This hidden gem is away from the crowds but right off the road. We initially were confused on location because GPS took us to the middle of Crede and the reviews were not specific. Without great reception in the area I had to ask for directions. The Falls are actually another 20 miles north of Crede; between Crede and Lake City. It is well worth the drive. We agree w/ others on TA. A real hidden gem.

Stopped here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. Less than a mile round trip but the trail is not well maintained. Some places were pretty steep. Be sure your shoes have good treads and I wouldn't recommend sandals.

We stopped to see North Clear Creek Falls in early April when it was still very snowy up at high elevation. The road to the falls was closed, so we parked along Highway 149 and walked in. The seemingly tranquil creek suddenly drops over 100 feet into a gorge with sheer cliff faces. This is definitely one of the most impressive waterfalls in the state. It is a must-see if in the area.

Unexpected find! Was looking for something else, when we pulled into the parking area to consult my map. Decided to walk out to see it since we're here. Was expecting a small trickle of a waterfall because the creek above was a smaller one. We could hear the thunder of the falls before walking up to it. Very nice find.

The falls are raging this year from all the snow melt. They are huge! Absolutely worth seeing.. you can take the north entrance which is just right off Highway 149 or you can take the south entrance which takes you on a four mile route off road through the forest which is very nice and easy to travel. Very easy to get to the falls, no hiking required and they have restrooms.

Very nice water fall in a beautiful location. You are driving through a mountain valley and do not see where a waterfall can be until you pull into the parking area and walk to the overlook area. Also a beautiful mountain view if you walk up the ridge behind the falls parking lot. Take a left out of the parking lot and you go on a scenic ride on an all vehicle dirt road that loops back to the highway in about 5 miles.

Beautiful waterfall just a short walk from the parking lot. Plan to stay a little while and see it from different angles on the walking path. The drive from Creede on the silver thread scenic byway is very pretty and scenic.

"CLEAR"-ly a local favorite, but hidden gem as thousands of tourists speed by, unaware that it is so close and yet so spectacular! The falls, between Creede and Lake City on Highway 149 are amazing and so VERY accessible!
Even though the falls can be reached by driving Clear Creek Forest Service (dirt) road for four miles, it is readily accessible by driving down a paved road for 1/2 mile right from Highway 149. (Just watch for the Forest Service sign..) From the small parking lot, the falls are a short walk ahead. You will hear them, but you will not see them - until you are right there! And, then, YOU WILL BE AMAZED!
(note: the forest service has a small, very clean vault toilet on site)

I have visited before but was able to share the view with my wife on this trip. The fans were running strong, I assume from snow melt. Beautiful day and a beautiful place

We were coming from Creede and turned on the dirt road. 4 or 5 mile drive. Came out the short paved road from the parking lot. We turned to early. Got there anyway, and a beautiful view. Had the place to ourselves.

So funny you are from Delavan Wisc, my sister lives there on Creek Rd., we are going to Clear Crk Falls,Friday, I think you mentioned a short ride 5mi turning left coming out of the falls, where does it end up back on 140.

If you turn left coming out of the parking lot for the falls, the road will take you back around to 149. You just need to stay to the right as there are a couple turn-offs that dead end. From the parking lot, it is just at 4 miles back to 149. At about 3.7 miles, there is a place on the right you can pull off and the trail there takes you up to the base of South Clear Creek Falls. We have had someone drop us off there and they took our jeep up to the parking area for South Clear Creek Falls. It is a pretty easy hike.
