We did the 6-hour tour with 6 adults and 2 children. The adults ranged from 40-73 and the kids were 9&10.

Joel (owner) picked us up from the house we were staying at and drove us to the train through a scenic route that included the Continental Divide. He was very friendly, on time and described what we were seeing the whole time. He took time to answer our questions. Joel has a wealth of knowledge of the area and its history.

Joel made sure we knew what we were doing at the train depot, got us where we needed to be and told us what to expect when it was over. The train ride was fun and enjoyable. Joel took pictures of us while we were riding on the train from the side of the mountain.

Half of our group did the mine tour which I highly recommend. It was so interesting and well done.

The other half of our group met us in Georgetown where they had time to shop and look around. We enjoyed a root beer and got back in the van.

On the way back we stopped to take pictures at the continental divide.

I highly recommend this tour. It is the priciest thing we will do on this vacation but it was well worth it. We will remember this experience forever and I’m glad we did it as a tour and not just caught the train on our own.

This was an excellent day! We did the 6 hour tour with shopping and lunch. We were picked up on time at the site we were staying and took a very scenic drive to the “Top of the World” where we were able to take pictures at the Continental Divide. We then drove through a variety of avalanche areas and were told all about the way they are managed which was interesting having never had to deal with anything like that! Once we arrived at the train station, everything was taken care of by Joel! The train ride was nice and it was neat to learn the history of the train. After the train, we went to eat and the food was amazing! A leisurely lunch followed by shopping in Georgetown and yes, floats to finish the day! Our kids (ages 10 and 7) had a great time and our youngest fell asleep on the ride back. We definitely got to see and experience things we would have otherwise missed out on. Totally worth it!

This excursion was perfect for our family. Our driver, Joel, picked us up at our rental. While traveling to each of our destinations he shared information about the mountains. The Georgetown train ride that lasted one hour took us through beautiful mountains and rivers. However that was just one aspect of a fantastic excursion. Joel took us to Georgetown and to Loveland Pass to experience snow in July!! And you will also totally enjoy the added surprise!! I would definitely recommend Alpenglow Adventure Tours!!!

Joel just gives you a ride to the train station. He plays middle man’s charges you 3 times the cost if you buy the train tickets from the station directly. I consider this a tourist trap don’t fall for it like we did. Not only does he show up in a terrible shuttle van with dents and weather striping falling off from everywhere he’s a terrible driver. We feared for our lives at a few points. Then I made the mistake of letting my keys fall out of my picked and he extorted me for money to let me have my keys back. STAY AWAY!!!!

Mr. Hunter, his wife and his daughter, rode a private shuttle (at no additional charge) with Alpenglow Adventures Train Tours on June 10, 2021 to the Georgetown Loop Railroad. He arrived to the train that we service safely and returned to his resort lodging safely. Upon return to his lodging, the driver made the announcement to the guests to look around and make sure that they gather up all of their belongings. Mr. Hunter then paid for the charges in full, but declined to give his driver any tip whatsoever, as a way to express his overall impression of the tour, saying that the entire journey was just a "con job." He was upset that we provided a full four-hour tour at a higher price than what he would have paid had he driven the hour's route to the train, purchased his own tickets, and driven the hour back. He seemed perhaps unaware that professional tour services will always be more expensive than just driving there yourself and totally ignored all of the extra ingredients that we added to the experience such as free root beer floats and a unique wild west surprise, plus free personalized photographs and a free custom video of his train ride. Then, Mr. Hunter called our offices at 8 pm that evening, when the tour van which had been previously utilized for his family was out on another tour, to report that his car keys were somehow criminally extracted from his pocket and that he demanded that we stop everything to return the keys to him. We informed him that the vehicle was over 150 miles away and that we would instead drop the keys off at the local police department in our home town, so that he could pick them up there and explain his situation to law enforcement. Dissatisfied with that alternative, Mr. Hunter demanded to have his keys delivered to him the next morning at 7:00 am, at our expense. I told him that if that was truly what he wanted, there would be a delivery fee to have a driver show up to our offices an hour early, and take the keys to his resort lodging, instead of Mr. Hunter picking them up at the police department at no charge. I gave him information on the free bus system that would help him do that. He said he understood and then came across as conciliatory, but was very argumentative and violent when the keys were driven to his resort hotel. And then Mr. Hunter began yelling about his perceived condition of the vehicle. These are brand new Ford Transits that we use and are in peak physical condition. I fear Mr. Hunter may be living in an alternate universe.

Joel was a fabulous adventure guide! Prompt, courteous, funny, and very knowledgeable. Our trek over Loveland Pass was one of the many highlights of out trip to Colorado! The Georgetown Loop RR and the silver mine exploration certainly exceeded our expectations! Finishing the trek in Georgetown with a little shopping and. root beer floats made for an excellent day. My group highly recommends Joel and Alpenglow!

We took the 6-hour train and silver mine tour. Joel, our guide, was knowledgeable and friendly. He took care of everything and added a lot of interesting sidelights. I highly recommend this tour!

Joel was great and knowledgeable. Gave us plenty of time and picked us up right from our airbnb. My Twin 4 year old and 2 year old enjoyed the train ride and ice creme in Georgetown. Some of the facts that Joel told us was very interesting. I would recommend this tour.

Our family of 4 wanted to ride the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Contacted Alpenglow 6 weeks in advance. We had 3 conversations by calling 970 468 7777.

We were assured that tickets would be available to ride the Parlor car from Silver Plume on July 21 at 10:00am. On that day we could have bought the tickets ourselves as they were available. Alpenglow personnel repeatedly assured us that they would take care of tickets and transportation.
The day before the trip I received a call that no Parlor car Ickes are available for our family. Different reasons were given: Railroad meeting, not enough vans, not enough drivers, etc. None was disclosed in the weeks between our conversations and this afternoon.
Lots of “I am sorry”, etc.
Do not trust this company!

What Mario K failed to mention was that we did not charge him a dime for a tour that he didn't take, that we offered alternative dates and told him that although the Parlor car was unavailable on July 21, we would be happy to give his family a ride in the coach section of the exact same train at a greatly reduced price. He would hear none of it and seemed to enjoy playing the role of a victim when he found that he couldn't make the tour happen precisely as he planned. Yes, there were quite a few "I'm sorry for the change of schedule", but there was no answer that I could provide that Mario K. was willing to understand. Since that date in 2018, over 12,000 people have trusted our company and had a great experience.

We were expecting a long train ride. What we got for the three-hour tour was a long one-hour drive to a scenic point for a photo opportunity we did not want before being taken to the train station in Georgetown. The train ride itself wasn't more than 45 min long at most. Then we were taken to an old time jail, and free ice creams in town. The tour guide claims he was clear about the tour over the phone and on the website. He did mention the free ice creams and what he called a "western surprise" (the jail), but the impression given was that these were activities done along the train tour.

Really ironic as the title of the 3-hr tour on the website is: 3hr G-Loop Train Only Tour! Here is their write-up:

Alpenglow Adventures is introducing the 3hr G-Loop Train Only Tour! If your time and budget is somewhat limited, we can still make the best outdoor adventure in the Rockies part of your agenda! In a compact three-hour timeframe, your family can get direct door-to-door van service, take a round-trip ride on the train and, sure enough, still manage to stop in downtown Georgetown long enough to slurp those delicious ice cream cones!

By the way, don't assume the "door-to-door van service" is part of the package. He wanted to charge us an outrageous $25 per person to pick us up from our hotel which was just 30 min away, even though we were a big group.

The train ride itself was lovely. Wish I had known we could buy tickets directly from the Georgetown Train Station.

This group wanted to be picked up at their hotel in Vail, Colorado, which is thirty minutes west of our home town of Frisco. The Georgetown Loop Railroad is 30 minutes east of Frisco. For Alpenglow Adventures Tours to do pick-ups in Vail and other points west in Eagle County, we have to cross over Vail Pass (elevation: 10,662 feet above sea level) four times. That means we would drive 30 minutes extra to pick them up, 30 minutes to take them over the pass and through Frisco to the train, 30 minutes back past Frisco for the return to Vail and 30 additional minutes back to Frisco to conclude the journey. The additional cost per person, per mile comes down to an "outrageous" $0.25 per mile. The fuel and driver time expense warrants an additional per person charge, which these Vail, Colorado customers felt was unnecessary, since they were a big group. A big group that somehow failed to mention that they received a 25% group discount off of the standard fare. Door-to-door service with Alpenglow Adventures Train Tours IS included throughout Summit County, which is Breckenridge, Frisco, Dillon, Silverthorne, Keystone and Copper Mountain. And the train ride is an hour and fifteen minutes in duration. Bottom line: Please don't expect something for nothing.

If you want to do the train ride do not use these people? Go to the train station and pay $29. Alpenglow charge $80 and to add insult to injury charge sales tax on top. All you get for that is the drive to the train station that you could do your self and an ice cream. It could be reasonably classified as a rip off

If you want to drive yourselves, then you don't need a professional tour service. You don't need the extras (the ice cream was the last bonus in a long line of additional favors), you don't need to experience the hidden scenic vistas and the private access to the history of an old frontier town. You don't need the unique thank-you gifts at the end of the tour. And you certainly don't need the free digital photos and custom video sent to you gratis as part of the package. Door-to-door service... don't need that. Complimentary sunscreen and water bottles to stay well hydrated? Don't need that, either! Please don't get ripped-off by a tour service that's only been in business for 27 years. Spend your money as you see fit, but don't criticize quality under the guise of frugality.
