We were on our way from Steamboat to Denver International and decided to stop here for lunch and a quick tour of this old mining town. Very colorful and interesting turn of the century buildings including an old firehouse and the Hotel de Paris both now museums. A number of quaint shops including a neat Christmas Shoppe and an old trading post. Had a nice lunch at Cooper's as well. A welcome and enjoyable 2 hour respite from the long drive.

If you love history combined with beautiful buildings, then Georgetown is the place to go. It is like you stepped back 150 years in the historic part of the town. My wife I went in February 2020 and with snow on the mountains, you can't get much better than that.
The shops are great and the people are super friendly. We ate at the Happy Cooker which was great.
Make sure to visit the old grocery store called Kneisel & Anderson, the owner is so sweet. Being in the store took me back to when I was a kid in Tennessee, right down to the local children coming in to get candy. The owner took time with the little one's on how to count the coins they had and what they could afford to get. We waited for as long as it was going to take for her to teach, which she ends up being a retired school teacher.
If you go into her store, buy a tube of Kalles in the blue and yellow tube. It is wonderful on rye crackers with cream cheese with a little smoked salmon.

We were lucky enough to visit on July 4, 2019. The town hosts an awesome Independence Day parade and throw lots of candy to the kids.
The old fire station museum was fantastic and the docent was a wealth of knowledge.
Dining options are very limited, and there were food and beverage shortages the day we visited -- even the Subway restaurant was out of several food and drink options. But overall, a great experience.

After a two week stay in Beaver Creek; we stopped in here for awhile, before continuing our two day trek back home.
We had so enjoyed our visits here in 2017, that we wanted to rekindle our memories a bit.
The Visitor's Center is a great place to start; where one can obtain an overview of and historical perspective on the area.
The downtown is a real testament to the local people appreciating and preserving this piece of our nation's story. The architecture is a wonderful step-back in time.
We had the added bonus of arriving on the day the town, unbeknownst to us, was preparing to start a pack-mule race. This was a real treat, and underscored some of the historic attributes of this area.
We hope it's less than 5-6 years before our next revisit here.

This little town is right off the interstate west of Denver. It's in a gold and silver mining area in the mid to late 1800's. The architecture of Georgetown's buildings reflects that time period with many Victorian buildings and homes. More than 200 original buildings still stand. We enjoyed driving around to see the various homes there. The downtown area offers some shopping opportunities in some of the old buildings. When we were there in October 2019 there was construction on some of the streets so there were several detours.

A terrific visit to the town. This town is very well kept and a reminder of what a miner's town would have looked like in the 1900's. Original buildings are still up and owners are restoring them very well. A great stop! The backdrop to the town is beautiful. A place where one can find history, good food, drinks and entertainment. A lot to learn in Georgetown. The people in the town are terrific! A place everyone must see!

On a trip with LS Tours, we made a quick pit stop in Georgetown to see the sights, by recommendation, and we were pleasantly surprised! What a nice, quaint little town just off I70. We went in several shops downtown and everyone was polite and welcoming. It's worth the visit!

If you enjoy historic small town America, there is one main Street with circa 1900 buildings surrounded by quaint Victorian homes on rolling streets in a quiet setting. A nice place to take a break if you are traveling on I70 about an hour west of Denver. You could just take a half to one hour break and drive the town, or spend a few hours looking around at the architecture and surrounding landscapes, and then go to The Alpine for one of the best pizzas you may ever have. At $24, not kid’s pizza, but well worth it.
Georgetown is great if you like small town historic America.

This place is one of my wife's favorite location to just get out and walk around. The shops are neat and the entire downtown is on the historic registry so many of the building are old, old, old. Lots of little cafe's and places to grab a bite or drink. If you haven't been you should. Especially the first 2 weeks of December when the whole town is decorated and carolers walk the street.

Will the restaurants and shops be open I Historic Georgetown the day after Christmas on the 26th?
Written December 20, 2018
I believe they will be open. This is a tourist place.
Written December 21, 2018
Yes, they do have a Christmas Tree lighting celebration and the locals decorate their homes as well. The weather can be unpredictable this time of year, so always check before heading there. The town is lovely during the holiday season; definitely worth a visit, weather permitting. You can also check their town calendar of events, for other holiday themed events. Hope this is helpful.

We have a 32-foot motorhome with a tow vehicle. We would like to ride the train and visit downtown. Is there parking closeby to either location that will accommodate large rigs?
