If you're up for an exciting drive close to Denver, Co without delving deep into the mountains, then do take The Lariat Loop road. With stops at Golden, Lookout Mt, Evergreen, and Morrison, you can't go wrong with this adventure for sure!!
Left for Lariat Loop and went to Lookout Mountain--thought it was the loop according to our info. Couldn't find a brochure for it and thought it was where we were. Would have loved to drive it but no info on the highway (that we saw)...More
Found out about this drive form a lovely lady in Golden visitor centre. Pleased we did, otherwise would not have done it.
Easy route out of Golden, and up to Lookout Mountain to stunning views and Buffalo Bills resting place. We did a a short...More
This is a great little drive that will expose you to some great views of the mountains, hills, trees, and creeks along the way. It's an easy drive that takes you through some really nice places. You can just stay in the car and drive...More
We read about the loop from a DOT brochure. It looked interesting and would take us thru many little towns on the way. We visited an arts and crafts fair in Golden and the Colorado Railroad Museum. Both stops were enjoyable and the scenery along...More
I got the brochure at the visitors' center. Looked interesting so off we went.
The map is pretty useless and don't expect to see but 2 -3 signs to help you along the way. We got off track. The map is a pictorial, a piece...More
If you don't mind windy roads, this is a great drive with fabulous views of Denver and the Rocky Mountains. There are some real elevation changes and a vista for watching buffalo. Lamentably, we didn't see any, but the views were with the roadside stop.
This is a nice drive - if you don’t miss the signs which are not very obvious. We didn’t complete the whole loop because we just couldn’t find it! We had a leaflet with a map but it wasn’t very detailed and definitely wasn’t accurate....More

They both have spectacular views. Morrison to Evergreen, up Hwy 74 is probably more fascinating. Watch for the "kissing bears" rock formation on the left side of the road, going up. Going up and down on I-70 is spectacular mostly because of the view when you get to the top of Vernon Canyon and see the panoramic view of the Rockies and the Continental Divide. Going down you get to see the panorama of the plains that then stretch to the Mississippi River. Use a lower gear and don't burn out your breaks, which can be embarrassing and or deadly.
