After tossing my wind blocker hoodie today I decided it was time to write an honest review. I have lived in Colorado for well over 20 years. I have been an outdoor guide in various disciplines over the years. I discovered Melanzana During raft guide training. It was perceived you were not the "in crowd" unless you had one of these and Chaco sandals on your feet. I went crazy and bought literally 1-2 of every piece they made (before the "great Melanzana drought" shortages, when they had full inventory). After using these pieces in real life I am NOT impressed with the quality actually. I will say the waffle fleece has held up over the years great with really top quality, but not the wind blocker and high loft fabrics. After just a few washes (always on gentle cycle with Dr. Bronners baby soap and air dried) the items started to pill horribly, made them itchy and look awful and I felt it lost it's weather blocking qualities. I also hate the neck space of the pull overs. If you once had a ponytail or decent hair that day kiss it goodbye when you try and pull these on and off and enjoy the relentless static that draws hair into your face, not to mention with any layers under or trying to keep a hat on while layering in the cold. It's great that they have a hood adjustment for the face and long neck but why is the neck opening so small and not adjustable? It would also be really great if you had a way to keep the draft out of the bottom of the hoodies. I also dislike their socks a great deal for their feel, "stretch", fit, and wash and wear, after only a couple uses I had to toss them out. I have decided to no longer support this store after the many negative interactions with extremely rude employees and them NEVER having items to sell. Even when they say available online by the time you drive there they are sold out, even if you get there around opening there is always a line wrapping around multiple blocks, and now they only allow you to buy 1 item per person after all that effort! I won't get into the fact that sometimes when you get there they will have what looks like a full run of every size and color hanging by the front show room, but you're NOT allowed to even consider purchasing those items until they feel they are ready to do a full release at some future date. It's right in front of you and you can literally touch the clothes but oh no you can't buy it! I didn't realize Melanzana was aiming to go couture like Chanel or Louise Vitton during fashion week or a trunk show. I would drive 5+hours and pay for an airbnb or hotel in attempt to buy from these people. I would try for 2-3 days to catch a time there wasn't a line that took literally hours, and if you had the patience to wait those hours, again by the time you set foot in the door to see what they have the staff are rude and they tell you they have nothing and you walk right back out having wasted hours of your life for nothing. I have luckily found over the years that other companies are out there making better quality similar items (outdoor research, mtn hardware, J2 boutique in Salida, CO). I have to also point out that I am also confused like many others as to what the owner is trying to accomplish here. I know he says he has strict guidelines for how he wants to conduct his business which I respect. Yes he has no problem obviously making money hand over fist still, yet your customer service is the worst I have experienced and I have worked in customer service and retail for over 20 years. I am a retail business owner myself. The quality of the items I feel are not worth the efforts people are going through & I want people to understand it's literally just a status symbol with a cult like following, these items are NOT made from gold and also NOT the best quality/fit I have bought. I think even local customers will become annoyed and choose to walk away from this brand if it keeps conducting business in this manner as my family & friends have. My last attempt to buy ANYTHING was Oct. 2020. Just a side note: I have been attempting to buy a single pair of pants for my husband there for literally 3 years with zero luck, after constantly stalking the website traffic lights on availability and changing my work schedule and spending hundreds of dollars on over night stays and gas money & even asking my old employee that lives in Leadville, to go in for me. My efforts were all a waste. I am now feeling very jaded and beyond annoyed and disgusted that I wasted so much of my life on these people for some midgrade materialistic item. I hope you look to other companies and don't make the same mistake I had, life is too short. There are other companies that still make & use small scale handmade local products and I urge you to explore other options and spread the wealth.

We came for the ski Joring event and stumbled onto this store almost 10 years ago. I ought a pair of the fleece pants which I still have and wear every winter....they have held up perfectly and are as good as the day I purchased them. Can’t wait to buy more. Perfect winter wear for those of us who live in and love the mountains.thnaks guys for the awesome job!

I own one Melanzana hoodie, which I love. I would love to own more of their products but inventory in the store is nearly nothing every time I have visited. If they have something in your size, grab it quick. You might not get another chance.

Took walk around town. Not a lot to see, but they do have a clothing manufacturer, Melanaza, making 100% polyester outer clothing. They manufacture several pieces of clothing each day. Selection depends on many factors, but check it out. Worth a visit if you are going through Leadville.

It is sometimes hard to find good clothing made by good people and tested over time. This place meets the standard. Arrive early as they sell out quickly and for good reason.
