About
Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa is located in the Animas Valley just north of downtown Durango Colorado and 15 minutes south of Purgatory Ski Resort. The natural hot springs have a rich history dating back a millennium to the Ancient Puebloan that lived in this region. Beginning in the 18th century, the native Ute Tribe and other Native American tribes utilized the healing waters they considered sacred. Over the years, the hot springs has been the location for multiple grand hotels and later as a dude ranch, gambling hall, and entertainment center that hosted celebrities and Hollywood stars in the 1950s. The one constant from the past to present is the natural hot mineral springs and its reputation as a mystical healing place and source of wellness. Much of this mystique comes from the rare characteristics of the hot springs water with its balanced blend of minerals. The remarkable natural water from the hot springs has no Sulphur odor and embraces your soul.

On our visit to Durango, I was excited to find the Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa. A new name and major renovation of the Trimble Hot Springs. My husband and I went on a Thursday afternoon for the “soak.” We were impressed with the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Entering the hot springs area one side is adults only (must be over 16) and the other welcomes families. Looking around to get acclimated we notice there are several natural hot mineral springs pools. The pools are somewhat hidden on a hillside providing some privacy. Trees on the hillside offer some shade, too. Each pool is named and a sign has the temperature of that pool. Taking the steps up to the closest adult pool the sign read 108 degrees. Too hot for us. We start at the 100 degree pool and then go from pool to pool eventually enjoying 108 degrees. A super challenge is the pool that is divided with one side 107 degree and the other side 60 degrees. Get hot and then jump (plunge) into the cold. Awesome! Once in the cold pool it is comfortable. Pools are different sizes small to large. There are plenty of areas for just relaxing or sunbathing. The Family area has pools and activities to delight kids. It also has a long pool. Staff consistently monitor the pool temperatures and change signage, accordingly. There are showers for afterwards. Bring your own towel or purchase one. Lockers are available for rent, as needed. Ours was really relaxing and refreshing visit.
Note: There are more pools and retreat areas under construction.

I had numerous difficulties trying to book this online, on checking my bank as the website kept telling me my card was declined, it showed that the payment had been taken the 4 or 5 times that I had tried. I tried from my phone and laptop with various issues. In the end I called to book. I was only charged for the correct amount, but this wasn't a great start.

The website said you needed to bring your own towel, but really you need 2 towels or a robe and towel or you would be sitting on a wet towel. As I was staying at an airbnb I couldn't really bring these items with me so had to buy them.

You are allowed to take your own water in, but nothing else, or buy it from them, however they do give access to the water fountain.

You have to PAY for a locker, its not refundable !!!! I have never been ANYWHERE where you have to actually pay to keep your things secure, you have to use the lockers or leave your things on the nearest table to you when you are in the pools. Absolute cheek.

The changing room is tiny, 2 cubicles and room for maybe 3 others and even then you're very close to each other. 2 or 3 showers which had a lot of hair and scum in them, the floor wasn't particularly clean either.

The pools themselves are quite nice, the temps vary but a couple of degrees so its not that obvious when you move from pool to pool. As I was there at 14.00 on a Tuesday , it was quite empty which was a definite bonus.

This was a disappointing experience, and not even a particularly cheap one at that.

Although the springs were pleasant, it feels a bit overpriced, especially compared to Ojo Caliente or 10,000 waves. The uneven stones and partially finished construction won't last forever, but the overpriced lockers were frustrating. In addition, at least during our visit, there seemed to be a lot of heavy drinkers that ultimately caused my family a lot of stress, and made it far less family friendly than advertised. If you don't bring children and come at a less crowded time, your experience might be greatly improved.

With the amount of hype over the new construction I think I just expected more. The pools were different shapes and in different locations but all around the same temperature. The concrete work appeared to be crumbling around the edges and there was grit in the bottom of some pools that felt like crumbled concrete. Supposedly there are minerals in the water but it seemed pretty clear to me and not like water appeared before when it was concentrated to just one pool.
The stairs had framing and if you examine the sides the concrete appears to be eroding in some areas leaving gaps.
I avoided the salt water pool because it was full of kids who were running around without parents nearby despite the recent tragedy. I didn’t even bring the younger members of my family because I was so worried.
I did bring a member of my family who has a medical condition. We were hoping soaking and relaxing in a mineral pool would help her feel better. It did at first until an off duty member of their staff took issue with my boyfriend. I don’t know if the kid had been drinking but he yelled at us from sidewalk and when I asked him why he said he felt we were being disrespectful toward him. When I went inside to buy an overpriced towel and make a complaint he decided to confront my family a second time and ask why I “aggressively” confronted him about yelling at us. The people on duty said they would talk with him. Their response to abuse from a staff member to paying guests is “I will talk with him.” That was after trying to pretend they didn’t know who I was talking about and trying to tell me only two of them were on duty.
Which brings up a good point. Why were only two staff members on duty and one was on desk and one was just taking pool temperatures. Who was enforcing the “keep kids under seven within arms reach” rule? No one.
I didn’t try the food trucks but it was while I was directing my boyfriend to where my wallet was located that the kid took issue with us. I would have bought at least 5 overpriced drinks.
It works out to $15 dollars an hour to soak there and it’s just not worth it. It’s very overdone with no substance. They are most likely appealing to visitors and not repeat customers.

We visited here in mid-September for a soak and a massage. I highly recommend both the hot springs and the spa. We arrived just before 10am, got changed and hit the hot springs. They have many different size, shape and temperatures to choose from as well as cooler tubs to alternate with. We were here mid-week during the school year, so only one family with children was there. They do have a family area with a larger pool and an adults only area. People seemed to be aware of social distancing and didn’t crowd the pools/tubs. Someone walked around and checked the temps of the tubs often. This is a newer venue so there is still construction and landscaping going on, but it wasn’t bothersome.

The 80 minute massage we each had was amazing. The therapists were professional and listened to what we needed. Because of Covid restrictions we were not able to have a couples massage, hopefully they can start doing those again.

One really nice thing was the ability to get a glass of wine (bottle, actually) to enjoy after our soaks and before the massages. They are building a deck area that will serve food and alcohol that will be for members only, I believe. Sitting out under the stars with a glass of wine after a mineral springs soak is something I will look forward to the next trip to Durango.

we love this place for a relaxing few hours after outdoor adventures. There is minimal food service on Mondays though and outside snacks are not allowed. this made it difficult to spend the afternoon there with 2 small kids. the snack bar was out of almost all snacks besides chips and 1 sandwich, by 11:30 am. and that was all the food they would have for the rest of the day. Make sure you eat well before going on a Monday. you must bring your own towels also. Otherwise, every time we have visited, it has been wonderful.

The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because of their current food truck. Elevated Eats. Absolutely horrible service and we spent an entire hour of our time waiting for our food only to be yelled at by the kid working
We won’t go back until they’ve found a better option.

The resort requests on line booking using the BOOK NOW button on the website. I entered all the details including 3 digit security code, but was unable to obtain a confirmation of booking
When contacting the resort they confirmed no booking had been made although it showed I had registered, as required by the terns and conditions.
No satisfactory explanation was given.
It seems that Durango Hot Springs only recognises American addresses, ( in respect of its website, i can’t speak for whether Canadian addresses are permitted).
That is an inadequate booking system making the Hot Springs difficult to use or enter.
The Springs discourage users arriving without a booking.
So in terms of customer care or friendliness,
Durango Hot Springs comes across as could n’t care less if you are foreigners;
This seems to be a club for Flag waving Americans preferred.

Our whole family enjoyed Durango Hot Springs. We loved that there were separate soaking areas for adults and for families. We didn’t feel like our kids playing in the warm water was disturbing other individuals trying to relax. We felt that the price for our admission was very reasonable given all of the various hot tubs and pools. Beautiful setting and clean.

Meticulously maintained landscaping and fastidious pools and grounds. Pool temperatures are well-marked and pools are well-maintained. Filters constantly being cleaned by staff. Grounds are gorgeous. Staff is so competent and friendly. Lockers are so easy to use and locker-restrooms are clean and bright. Walkways are exquisite travertine that is heated from underneath. Highly recommend!
