommend doing that one as the waterfall is so beautiful and you are able to walk around and explore more of the area. KC was the perfect guide, professional, courteous, friendly and focused on our comfort and experience. You can tell he loves the horses and that he takes very good care of them. He is very knowledgable about the area's vegetation and wildlife. My son remarked that he wished the day would not end! It was a great experience and we would definitely do it again.

We had a great experience with Mt Princeton Riding Stables. The staff was welcoming and fun. Our youngest son was nervous about riding, but one of the staff members took him aside and coached and encouraged him. By the end of the 2-hour ride he was laughing and having a great time. Our guides were Jordan and Jen, EXCELLENT! Don't waste your time on a 1-hr ride, go for the 2-hr, the scenario was amazing. One other note, we made reservations on the Thursday before our Saturday ride ... NO PROBLEM ... they were able to easily accommodate our group of 7 riders.

My family of four vacationed to Colorado last week & horseback riding was one of our things on the bucket list. We were able to accomplish this by making reservations online. Check in was very easy. Wait time getting onto the horses was not very long at all. My youngest son was very excited to ride on the horse chosen for him but as we were waiting for the groups to get gathered onto the horses, his horse did a little shake because of an itch from a flyand my son then got very scared to ride. He was crying and wanted to get off immediately. I insisted he stayed on but he was not having it. RuAnn, one of the women who works at the stable came over and gently talked my son into staying on and making sure she stayed by his side the entire time. He gained her trust and was able to stop crying. We all then were able to start down the path they take us for the ride. RuAnn was an amazing leader. We were having so much fun the entire 1 hr ride that my son forgot all about his fear of riding. Thank you to RuAnn who took ALL of her time with my son. True expert work right there. The ride had amazing views, from river side waters, to the beautiful snowy mountain views. When we visit colorado again, we might just have to go back!

Great 2 hour ride. Nice scenery especially, and horses were very calm and well trained. RuAnn is a HOOT as a guide and truly a delight. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is we chose the 11am 2-hour ride on purpose because rain was forecast at around 2. When I called, I was told we should show up at 10:30 am and were guaranteed the ride itself would be from 11-1pm. However, in reality, by the time they got the whole group of people signed up for this ride onto their horses and ready, we didn't actually leave the stable until 11:45am, and then ended up getting rained on during the last 15-20 minutes of our ride, which wasn't particularly pleasant. In addition, the ride was actually 1 hour 45 minutes long from leaving the stable to returning (but we didn't care because we didn't want to be rained on further). However, I wanted to note this, as these rides are not cheap and should not come up short. However, we did have a great time and I would recommend them.
