We had this site to ourselves, other than a friendly guard, when we visited in Feb 2020. It's only about 25 minutes from Ephesus and our hotel in Selcuk, so well worth the visit.

The information boards were helpful at explaining the construction of the temple, and it was interesting to see this temple had two adytons, now filled with water. We were able to scramble all about it.

Worth a detour.

Partly submerged temple complex dedicated to Apollo. For most of your visit you will be solely in the company of the resident frogs and turtles. For the casual visitor there is enough to hold your interest for 30 minutes to an hour. We have been twice in two years and enjoy it as a little respite from the "must do" attractions.
Free parking, 5tl. Entrance fee and toilets available.
Easy to find, just turn inland at Ahmetbeyli and it is a couple of kilometres on the right.

In many countries with less historical / ancient remains, a place like this would have been presented as another Pantheon or Acropolis. The place is close to the beaches and mountains also less than 1 hour drive from Ephesus, but still it is away from being an attraction point for tourists.

This was one of the most important oracular sites in Anatolia, and, unusually, only men were employed as diviners. Alexander the Great consulted this oracle, as did Germanicus, adopted son of Tiberius. The massive temple of Apollo is has a well-preserved podium, and there are still gargantuan statues of Apollo partly reconstructed. The rare survival pf a kategogion, a hostel for visitors also survives, with a nicely carved exhedra nearby. Two monuments honour a proconsul of Asia Minor, and an officiating priest. On the east side of the site is an Hellenic sundial. Parts of the site are submerged, especially in Spring and Winter, and have many frogs a terrapins.

Spent an hour or so with our children, wildlife and nobody else. Children mesmerised by turtles, frogs, snakes, insects amongst ancient remains and otherwise solitude
