The train goes from Leadville into the mountains with great views of the valley below and mountains all around. The uphill portion of the trip is narrated with history. At the reverse point, the train stops at an old water tower. At that point, the engine and caboose can be explored for free. I was traveling with a 62yr that... More

There are very nice views on this ride. It was nice for our daughter who has asthma so she could see the mountain without doing strenuous climbing. It was done well and was informative. Appreciated being able to bring snacks on board with us.

This is a fun relaxing train tour that is narrated and a lot of fun. Was not crowded. The people were very nice and you could tell they like what they were doing!

I'm a hiker but some of my friends are not. This was a great way for them to see the mountains. Train crew members were extremely friendly. They allow carry on snacks and drinks so feel free to bring your own or purchase from their selections. I recommend the zipline that crosses the train as an added bonus. You can... More

We took the train up and back, however, in the future would probably take it only up and then zip line back. Having opted for up & back, we then ate lunch and dos the zip line separately causing it to be a bit more expensive and time-consuming, however, our entire crew loved the way both trips were narrated. We... More

This is a 2 and 1/2 hour trip which might be a little long for small children. I was somewhat disappointed in the scenery, it was a lot of forest with many sick trees from the beetle kill, and these blocked any view. When the view opened up it was very pretty, but it did not change much. There is a... More

We enjoyed the ride; the conductor spoke more than we had anticipated but it was quiet for good stretches coming back down the mountain.

The conductor was very helpful and informative about area history and all the surrounding views and flora as we chugged up the mountain on the narrow gauge tracks. It is a slow ride, plenty of great photo opportunities and all seats have breathtaking views. There are no assigned seats, and you are free to move through the various cars to... More

My husband and I traveled to this area mainly for the train ride and we were not disappointed. We have taken many train rides including the Durango/Silverton and this was among the best. It's 21/2 hours and you can choose the open or closed box car. We choose the closed and could see very well. It was cool. I wore... More
