About
Home to the world’s most intact public collection of any major artist, the Clyfford Still Museum offers nine beautiful galleries of Still’s art, historic photos, objects and letters from the Clyfford Still Archives, interactive features, a pair of tranquil outdoor terraces, views into storage and conservation areas, a hands-on art creation studio, shopping, exciting programs and events, and more. The Museum allows visitors the unique experience to understand the legacy of Clyfford Still, an artist whose life has been shrouded in mystery and the bulk of whose work has been hidden from public view for decades. He had a unique artistic vision and was unwilling to compromise it for money or recognition. As he evolved as an artist, Still’s works transitioned from outdoor scenes, people, and machinery to more abstract shapes, colors, and lines to express an idea or feeling. The collection represents 95% of the artist’s lifetime output, includes approximately 3,125 works.

Cool art museum
Sep 2019
I was little surprised when my brother's family opted for this museum with their small kids, but it was great! There is an introductory video on the main floor and then you can explore all the art. The Clifford Still estate chose Denver to house his entire collection, which was a definite boon. After perusing the art, we spent quite a long time in the hands-on room where there are lots of materials to create your own art. I still have some of the great things my nephews and sister-in-law made.

Maybe my favorite art museum in Denver
Mar 2020
Enjoyable museum showcasing Clyfford Still's work. It was very interesting to see his pieces in roughly chronological order, showing his changing style. I'm not sure I've ever seen it so thoroughly done at any museum for any artist. This may have been my favorite of the art museums I visited in Denver (of at least 4 total). I believe they also rotate the pieces on display, so if I lived in Denver, I might visit a few times a year.

Master of abstract expressionism

What a museum. As his paintings are not found in other museums this really is the place. Didn’t expect to find abstract expressionism in Denver. Must see for those interested in modern art.

Great museum!!

Love the idea of a museum housing an artist’s entire work throughout their creative journey. You can therefore really appreciate the growth of Still as an artist and his artistry. The building is also very beautiful with a ceiling that allows natural light to filter through.

A great museum focused on a single artist

Dropped into this museum and was VERY pleasantly surprised! ONLY works by Clyfford Still are on exhibition - which allowed me to really see and experience his artistic evolution. Would recommend.

An interesting museum of modern art
Dec 2019
located just behind the DAM is the Clyfford Still Museum. His art is Abstract Expressionism and fits in well with Mark Rothko and Robert Motherwell. His work was unknown to me until this visit.

Very beautiful building. The art displays and background material on Still’s life are very thoughtful and give an additional dimension to the amazing works of art.

A rarity
Feb 2019
This museum is worth the trip for people who don't know who Clifford Still for two reasons a) the museum galleries are all dedicated to his works, the collection is rotated frequently but the entirety of his collection is housed in the building or nearby so you can see an amazing variety of a focus on a certain period or theme. Outside of a private gallery, it's virtually unheard of for a public museum to show one artist all the time. b) You'll realize that you do know Clifford Still, you've seen his work or you'll notice his influence on modern art immediately. And that's cool. What I like most about the place, however, is the volume of letters, notes, drafts and empherema that accompanied the collection when the widow agreed to give it to Denver (the story behind the competition for the estate and Denver's win was well covered in the media). It's mostly a stop for the art lover and Denver locals so I've never seen it crowded. Locals - don't be a chump this is what the monthly free admission day was built for.

Great small museum
Jun 2019 • Friends
This is a great, small museum exclusively showing the work of Clyfford Still, a leading American abstract expressionist painter. He was quite the individual, and apparently didn't believe in selling his work. The museum owns 95% of his work. Through the exhibits, you can see how his style evolved and how he was influenced by other artists. The museum is not too large so you can easily do the whole museum and not be tired. We enjoyed this museum very much.
