Italian neoRenaissance at its Denver’s best. 1911 tower was inspired by the famous Campanella of the Venice St Marco’s square and constructed as a part of the department store complex. Today it is a surprising landmark of the 16th Street Mall.

This is a landmark if you are cruising through the 16th street mall. It is distinctive and rises above the other buildings. It also provides for some good pictures of you want something of architectural interest.

I thought I was going to see an amazing building when I started walking to see this place, but when I turned the corner...it was simply a beautiful tower! I was not disappointed in the least. It was definitely worth seeing. The lines on this tower are fine work. I loved that the history of this tower is available and it was an interesting read. The tallest building west of the Mississippi when it was built! Visit this tower.

Completed in 1912, the Daniels and Fisher Tower was originally a centerpiece department store and the highest building west of the Mississippi River when it was first built. It is 372' tall. The design was inspired by the Campanile in Saint Mark's Square in Venice. It's on the National Registry of Historic Places since 1969 and is located prominently on the 16th Street pedestrian mall in Denver. There is an elevator for the first 17 floors which are occupied by permanent residents. The remaining 4 floors are used to host weddings, other events and the clock which was designed by Seth Thomas who also designed the clock in Grand Central Terminal. There is an observation deck which gives you a 360 degree view of Denver. The upper rooms are uniquely designed but small. The wrought iron stairs are which take you from the 17th to the 20th floor are another feature. The 21rst floor spiral staircase is inaccessible to tourists. Public tours are available at $15. If you go online there is a virtual tour of the 17th-21rst floors but does not give you the experience of seeing the clock or walking out onto the observation deck which is a grand view. The basement is occupied by "Zannies Clock Tower Cabaret".

Tours of the tower are by reservation only, strongly suggest keeping your eye out for announcements about available dates. We got to go up and see the workings of the original clock in the top of the tower!

While I wouldn't call the May D& F tower a destination in itself, it's certainly worth a gander as you tour downtown. This is the last remnant of the famed department store and an elegant office building as well as the home of a wonderful night club. Look up to admire the clock tower. Walk in to admire the entry. That's all I know about, but do that. It's worth your time and attention.

If you're on the 16th Street Mall, definitely check out the D&F Tower. It was modeled after St. Mark's Campanile in Venice, and is one of my favorite buildings in Denver. Unfortunately you can't go up to the top, but be sure to check out the lobby and consider taking in a show at Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret in the basement.

The Daniels and Fisher Tower is an architectural landmark located on the 16th Street Mall. Though it is dwarfed by new construction it still stands proud reflecting Denver's past. It still remains a centerpiece with such events as the fireworks on New Year's Eve. In the basement Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret.

Daniels & Fisher Tower is a historic landmark, built in 1911 as part of the Daniels & Fisher department store. Unlike the less fortunate store, the D&F Tower was spared the wrecking ball. Paid tours of the clock tower are available, but require advance planning. Even without a tour, the tower is worth visiting. The exterior is beautiful and nicely restored. It is beautifully lit after dark. In the main floor lobby there is an interesting and informative display providing the history of the tower from construction through to the present day. Convenient location on the 16th Street Mall.
