The Durango Silverton Train ride has got to be one of the most scenic rides in America. We went September 13, 2006. The leaves were stating to turn, the scenery was unbelievable, the train followed the Animas river between mountains 14,000 ft high. The steam...More

We had a great experience riding this train in August. Our 4 year old loves trains, & was totally into everything. I agree that a one way trip is enough. We rode back to Durango on a bus that took us for an afternoon rafting...More

Our family hated this train trip. It was too long (3.5 hours each way) and on top of that, the train broke down. We were 2 hours late getting into Silverton. It took us more than 5.5 hours to get to Silverton. The food on...More

When creating our itinerary for our Arizona-New Mexico-Colorado-Wyoming "road trip" the Trip on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad was a "must do" (based on comments by friends of ours).. We were certainly not disappointed ! - We purchased the tickets on-line, about 2...More

The train was unbelievable. Better than I expected. The views are incredible. TIP: Ride the train (on the right side) to Silverton and the bus back. Best way to go. You board in Durango and ride about 20 or so minutes close to town before...More

My family took a ride on the Durango-Silverton Train in June 2006. It was great except for the fact the cinders from the train and the cottonwood trees upset my allergies tremendously. I thought I was getting a cold, but it all cleared up after...More

The train ride was great. My granddaughter really enjoyed it. And the views! I agree with some of the other reviews, ride to Silverton on the train and take the narrated bus ride back. You'll learn alot about the area. Also, if you plan to...More

This is a "Can't Miss" when in Durango. We chose to ride in the renovated Parlor Car. The Service we received rates a A+, thanks to Sara, our attendant. The trip itself is a little pricey, but worth every penny. We were gone over 9...More

We rode the D&SNGRR round trip from Durango to Silverton. It was a fantastic ride. We were in a covered car and even then we found soot on us after the ride. In Silverton we ate at Natalia's. It was so-so--we had the buffet. The...More

Which train trip? (5 Replies)
We would like to ride on one of the railroads but not sure which one to choose - Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad or Cumbres & Toltec Railroad. Which would you recommend we choose? And why? Thanks

We went last year (2010) on Durango/Silverton train. In fact we took the bus from Durango to Silverton, so we could see the different view than the train offers, once in Silverton we had a jeep tour of the back roads. Really nice. Then the train back to Durango. We really enjoyed the whole overall trip. Really beautiful views overall. We went in late September so the trees were turning which added to the beauty. It was well worth the time and money. Haven't been on the other train, yet, but...More
