This place was close to our rental & we got a gift card from our hosts. We went early on a weeknight & got the last parking space, and stood in a very long line for upscale burgers. It started to pour down rain, so one of us grabbed a two-top inside & waited. It was 45 minutes after arrival before we had food.. We made the mistake of ordering chips, that we later watched just poured out a a bag, so would not recommend ordering those. Burgers & beer were fine, but the bill was 50 bucks for two, so not a good value, especially as it really has only counter service, and is a mad house, so would not return.

Farm to Table restaurants are thriving and sought after. However, the James Ranch has taken it a step further by being a "Table ON the Farm" dining experience. Enjoy local sustainably grown and consciously produced food products from greens to beef expertly prepared ON the Farm. The new building is step up from picnic tables on the grass and NOW offers dining all winter long! (See website for days/hours).
The scenery on the ranch says it all....open space, grass, mountains, fresh air and sunshine is the way to produce food. Outdoor dining available whenever the weather suits you.
I had the delish squash veggie "burger", my friends had the burgers made with beef grown and raised on the ranch. The grocery/gift shop offers seasonal organic veggies, James Ranch beef and James Ranch cheeses, eggs and a variety of local food products and gifts.
This is an ultimate Durango dining excursion.

The setting is a newly constructed wood beam restaurant and store with indoor and outdoor seating with views of the mountains. It’s a nice drive out jog town ans one can continue a little and turn around by the Purgatory ski resort. Burgers are the main fare with all the expected sides. Interestingly, the non alcoholic coconut and other drinks were amazing. We would return in heartbeat.

I ordered the mushroom burger which was pretty good, you could taste the fresh meat. I was shocked at the price, over $15 for a burger (no fries, pickles, onion, etc) just meat and some mushrooms. The scenery was awesome but not sure the food was with the price.

We love James Ranch and visit it multiple times whenever we spend time in Durango. Burgers are great and the outdoor seating looking over the ranch to the mountains cannot be beat. But since they opened their new facility, service is, well, confused. Each time we went last month, either our order was not correct, or an order before ours was not correct (so we could not pick up our order or drinks until they fixed that one).
Don't pass up a chance to pick up some good local veggies, meats and ice cream at the market!

This place was highly
recommended by a friend. It is a
self serve place and it's very
expensive. They said they cook
their burgers pink throughout.
Pink is fine..raw "Red" ground
beef is not. It's over $15 for a
burger that doesn't even include a
side. In addition, we asked for
some extra sauce and after
spending $60 for 2 beers, 2
burgers, and 1 fry…they wanted to
charge me for some more sauce.
Way over priced especially when
you have to order and do a pick up
window. SO..., Disappointed. Never again!!!!!!

This place is a great setting for lunch. They have a great market with local sourced meats and many other things.
We went for lunch. I had a burger with a salad and hibiscus tea. Very good! My family, also, had a burger, but did not care for the natural colas. “At all.” My husband said he thought it was a bit pricey and a couple we met on the train felt the same way the day before. I have to say that the setting is worth the price.

I can't recommend this place enough. There is good reason they are rated best burgers in the Durango area. This meat comes from some happy cows. And the outdoor picnic tables spread out around the grounds are lovely. The view is fantastic. The beer selection (we had beer from the Ska brewing Co) was great. Our grandson loved petting the goats and running around. You order and pick up at window. They also have a nice market. Fresh farm to table food - fabulous fries too.

Perfect summer eats in a pandemic! Burgers are substantial & delectable set off by slaw & fingerling potatoes and backed up by a glass of cider or wine or plain (& free) water.
On a picnic table on the lawn in the shade with a view of happy cows.
Lucky locals can eat here all summer but tourists should make it a lunch destination!

We had a family of eight there this evening. We all ordered burgers. My son had the green chili burger and he enjoyed it. We ordered the signature burger and I wouldn't recommend it. It was so salty that it overpowered the whole burger. All if us had the fries and they were overcooked, burnt and very tasteless. I will probably give them one more chance but I'll definitely not have that burger again!

Hello Daryl, Darn that's hard to hear that your burger was over seasoned! That is not the fault of that specialty burger, that is the fault of our culinary team. We absolutely need to comp you that meal as well as the fries. We are known for our fries, so again, it's a bummer that they were overcooked! Please email me directly at harvestgrill@jamesranch.net so I can arrange to get you a gift card to put towards your next meal. I appreciate your feedback so we can continue to improve our consistency in providing an excellent meal and live up to our high standards.
