We spent the money and paid for a guided tour it was money well worth spent. Our Tour guide Brenda gave a very detailed explanation as to all that weird machinery lying around that you would’ve never guessed what it’s purpose was for. My husband...More

Yes the famous Matchless Mine. Save the $6 per person for the "self guided tour" and drive up the dirt road for free. Tons of old mining remains and a beautiful view of Leadville and Turquoise lake from the top. If you have rented a...More

we considered this as a $40 donation for some old building site. 2 Buildings that display some old newspapers, apparently living quarters. Another shows a cable system that controls the drop of a bucket into a vertical shaft. Save the money and go to the...More

The Matchless Mine is significant because of its connections with the Tabor family and the history of mining in 19th-century Colorado. Our tours focus on its historic aspects and the few buildings that have survived more than a century of Leadville weather. Unfortunately, the mine...More

I went on a tour of the Matchless Mine this week. The guide ,Brenda Miller, was excellent! As a former miner, she knows what she is talking about when it comes to mining, and she gives excellent information about the mine, and the Tabors.

We were ripped off here earlier today with the only mine tour I've ever been on that did not include touring any mine. You pay $12 to look at a couple old junk shacks and a few little placcards about the mining that took place...More

We took an hour long tour. It is definitely worth paying for the guided tour to get tons of information that you would not get on your own. Highly recommended.

What really made the tour was the gentleman leading the tour. He provided a fascinating narrative of the mine’s history. This is not a working mine, and you do not go underground, but it is interesting nonetheless.

I didn't see gold panning there, but there are many other places in the mountains where you can pan for gold. The Country Boy Mine in Breckenridge offers a tour into the mine shaft and gold panning afterwards.
