Stopped here based on other Tripadvisor reviews and wasn't disappointed. So many interesting things in a sort of mixed-bag approach. Owners were friendly and more than willing to talk about the museum. If you are just mildly interested in history or an all-out history buff, you'll find something interesting to see here!

As I was leaving Craig heading east on highway 40 I saw the sign for this museum. I'm glad I did! What a great stop on my road trip. The museum houses so many artifacts, I could have spent all day there. Think "American Pickers." It was a treat to talk to the folks at the museum about some of the famous and infamous incidents in the area's history.
I bought my friend, who collects knives, an authentic knife forged-- by the Wyman blacksmith-- out of a railroad spike.
Some unusual items in the BIG museum include a funeral coach car (stage coach), taxidermy specimens of local fauna, a tin soldier collection, and lots of archival items for those with the time and inclination. I loved the friendship quilts from years gone by.
Be sure to check out the old schoolhouse and general store. Authentic!
The museum is free. Donations are accepted. Well-supervised kiddos would enjoy this stop to see all the old cars, trucks, tractors, and a even a tank. And they can interact with a bull elk up close.
Support small regional museums and cultural sites!

The big attraction here is Junior the Elk. The folks are gracious and friendly and happy to lead you to Junior's pen and provide you with his favorite snacks. He never seems to refuse any of them. You can also get a guided tour of an old General store, and there is also a huge barn filled with Mr. Wyman's "one of everything" collection. It is FREE, but you might miss it if you aren't really attentive. If you are traveling west, there is a small sign on Highway 40 almost immediately before the entrance. Much more obvious is the huge "Museum" sign on the roof of the barn--after you have passed the entrance.

This is a Nicely organized museum. Great collection of stuff.
I like to see things and not read a book while standing there.
Plus where else can you pet a bull elk!

The museum is one of the best we have ever seen. There is something for everyone. It really tells the story of our country, from transportation, our homes, farming, jobs, etc. There is a elk named Junior out back too.

While this museum may not be organized or showcased as professionally as some, it is packed with history, art, and whimsy. Almost everything here was collected by one man. That alone makes it a must see. Well worth an hour of your time.

We went on a drive from Steamboat and spotted this sign that said Museum on the side of the road. Thought well we better check this big tin building out. We are so happy we did. Not only do they have a real live elk for the kids to see, but inside they have a collection of historical items from cars, sewing machines, phones, animals, planes, toys, kitchen utensils, tools and so much more. Best of all it was Free. The lady working the front counter was fantastic and we likely spent an hour just talking to her and listening to her stories about the area. This in one of those things we will cherish as the little things in life that make us smile every time we think back upon it.

I have visited the Museum 3 or 4 times and twice I managed to get a special tour with Mr. Wyman as my guide. This is a real treat. He showed me the place where he keeps the farm implements and he has a story about each implement. I was never a farmer but Mr. Wyman made each item come alive. After 60 years of collecting there are lots of new things to see when I visit. He has a part time restoration specialist. working on a 1940 Dodge Command Car that was used in World War II. And a 1923 Harley Davidson with side car is being restored as well. The Harley sits next to a 1918 Liberty truck from World War I. If you visit this wonderful place plan on more than one day and you might be able to get a special guided tour.
