Winter challenge.

Although I live only 30 minutes away, I've only hiked this trail once . . . in winter. The snow was too deep on the trail, and the road was open, but very, very icy in spots. We... read more

Although I live only 30 minutes away, I've only hiked this trail once . . . in winter. The snow was too deep on the trail, and the road was open, but very, very icy in spots. We had hiking poles, but no slip-on cleats to ensure good footing. Made for a dicey ascent up to where the sun keeps... More

This is a great Hike up to the Cross on top of the ridge overlooking Glenwood Springs and the Roaring Fork Valley

Not my favorite hike as far as hiking goes, you can take the trail or road, trail makes for a nicer hike; however, the road is easier. It is all up hill! The road and trail intertwine many times, so if you have different hiking abilities in your party you can take either trail. The views of the city and... More

This trail is TOUGH. Steep, rocky and somewhat gravelly at times. We didn't make it all the way up. However there's a nice trail that goes to the Wolfsohn trail which is a gradual climb and then the same elevation when you reach the plateau. Provides a nice view of the river.

Stay off the road and hike the mountain path up, and you won't be disappointed. Great view of Glenwood Springs.

We locals call it the "Hike to the Cross" and I've made the ascent many times over the years. Allow several hours to get up and down, unless your into fitness and running and don't have slow pokes in your group. Please bring plenty of water and wear good walking shoes. Great vistas and if you can find someone who... More

I've been hiking, skiing and biking this trail for 5 decades and never, ever tire of it. I started hiking it because it was just out my door, I had a dog and we both needed to off-load some energy at the end of the day. It drew me in and, before I knew it, I was in love. It... More

Nice enjoyable hike. Took our time and enjoyed the views. Not too difficult. There's a road if you are uncomfortable with the hiking trail. Would do it again.

A wonderful experience for our daughter's boyfriend from Estonia, who had never been to the U.S. Red Mountain with it's easier access (for a wheelchair) allowed him to experience some of Glenwood's true beauty! He was even fortunate to spot a beautiful young buck along the trail. One of our family's favorite hikes.

I rode my mountain bike up the Red Mountain trail this morning. I found it very enjoyable! Excellent views. Steep but manageable climb. Glad I had good brakes for the descent. I had about an hour to kill before the grand kids were up to go to the adventure park. I did not complete the summit but I must have... More
