Worth the stop

When in Leadville this is one of the place to stop and take the train ride. It is a unique experience if you have not gone thru the mountains in a train. Plenty of free parking

This is one of the best mountain train rides in Colorado. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The amenities on board are top shelf and add to the comfort of the experience. You have the opportunity to see a variety of wildlife including deer and black bear and get off the train at the old water tank for a photo... More

This was a fun train ride. Very scenic trip into mountains outside of Leadville. Also a good history lesson of the area. Was nearly 3 hours. A very good value for the money.

WOW! Train ride lasts 2-1/2 hours. Train ride up the mountain and back again. Fantastic views but best views are on the opposite side of entry on the train. There are covered areas, enclosed areas and open areas to sit. You are literally riding on the edge of the mountain. I believe the price was $37.50. the depot is very... More

You take an old mining train on the southern railroad up the mountain. During this, you are witnessing the natural beauty that is Leadville. The trees, the valley, the colors, the smell, it's so relaxing! The history is explained to you via loudspeaker, all the while you are enjoying the crisp mountain air. If you have the time, and would... More

It's an okay trip in the fall if you catch the leaf colts at the right time. When we went late September we missed the colors by about one week, This was due to the cold/snow front that came through the previous week.

Check the weather & temperatures when planning to do this trip. We did & dressed appropriately. The train ride is slow but that gives one enough time to capture pictures. We were a little late to see the expansive aspen groves in full fall color (last week of September) but we were able to still see enough fall foliage. There... More

This train ride will take you high up in the mountains above Leadville. The scenery is absolutely spectacular with the tour guide keeping you engaged in the local history of both the town and the railroads that acted as the lifeline for this mining area. They stopped at the water tower up on the mountain for photo opportunities and you... More

We did this on our first day in Leadville. Booked in advance online. Travelled with 3 kids (age 7 6 and 1) and 6 adults. All of us had a great time. Lovely visit but freezing at the top of the incline. Good views and knowledgeable staff. Refreshment shop and gift shop well stocked and reasonably priced! Only drawback is... More
