McPhee is a huge reservoir with fingers and coves that are fascinating to explore. Every turn exposes beautiful shoreline.
We rented a pontoon boat from Doc's Marina and spent 4 wonderful hours cruising and tubing.
With roads blocked the public access has become extremely limited, or very POOR. Be prepared to walk many hundreds of yards to go fishing or picnic on the beach at this lake. We tried many access points but found none available for a hundred yard...More
A really beautiful area. Water is so clear and pretty although the water levels are quite low. Took a little bit for my dog to manage to get down to the water to leap in.
Pretty hot and exposed but peaceful.
This is a great place in Montezuma County to fish and recreate. Recently the area lakes have been closed to motorized boats so that they can try and prevent contaminating the lakes with zebra mussels. They do have a check in station for boats at...More
I’ve been going to this lake since I was 3 years old. Amazing fishing, amazing recreation opportunity, amazing everything. I’ve seen a few negative posts on here about it having low water, or having a lot of algae, but honestly, what could be done to...More
this reservoir is the 2nd largest body of water in CO. great palce to spend a summer morning exploring all the nooks and crannies. Several different launching sites, check out the map avaiable from Dolores CofC. Wind sometimes comes up in afternoon.
Love this reservoir, my in laws came to visit and stood on the campground, not packed like the other campground horror stories. I come to visit often, I think some even do paddle board yoga out here, very calm and relaxing, never crowded... unless theres...More

Definitely not on the reservoir, one arm of the reservoir where the Delores river empties there are a few homes up high on the cliffs. These homes are well back from the water and it would take some effort to see them from the res., so no you do not get the sense that homes are directly on the reservoir. This is not like Horsetooth res. where you have homes all around the water and very visible. McPhee res. does have another two campgrounds one on the cliffs which I described, and one on the lake, very sparse vegetation and less amenities so you are able to see campers on this part of the reservoir.

Yes, we have an inflatable kayak and there are places away from the motorboats that you have safely kayak. One area we liked and you will find kayaks is close to the town of Delores. There is a county road that the local use to drive down to launch their Kayaks. This country road is just off 184 west (which is off 145).
