Nice visit

Nice walk on the beach. Beach was fairly clean. Very pretty dunes. Didn't see any horses on the beach but still enjoyed it.

Lovely place to visit for The day. Of course the horses were the high light of the trip! Disappointed it cost to get in especially with a family on a budget .

Dan, wildlife ranger on duty acknowledged us upon our entering the visitors center. Sensing our interest in many facets of the refuge he gave us an overview of their responsibilities, duties & enforcement needed to keep both human & animal safe. Dan is a treasure- full of helpful hints to fully enjoy the refuge & common sense for both human... More

Maryland State park (not national park) Went from Wed - Sun the third week in October. Off season in a tent. The first 2 days (wed, thur) we had great weather with an empty beach, empty campground but the mosquitos were really bad because of the warm weather. Also. lots of stickers in the grass and brush. Friday and Saturday... More

We were informed and put in at two locations on the island. Very peaceful kayaking. After we finished kayaking, we were treated to seeing a six week old fold which we were told is very rare. We saw more ponies as we were leaving. This was a great day trip and I would suggest it to anyone. Just remember not... More

Went across to the island the day that "Matthew" struck the Va Beach and Norfolk Coast areas and again the following morning. Both visits were spectacular in their own right. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience of nature at its extremes. No ponies in sight, though!

OK - I do have a significant connection to Assateague. My grandmother was one of 13 children born on the island during the final years that the last lighthouse keeper manned the Light. I have grown up listening to my grandmother's tales of the island. I enjoyed going to the beach in the summer time nearly every day. I felt... More

Spent two mornings on the beach. Arrived at 5:30 a.m. each morning to get the most awesome sunrises that I have seen. Early we were able to just sit and enjoy, crowd began to arrive about 10, but the walks on the beach either direction were wonderful. Walking south past the end of the parking lots allowed a chance to... More

It's a great beach - clean, large, not too buggy (unless the ponies come and drop some doo-doo!) No concessions, no food for sale. You have to take everything with you: towels, sunscreen, food, water, hats, sunglasses, beach umbrellas, toys. There are bathrooms, changing rooms and a few shower stations. Also grills and picnic tables on the beach. Really good... More
