It was snowing in Denver, but we received a warm welcome in the American Museum of Western Art. The audio that goes with the exhibition is a must, and is particularly well done. We liked the combination of the display of staged aspects of the...More

Hard to find. The guy at the front desk was unfriendly/unhelpful. The collection was okay but the lighting was terrible; the light was very bright and reflected on a lot of the pieces. Many pieces were too close to each other. Clunky set-up. There was...More

Truly wonderful collection in a building with a chequered history. Spent hours looking around. Front room on each level is set up as a Victorian parlour and gives a great atmosphere. The elevator alone is a museum piece. No photography is allowed.

The entrance in the basement is quite discreet (we thought it was closed) but once inside one is met by a wholly outstanding collection of western art and an excellent audio guide which usefully talks to a group of pictures rather individual paintings. This is...More

I have been to several western art shows and museums and none can compare to this collection. The museum houses the Anschutz collection, which is an exceptional private collection. The paintings are wonderful and the audio is outstanding. Whether you know nothing about western art...More

The collection of art is wonderful and helps to create a sense of the history of the American West. It is chock full of pieces from the last 300 years. I enjoyed my self-guided tour, and the information in the audio tour is very helpful....More

What a wonderful find! Our docent was Sally that gave an informative tour of the museum containing pieces from the early 1800’s to current times interpreting the settling of the West. Interesting that the art is hung European style, but it is a small museum....More
