Location is part of a local school and my first impression walking was of a middle school science fair and I was glad that the admission fee was cheap. I couldn't have been more wrong and I realized very quickly that the appeal of it's structure is targeted to the kids, not the adults, and boy was my son attracted! We ended up spending over 2 hours here and he would have stayed for longer. Every single station is hands-on (except the bugs!) and covered so many different subjects. It was fun to watch which exhibits attracted him and by the time we were done I actually had a better picture of how his brain worked by which ones he came back to over and over again. I would recommend this center for anyone visiting Grand Junction.

Don't be fooled when you drive up to this and find it nestled in an elementary school. This place is GREAT! We actually ended up visiting twice while on vacation in Mesa, Colorado (about an hour away). This center has dozens and dozens of hands on, interactive science displays that engage children (and adults). We have six kids age 4 - 14 and everyone had a great time here. There are microscopes, wave machines, sound cannons, black lights, plasma spheres, bug/shark/creature glasses (they let you see like each animal), live creatures, bubble tricks, magnet fun and so so so much more. It was fabulous. I can't say enough good about this place. We came back for a "Curious George goes to Space" night that they held during our stay and did even more hands on stuff. We made asteroids, shot water rockets, created egg drop containers, designed alien masks, tasted astronaut ice cream. If you are in the area and you have kids (or you just like science) don't miss this place.

The John McConnell Math & Science Center recently renamed and moved to thier new location at Colorado Mesa University. They are now “Eureka McConnell Science Center” in the new Engineering building on 7th Street.
I throughly enjoyed my time learning through play about a variety of many different areas of science. I highly recommend this for not only children, but for adults also.

We were passing through town and needed a place to stretch our legs. I probably wouldn't have selected the center for just my husband and I, but thought it would be fun for our grandchildren. When we arrived, close to noon, school children were leaving and we had the place all to ourselves. An older volunteer engaged my granddaughter in various exhibits and even our 13 old grandson was intrigued. Center is very well done. We figured close to 50 exhibits that were both sophisticated, but easy for even younger children. Both my husband and I found ourselves slinking off to play at the various stations on our own. We left refreshed, impressed and sorry it's too far to visit on a regular basis.

Best money I ever spent. Brought my two children here....12 yo girl and 10 yo boy.
They loved it, we stayed almost three hours!. So many hands-on activities to do: electromagnetics, ultraviolet light, robotics, a bearded lizzard, aquatic life, air pressure, and too many to list. The friendly volunteers are great at explaining how all the things work. Perfect for all ages. Can't say enough good things about this center. We will be back!

The John McConnell Math and Science Center now called the Eureka McConnell Science Museum is filled with about 100 hands on activities that demonstrate a wide variety of math and science concepts. There are several live exhibits to be observed. Being located in the Colorado Mesa University affords close cooperation between the University and The Museum. An educational experience for children and adults.

This is a place you have to drag kids away from and it's very easy on the budget!
There are so many things to be enjoyed by the entire family, there are hands on exhibits and displays. There are also plenty of volunteers to help and explain if you run into any questions or snags. Often times kids don't realize they are learning as they are to busy having fun !

We retired to Grand Junction in 1998. I was a mechanical engineer and taught apprentice precision machinists for 30 some years. We visited the Math and Science Center many times, but have only followed media reports lately, and they tell me that the center is alive and well.

Visit Grand Junction. We have monuments, we have mesas, we have wine, we have great people, and we love to show you around. Now, bring your kids! The exhibits at the center include basic sciences, like magnetism, and ecology, and many are interactive. You and your kids will share wonder and learn some things as well.

Hands-on experiments on popular topics and probably an issue or two you yourself have always wondered about. Experiments are well documented with instructions and explanation of the science behind them and all are in working order. Volunteers are helpful. Plan on about an hour, it is a good experience that is different.
