Don't let the fact that it's free fool you. This is a marvelous museum that deserves more time than we had allotted. The layout is spacious, allowing visitors to wander freely among a variety of historical artifacts, including what is labeled the World's largest watercolor painting and many lifelike stuffed animals. The gunfighter/outlaw section is chock full of guns and other western paraphernalia, and the bookstore offers an amazing assortment. Donations are welcomed and well-deserved.

Really done well for a small city. If you are passing thru Craig, take a couple of hours and visit this museum!!! The museum is 2 stories, levels, and a mix of Old West Cowboys and Lawmen around the Craig area, also early town life (1880s - 1920), and some natural history exhibits (fossils and current wildlife). They also have an excellent pistol and long-gun display.

This was a donations voluntary museum, no charge to visit. The history is fascinating and to see actual items from people I had read about as a kid was pretty exciting.
(I was not impressed with the basement level, I thought it would have more school/teacher items, mostly just pictures of graduating classes. Overall, I would take people to visit this museum.

What a fascinating museum! Full of relics from Colorado's past together with a huge selection of weapons used in the Old West. I'm British but was reared on westerns and John Wayne, and to see Winchester rifles, six guns and even Derringers was a real treat. I never realised that a lot of the events were so recent - whilst Van Gogh was painting his masterpieces in Europe men were carving out an existence in the old west. A small museum but a must see.

We've visited this little museum twice now when passing through Craig. For a small museum, it's really packed full of western memorabilia featuring local and regional history as well as an entire room dedicated to real cowboys, gunfighters and western Americana. The basement floor has a mock schoolroom set up. While we visited and until September 2012, a Norman Rockwell exhibit is on display featuring old Saturday Evening Post covers painted by Rockwell. It was excellent and well-presented. Admission is free and as of this writing hours are 9-5 Mon-Friday and Saturday 10-4.

We have been to little museums throughout the West and this is one of the best collections of guns, implements, and leathers we've seen. The saddle collection alone was awesome and the holsters were beautiful. This is a can't miss if your in the neighborhood.

Modest size, but curated vey well. The impression when you walk into the place is excellent; it looks attractive and just right. Big variety and range of exhibits, of local and national interest. Very welcoming, too. Notable is the Western exhibition, of guns, knives, bad lads, saddles etc. Recommended. Disregard any muppet who has given this anything other than a glowing review

This museum is well designed. The owners take great pride in the museum and it shows! The exhibits are informative, interesting and artistically designed. Even though some of the exhibits are about the local community, we still the exhibits interesting. If you are passing through and need a great place to walk around for awhile....visit this gem!

It's a cool museum. Three levels with different emphasis on each; gun fighters and Cowboys, the high school, and the settlement/expansion of Moffat county. It also has a hidden Mickey.
