Great way to learn about Colorado history
Aug 2021
First time here, best I can recall. Free parking in lot. Pay admission fee indoors and then walk around, using the map. Best to go in order on the map, and that way you can read a bit, follow the numbered rocks, etc. Some of the buildings are very uneven, and there are stairs, rocks, etc- so wear sturdy shoes (no flip-flops). Watch your step as you enter and leave buildings. Also suggest a hat for the sun and perhaps a water bottle. We spent about 2.5 hours here. Be sure to watch the little movie to help orient you. Good way to enjoy Fairplay and learn about how life was back in the days of early mining and pioneers in Colorado. Cute kitties in the gift shop. Give Thelma and Louise a bit of love. Recommend this attraction, though not for babies/toddlers.

Great Time!
Aug 2021 • Family
We visited South Park City Museum during our recent visit to Breckenridge. Our travel dates council see with the Living History Days event. During the event, there were people in historical costumes, horseback rides, a shootout, and many demos. We tried to find information on the event prior to our arrival but all that was available were dates. I would recommend that this group publish an event itinerary online because I think it would help boost their attendance. We had a great visit and it was worth the admission fee!

Surprisingly great!
Jul 2021 • Family
We expected this place to be just ok, but it turned out to be really great! The whole tour was so interesting and had so many different kinds of buildings, structures and exhibits. The best part was that it all was so HANDS ON. Oftentimes, you have to stand behind the stanchions at these types of places and look from afar, but here you could walk inside and touch so many things. It made you feel like you stepped back in time. You could even go inside the train caboose! We spent way longer here than we planned. lol Great way to spend a day in Fairplay. Oh, and we were able to bring our dog, which was an added plus since he was traveling with us!

The Ghosts of Miners and Burros
Jul 2021
All 42 structures are authentic, not like some of the rebuilt places I’ve seen all over California. This is good and real, plenty of historical artifacts as well (i.e. the mercantile has groceries and other items from the old times, the printing shop has presses, papers, etc.). It would be nice if there were some docents around, but apparently they could not round up volunteers for this job. Do not miss the Monument to Prunes, a Burro (but I am not spoiling it for you, you’ll have to discover Pruno on your own).

A must see in Fairplay
Jun 2021
What a wonderful museum for adults and children alike. Amazing western history of the late 1800's for Fairplay, Alma and the surrounding area. Be sure to check out the artifacts and amazing wonders in each building.

Top 5 Museum
Jun 2021
Incredible museum, our group of 4 all agreed this was one of the top 5 museums we ever visited! Authentic buildings and furnishings. We planned on one hour but spent more than 3 hours... so much to see. It truly takes you back to the mid-1800's. Suitable for all ages. Incredible value for only $10/person. Unless you hate history, you will not be disappointed!

A whole lot of history
Jul 2020
There is a lot of history in this museum! So many buildings and things to look at. We went with a large group of people from 9-60+ years old and had a good time going through all of the different areas. Although the kids enjoyed it and had fun, they were definitely done after a quick go through, where I think most of the adults would have liked a little more time to read everything. If you are a history buff, or just looking for an activity to do in the Fairplay area this museum is definitely worth a visit.

Great "old west" town to see
Oct 2020 • Family
We and our two small children really enjoyed the museum. There were 44 buildings and you get to go in all of them. Saloon, dr offices, blacksmith, etc. Very interesting and very well preserved. Also, what a great bargain. $10 for adults, and $5 for kids.

Great museum
Oct 2020 • Family
This place is fun for the whole family. My husband and I enjoyed the history while our toddler loved exploring the old buildings and “driving” the train. Even our dog had a good day exploring.
