They have lots of brochures, maps, etc here. Judy was so helpful. I was looking for easy hikes and I did the two she recommended - River Trail and Monarch Lake, and I was not disappointed! I highly recommend stopping here at the starting your visit!

Enjoyed our visit there. The staff was polite. One staff member warned me to not carry my umbrella opened during the rain because of lightning. The bathrooms were clean. I got a kick out of the "Pull Gently" signs. The gift shop was competitively priced. We found a great selection of gifts. We didn't eat there. The view is great there. I appreciated the webcam the weeks before our visit to help me decide what to wear. Do not attempt the hikes outside unless you are accustomed to the elevation.

We stopped in because we wanted to know if there was a trail around the lake (there isn't), but the helpful lady steered us to Monarch Lake, a slight drive away. We were glad she did; the hike was everything she said it would be.
Plenty of pamphlets and information on the area in addition, plus phone books for your use if you need them. A worthwhile stop for us.

The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. With the floods, RMNP was closed. So we came in looking for other hikes. He pointed us in the right direction and we had a great hike. The facility is very clean and full of info on the local area. This is a great first stop when you come into town; and as it is right there when you arrive, it makes sense to stop.

The ladies staffing the visitor center the day we stopped in offered many interesting suggestions for our day in Grand Lake. They asked about our interests, provided us with maps, brochures and booklets about the town and pointed out the coupons available for discount prices available for many of the attractions. As a result, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit!

This freezes over for about 6 months out of the year, but in the summer months of July and August is just beautiful. Great destination for a road trip for sure.

Small center, easy to find right on the point...hwy & main drag. Found several brochures, but nothing as personable as talking to the employee; formerly from my home state. Sort of challenging while driving of the parking lot... look both ways!

The Visitor Center has all the information to make your stay or future plans. They know all the people and places to visit, and you can get the introduction to people you need to know to get things done. I loved this area!

Hi Grand Lake Fans,
Grand Lake is getting a much-needed upgrade of its street & storm drain system. We have waited patiently for years to be able to afford this project and it is finally happening! Unfortunately for visitors, the construction season is very short in the high mountains, which means crews must work hard in the summer to finish before the snows come. Please bear with us - the resulting improvement will be beautiful, not only downtown but throughout town. We will be improving access along the streets, putting in better street lights, and planting trees to replace the ones that were devastated by beetle kill 10 years ago. We are excited! We hope you will love the result.

Thank you for that update. It seemed that the hotel we booked at had gotten different information regarding the scheduling of this work, said they were told no construction work after July 4 in the high season. Maybe they were pleading ignorance so as to not have people cancelling

I am looking for a cabin in the woods in the lake area. Are there any?
Written September 10, 2016
I considered many cabins in the area. They were listed under VRBO. Many of them looked great. The prices varied. Good Luck. We really enjoyed the Gateway Inn if a cabin doesn't work out.

My husband and I are planning a trip to Grand Lake for Mid-March. Is this a good place to visit around that time of year? We are concerned that there will be too many things closed. Also we are driving all the way from Austin, TX and want to know if there are any precautions we should keep in mind?

We did go, and it was amazing! We did go to Grand Lake and some of the stores where closed but for us it was just enough. There was a great souvenir shop, a couple of coffee shops(The Hub was great), small grocery store, and a few restaurants. We also went to the neighboring towns like Winter Park which have a lot more options for restaurants, if you go to Granby you have to try Azteca Mexican restaurant. Its also the snowiest time of the year in March so we saw alot of snow all the days we were there. We rented snow mobiles at "On the Trail rentals" great service and paths, also took a sleigh ride which was very fun. In all it was definitely worth the 15 hour drive. We also want to go back during the summer when the lake isn't frozen.
