This is a great place to walk around the lake or bike around it on paved nice pathways. It was not too crowded when we visited (twice) while in town...but watch out for duck and geese messes. We were never afraid but there were some people hanging around that did not look like they were there for the exercise or to enjoy the park beauty!

One of the nicest in the city parks. Sorry there will be NO dragon boat race this year. Lots of ducks, geese and other birds. Bike ride or walk with friends and family. If you have a small boat you can launch here. Do not know the specifics on that.

I live 15 mins away. Ugly buildings, expensive restaurants. Yet another Denver landmark ruined by overdevelopment. The lake is crowded with walkers, dogs and bikes. Granted the lake is pretty gross - don't get in the water - its just grieves me to see the development of a natural area turned into...I don't even know what to call it...gengification? (I can't spell).

Over the last decade, I've run or attended other people's runs in this area. It's a nice setting for things like this and for walking pets around the area, but don't be fooled into thinking it's safe. Take something to protect yourself if you're alone.

Lets see? No shade, the lake is filled with green algae, dogs get sick with giardia when they swim. Still very hoody, and not safe t night. There are to many nice safe, and clean parks. Bypass

This is a great park near the Denver, Highlands neighborhood and close to downtown. There are boats and water skiing in the summer. Nice paved trail the circumnavigates the lake. Great for running and biking! A must see on any trip to Denver!

Joined my daughter and her friend for a beautiful 2 and 1/2 mile walk along the lake. Plenty of birds and small critters to see. Great Place to walk the dog, visit with friends and get your steps in. Kitty corner from the Lakeside neighborhood. Easy and plentiful parking. Walk to the Lakeside Inn for great pizza then walk it off around the lake!

I find the lake very soothing.
It is amazingly large for being INSIDE the city limits.
And, where else can you water ski in Denver. Playing on your WII does not count.
Friendly people.
Cute ducks. I hate the geese.
I like it.

Nice park for active lifestyle and for wide open space to get of packed city life. The lake could use some cleanup, especially close to the shore. Lots of trash. Nice sidewalk path around the perimeter of the lake, there is a playground area. There is a beach area, but no swimming is allowed. That area of the lake had a toxic algae present when we visited with multiple signs posted about the dangers to humans.

Stayed at an Airbnb right across the street from the park. Walking the paths at sunrise is really nice and peaceful.

Is there a place on the lake to rent a kayak or paddle boat, etc? I read that you can rent from REI, but if we rent from REI, do you have to have a vehicle to transport it there?
Written August 18, 2019
You can not rent paddle boats or kayaks at Sloan's. If you rent from REI, you'd need a vehicle to transport the boat. It's close to three miles from REI to Sloan's. Good luck and have fun!

No camping, but there is shopping and restaurants across the street!
