- Hayley HManchester, United Kingdom140 contributionsNOT WHAT WE EXPECTEDWe were excited to visit this street, thinking it would be a hive of activity. We arrived around 11am ish and everywhere looked closed or empty. The street is no more than a few 100 metres long. We pretty much walked through it in less than 5 minutes. We were glad we’d had breakfast before visiting. Perhaps it has more atmosphere in the summer months or at nighttime and we just went at the wrong time.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 30, 2023
- phvi2617Anaheim, California647 contributionsHistoric buildings, but not much going onLarimer Square is just one block. It's got nice, historic architecture and some upscale restaurants, but other than that, there's not much happening here. It's nice to walk through and get some pictures, but unless you're dining, it's probably not a must-see.Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten June 23, 2024
- Bob LWinchester, Virginia680 contributionsNice stop in timeVisited Larimer Square at the request of my daughter. She had read about it and wanted to see it during our brief visit to Denver. We were fortunate to find parking just at the north end of the two block stretch of vendors. We were there around 3 p.m. and it was moderately busy. You could walk up to almost any vendor and have a discussion, be shown items or make a purchase. The busiest tent was a fancy lemonade stand! The vendors has littel to interest me but the standing stores were better. Several restaurants and jewelry stores. But the most important part was the architecture! It was beautiful. Most of it 150 years old or more and sooooo beautiful. Craftsmen made them in the old days and they were proud of their work. They created something beautiful...not just slinging up offices. It is worth a quick trip if you are downtown for something else. I doubt I would go into town just to see this.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 22, 2024
- marbenPa148 contributionsPretty square with a handful of restaurantsVery pretty square with architectural details, flags, and lighting that make for a good stroll and picture taking. There are a handful of restaurants (Osteria Marco is good) but also a number of empty storefronts. Unless you have dinner in the square, you probably wont spend much time thereVisited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 24, 2024

This is a cute little area. Shops and restaurants. It seems that it’s probably more hoppin and night and it looks like they have a lot of live music on this closed off walking street. The shops are expensive and so are the restaurants, think trendy and bougie.

The street has been turned into a pedestrian walkway with banners and lights spanning the road, lots of plants and places to sit. The many restaurants now have outdoor seating and although some of the shops remain closed due to Covid, it's a very pleasant place to stroll. Denver has done a great job of turning the street into a welcoming people place and we heard the street might remain closed to traffic.
I think that's an excellent idea.

Went to Larimer Square yesterday for lunch with a friend who was from out of town (I live in the Denver suburbs). I thought it would be a fun and lively place to take him to show off the city since the Avs were 3-1 in the Stanley Cup Finals and Larimer Square seemed to be very supportive of the Avs and in the spirit of the Stanley Cup Finals with flags of the players' jerseys hanging overhead.
What a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. The place was empty. Not much was open and what was open was empty. There was lot of scaffolding/construction that blocked the store fronts/restaurants. The only restaurants were higher end and very expensive. We were just looking for a casual place to eat a light lunch, but there was no such place.
I have no idea why Larimer Square gets so many positive reviews and why the city of Denver hypes it up so much. It was awful and a complete ghost town. I was expecting a busy, fun, lively atmosphere especially because the Avs were on the cusp of possibly winning the Stanley Cup, because it is marketed as a "must see" area if you are in Denver, and because it was a beautiful sunny summer day in a major city that attracts lots of tourists.
Come on Denver/Larimer Square you can do better...MUCH better. I was embarrassed that I took my friend to such a disappointing place. Needless to say he was NOT impressed with Denver.

Lots of interesting restaurants and boutiques but it reminds me of touristy sections across the country where the city mothers/fathers close up a street, lease to a bunch of restaurants, string up lights and flags and wait for the tourists to come. We didn't eat here but instead found a Thai restaurant around the corner in the non-touristy area that gave us our best meal of the 5 -day visit. Wander and explore!

Larimer Square looked pretty all decked out with overhead cafe lights stringing the pedestrian street, but it felt more like a ghost town when we visited for dinner and a stroll. There were very few people around when we were there, a few restaurants were closed up, and the one we wanted to go to (Cru) had only 2 patrons inside and was closing early when we arrived at 8pm. We ended up at Capital Grille, which was CRAZY expensive and way too upscale/fussy for our group (though the wait staff were SUPER nice and not snobby). Maybe it's better to visit during a warm day.

Visited Denver for the first time and was unsure where to go out at night. This was a fun spot... they close off the street so no cars can get down. There are bars out on the street so you can drink as you walk. Several of the bars had live music... and there was even a couple bands outside. It was very easy to barhop here... each place was pretty unique as well. Definitely a good time for nightlife!

Head to elegant Larimer Square for shops, people-watching, and dinner. Larimer Square is the city’s oldest and most historic part of town where the first gold prospectors from the Old West era staked their claim.
There’s a relaxed vibe and it’s the perfect part of town to chill into your weekend in Denver. You’ll find hip coffee bars, urban boutiques and exclusive stores, and maybe some street performers. For dinner, take your pick from a great range of chef-led restaurants or one of the many different cuisines available.

I ventured to Larimer Square to have dinner at this one place that I researched, but I was disappointed as they were closed due to a private event. However, this opened up an opportunity to try another restaurant where I had a fantastic dining experience. Larimer Square is a pedestrian friendly street in a historical area of the city, with several restaurants and bars on it.

At one time this was basically a homeless area, now transformed into a lovely square with plenty of restaurant and shopping choices. The vibe can be fun or fraught, depending on the crowd and time in day or evening. At least, worth a look, at most, a fun dining experience.

A great atmosphere and good places to dine dine or just to have a relaxing drink before or after dinner, in the city.
Entering Larimer Square you enter a hole new experience and seem to have left Denver behind and entered a new city.
The quality of all the services provided are top notch.

is this area dog friendly? are dogs allowed in any of the shops?
Written October 17, 2016
Hi, I personally did not travel with my dog, but there were many places that dogs were permitted inside the shops and restaurants. Water bowls for dogs were outside at many places as well. Hope this helps!

Can you tell me about parking?
Cheers,
Richard

Sometimes you can luck out and find an open meter. There are some parking lots nearby. At Larimer and 14th are on ground parking. Two blocks over, the Denver Center for Performing Arts has a garage. There is a garage at Tabor which is a block East. A few blocks north are other garages. And there is valet parking on both sides of the street on Larimer! Parking isn't a big deal.
