Unfortunately, we were not able to actually go on the horseback adventure due to COVID19 restrictions. From the moment we booked the excursion until the morning of when it was determined that the trip had to be cancelled, we received updated communications and calls from Randy to let us know the current update. Even though the original trip couldn't happen, Randy still invited us out to the ranch so our kids could pet the horses and see the ranch. I would go back 100% to take the actual trail ride. The area is beautiful, and the ranch is amazing. (my refund was also processed in a timely manner, which is a big deal with all the cancellations happening in the travel industry!) Thank you for your kindness and hospitality Randy!

My family booked a one hour trail ride with Over the Hill Outfitters. We arrived at the stables early and our guide, Michelle, was waiting with all the horses selected and ready to ride. Michelle was very personable and gave us information about the ranch and local points of interest. She even provided me a website that had fixed camera images of major Colorado highways. A winter storm was to hit the area the next day, and I was concerned about driving conditions.
We went on the brief but spectacular ride on a large farm area that took us through pastures, up and down hillsides, and across creeks. It was good experience for novice riders to handle the horses on uneven terrain. Michelle provided great instructions at every juncture to be sure we we comfortable.
The views from high on the ridge were wonderful as we could look back to the south across the valley where the ranch was located. I would highly recommend this for novice riders who want to experience Colorado trail riding. Thanks to Michelle and the whole team from Over the Hill Outfitters for providing such a great experience. Next visit we will book the two hour ride!

I contacted Over The Hill Outfitter about a over night trip for my wife and I . They worked with me and made it happen. We went on a two day trip and really enjoyed it, they provided us with a chef and camp at 11200 feet that was in a beautiful location. we had a great trip and saw beautiful country . The horses was very well trained and was a pleasure to ride , I would rate this company a 20 out of a 10 . If you are looking for a horseback trip please check them out.

We chose Over the Hill because it was close to downtown Durango. The facilities were nice and check-in easy. We had wanted the more advanced 3 hour ride but it was not available. We were hoping the two hour ride would be a bit more advanced than a "nose to butt trail" trail ride but that was not the case. The ride was SO slow and we were bored. The guide talked only to the first person behind her - we could not hear a word she said. There were no opportunities along the ride for group photos - she did that when we returned to the stable. UInless you are a complete novice I would recommend a different ride.

Three of us including a total beginner to riding were guided by Natalie and Haley for a two hour ranch tour. The horses were amazing and were suited to the varied terrain - strong, careful with the rider, and very sure footed. Try these guides and Over the Hill’s offerings; it’ll be highly worthwhile.

The Fall Colors Trip was magnificent. The young group of people we traveled out into the woods with us were well prepared and took good care of us. It was a short adventure I will never forget and hopefully be able to do again with the rest of my family. Would advise this for anyone who enjoys being outside.

We had a fantastic horse pack trip with OTH Outfitters. The wranglers, Rob and Josh, were top notch. Very helpful and informative and all with a sense of humor. The food that Jonathon prepared was top notch especially when you consider the location! This is a roughing it type of trip in the back country of the San Juan Mountain but the crew made it seem like anything but a roughing it adventure. We had a novice rider with us and they managed the trek with only some minor trepidations. If you think you are capable to handle the wilderness and enjoy the sites you won't see from a car window or day hike then I would highly recommend this adventure. You do need a relative level of physical fitness as the base camp is at 10500ft with day rides to 11700ft. If you expect Starbucks or expresso then you might be a reach for you, but if you do decide to make this trip it will be a experience that you won't forget. One of the benefits of this trip was that there is no cell signals and it was the best way to get those that have a device in their hand constantly to engage in actual personal conversation!

Did the two hour tour, everyone had a bit of riding experience so we did a brief overview and then set off. Amanda was awesome, the trails were great and we even bore the brunt of a couple afternoon thunder showers that came through the area. Despite the rain and even a bit of hail, I never felt out of control or nervous, the instructions provided were clear and the horses were awesome, will absolutely return in the future.
