About
We are a private tour guide service in the Texas Creek Trail System. Texas Creek is considered by “those who know” to be the All Terrain Vehicle Capital of Colorado. Play Dirty ATV Tours starts out at 6400 ft. elevation, in the beautiful Arkansas River valley, also known as the Bighorn Sheep Canyon. We are located on Highway 50, between the spectacular Canon City Royal Gorge Bridge and the turn of the century historic town of Salida, Colorado. Minutes after leaving Texas Creek Junction, the mountain trails lead us 3000 ft. above the valley, where the views are absolutely awesome. Traces of pioneer life are all around you. We have many paths and trails to choose from and each is very different. Your personal interest and riding ability will determine which adventure is awaiting you. Play Dirty ATV Tours is the only 4-wheeler company in the region that operates under special permit from BLM to guide on beautiful, protected Federal lands of Texas Creek. Open year round.

We made the reservations the day before this tour. This is highly recommended. Walk ins might work, but they did have to prep the ATVs so best to have reservations.
There were actually 2 locations for this vendor, one in Wellsville, and one in Texas Creek. We were closer to the Wellsville location so we picked that one.
We were given a choice of single seat 4 wheelers or a side by side Rhino. Since we were a couple we chose the Rhino. It was a good choice. Easier for both of us to see
The equipment all seemed in good working order and clean enough considering the nature of the tour. We were given instructions how to start, shift, and drive the ATVs.
There were only 4 of us total on this tour so we got to leave a bit early which was good.
The trail starts on a road, but goes to gravel and then to dirt/rocks. They require you to wear a helmet and strongly recommend goggles. I would bring a mask too, not for COvid, but for the dust. This is a dirty, dusty, and loud tour.
We went up into foothills and some power company access roads. Its not riding on a city sidewalk, but it wasn’t really treacherous either. We stopped a couple times for water break and for Marty our guide to tell us how to climb a hill or go through a creek and such. He had some history about the area and the trails. Most of the time we were only going 12-15mph, which seems slow, but once you are on the trails you will see you really wouldn’t want to go any faster.
I would say this event is appropriate for beginners, but not for everyone. Like I said you get dirty and it is really loud and you are out on rocky, dusty trails.
It was a lot of fun.

It was a unbelievable experience. Experiencing the wild life, and the nature.
As someone that lives in NYC, I really appreciated this tour, as the landscape was so gorgeous, the views spectacular, and the air was just so clear.
The tour guide was so amazing!! She was so friendly and informative, and so kind and patient the whole time.
We actually got to see a wild moose in the middle of our drive!! It was so awesome!! And she didn't lose her cool, just guided us "city people" to feel calm and move on.
I went on atv tours a nice couple of times, this was by far the best!!! And I wish I remembered the name of our tour guide, so I can give her a proper shout out... [maybe the owner can help me, she is new, and gave us the tour at 6:30 in the afternoon]
Bottom line, if you are in colarado, just make sure to take this tour!!

We had a awesome time on our 3 Hr Rocky Mountain tour. We rode on the RZR 900 4 seater which it was me, my wife, 9 year old and 3 year old. The equipment was in great shape and handle the trails with no problem, the view was awesome as we went up to table top mountain. Marty was our tour guide and did an awesome job, he was very informational and made sure my kids were having a good time. We will definitely go back on our next trip back to Colorado. Thank y’all

Called ahead to book our tour and get a price quote for a 4-seater ATV. We were told that there was a 10% discount for paying with cash or a debit card. They required a card on file to book the tour and we happened to have a credit card on hand. We made sure that we could switch to the debit card upon arrival in order to get the discount. We tried to be generous and more than return our savings to the guide in the form of a tip. Upon realizing they had not applied the discount we were promised for using a debit card, I called to have the mistake remedied. Drew (the same person we had talked to get a price quote in the first place) denied that there had ever been a 10% discount except for cash, refused to discuss it further, and dismissively asked me if there was anything else he could help me with before hanging up on me.

Sorry that you mistook a cash discount for a card discount. We get charged for each transaction and it doesn't matter if it is a debit or credit card. We don't charge extra for using card so that is why we offer a cash discount. Nowhere on our website does it say card discount. Again I am sorry for any confusion. However we did not overcharge you. You booked a tour and the pricing was clearly displayed. We provided the tour as specified and you received the product as advertised.

Play Dirty ATV Tours was a great experience from the time we pulled up. The staff at the check in area were very friendly and they even refunded me 19% when I told them I could not type in the code for the discount offer. The 2 guides, John and Becky were great. John was very knowledgeable about the area and history. We took our 10 year old with us and they all made him feel like he was a part of the group. We will definitely do it again for the longer tours. Highly recommend this company

Thank you for the kind words about all our staff. We have a great family here and we try to treat our guests like they are family as well. John is very knowledgeable of the surrounding area and the history of the Royal Gorge Region. I will pass on your nice comment about him and Becky. Stay safe and come back and see us.

With a group of 8, all beginners never having ridden an ATV we went on the Sgt. Nulph tour and when we became behind schedule, one of our tour guides started to rush us. We had one of our members switch from a 4x4 passenger seat to a single rider atv and they flipped within 3 minutes of switching. The people in our party were able to lift the ATV off of her but neither of the guides had a single first aid kit. Not even a band aid. All they had brought with them were rain coats and a water bottle. There was plenty of storage space yet they didn’t even know what to do to help the person in our party who flipped. We were able to put them in the 4x4 and leave the flipped ATV but as we became more and more behind schedule, the guide told us to get very close together and stay with him even though we were all beginners and needed to go slower and spaced out especially since none of us wanted to get hurt like the member of our party who had just flipped! As we kept going after being told to close gaps and go fast we had another person flip their ATV but luckily managed to jump off before and wasn’t as badly hurt. Still after that the guide wanted us to continue to go fast because he was behind schedule and when we asked to go slower he started arguing with us. The website literally says we do not go fast and we are designed with families in mind. But that was definitely not true for us. Oh and even when we got back they didn’t even have an ice pack handy for the member of our party who had flipped first.

WOW! We absolutely loved our guide (I believe her name was Ricky?) We arrived a little early and right off the bat she was kind enough to guide us in the direction of the general store so we could grab snacks. Then on the trip there were many stops along the way where she would tell us different things about the mountains, we would stop and she would take pictures of us. She even made sure to point out wildlife as we came across it because she knew that was what we were into. Even as an inexperienced driver she had me switch seats with my boyfriend on parts of the trail that were good for me to drive and then switch back without making me feel like a horrible driver. Hands down an amazing trip with an outstanding and personable guide!

Lili (and Kat!) were wonderful guides!! They were both the perfect combination of professionalism and friendliness. We did the 2 hour tour and honestly wished we’d booked the 4 or even 6 hour tour!
We sorta booked at the last minute and we ended up on the 1pm, 2-hour tour by ourselves! We aren’t pro ATV drivers, but not newbies and this “Classic” 2-hour option was the perfect blend of some challenging roads, mild thrills, and good old fashioned gorgeous Sight Seeing.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

My family of five booked a three hour tour of the Rockies tour. Unfortunately our tour included two inexperienced 4-wheel drivers. This became evident as we stopped several times so the instructor could provide instruction/assist. Approximately 30 minutes and 1 mile into the trail one of the drivers flipped her 4 wheeler. As a result we had to go back to the trailhead and inform the staff they needed to pick up the 4 wheeler (driver of wrecked 4 wheeler rode back with our guide). The inexperienced drivers then only wanted to ride easy trails and did not want their full time allotment. We then took a few "beach runs" and our tour ended. We were back at Play Dirty in under two hours. The manger reduced our fee from the three hour tour rate to two hours. After explaining we only had about an hour on the machine we received an additional 15 percent off and I was told "I should book the solo tour to avoid this experience in the future". While I know they can't control accident's, I was disappointed we were not given the option to finish the tour or given a discount more reflective to our shortened/modified tour. The manager stated the owner would have to make the decision to further reduce our rate and after two nearly two weeks the owner has yet to contact me. While the staff and our tour guide were very friendly and I'm sure our tour would have been fantastic without the accident, they were not proactive in ensuring our experience was a positive one.

Play Dirty was a great experience from start to finish!!
Beautiful views (better than the trip to Pikes Peak) and more adventure than the rafting trip.
We booked with Lily, who took time to answer all of our questions and helped ensure we’d have a good time based on our comfort and experience level.
Gina, our trail guide, was incredible. She shared history of the area, made sure we were seeing what we wanted, and that we were comfortable with the trails along the way.
The 6 year old was a little nervous but it never felt unsafe. The teens and adults loved the challenging terrain.
100% recommend!!

How do I choose between a side by side and an Atv? I've booked for 6 passengers and 5 drivers but I'm not sure what to expect?
Written July 3, 2016
There is a weight limit to side by side. In our case we booked a 4 seater but realized when we arrived that there was 100 lb weight limit in back. That wasn't going to work with my teenagers, so we had to upgrade to 6 seater.
