Reading the reviews here we gather there is a Rim Trail hike and a scenic drive called the Campus Loop. We did the loop following Rim Drive which encircles the Fort Lewis College campus. There are nice views of Durango and surrounding mountains. You can also visit the attractive Fort Lewis College campus.

We like to drive around the towns we visit, so we drove up to the college. Has great views of the town, the train coming in and watched a storm come in.

This is a short loop, easy drive which has a pullout for looking over Durango and the entire region. When the sun is out, expect some beautiful long view pictures with downtown immediately below you. This was also recommended by the Tourist Info Center. Takes about half an hour for viewing, or a lot less just driving past the overlook.

took a ride up to the campus and loved the area. Be aware of whats around you. We saw two year old bear running along the hill.

This is a spot I recommend when you are in the area. Might take 30 minutes of your time. You get a nice view of downtown and area. Get some good pics ( our panoramic turned out nice). Walk around a little and that is about it.

If you haven't already done a lot of walking then this trail offers a nice view of downtown and is good for a morning or evening stroll.

If I could go back in time to do college all over again, this would be my choice. It's gorgeous up here and you can see forever. Love it!

We were there in January so the trails were snow covered, though they were packed down in areas at the top, allowing you to walk around and catch some great views. I would check this out, even if you drive. However, when there is no snow, hike!
