After visiting the Assateague Lighthouse, I drove down the island to the beach. I fully expected it to be quiet, secluded....like a state park or nature preserve. What I did not expect was to see five long rows of vehicles in every direction, the narrowest stretch of sand I've ever seen (and at a steep incline, no less) and so... More

Although the beach is getting narrower each year this is still a favorite. Today was a perfect 10! Nice breeze, lots of shells, and beautiful water. Of course, no visit to the island is complete without a trip to the famous Island Creamery on the way out!

We enjoyed this beach more than the one in Chincoteague as there were fewer bugs. It is $20 to get in but the same ticket gets you into the state park areas of Chincoteague which is nice. Unfortunately, never saw the horses on the beach, but they were waiting for us in the parking lot when we left! We would... More

If you're tired of commercial beaches full of resorts, over-priced tourist shops, and expensive beach fees, Assateague is exactly what you're looking for. A small beach that does get busy on beautiful summer weekends, it's clean, quiet, and no frills. Just far enough away from downtown Chincoteague to feel like a true getaway but close enough to make going into... More

This is a wonderful place to stay even with small kids. They do have a public restroom so you can take showers and use the bathroom. The park rangers there are really nice and they do sell firewood, Fire Starter and ice at the ranger station

Wasn't worth the drive. Cape Henlopen in Delaware is closer and more interesting. $20 to enter the National Park and $5 for the State Park is too much. Very little beach at high tide. If you are going to kayak, canoe or drive on the beach you may have a different perspective. If, like us, you are out for a... More

We went there at dusk. As we drove into the park, we saw so many wild horses. It was wonderful. For me, I have had luck seeing animal toward the end of the day. Sunset there is also beautiful. You can camp there. We parked and walked around the camping area for a bit. It was nice. You can have... More

I am a beach snob so ignored me. Lots of people. My kid had a blast. What I found interesting was, the visitors could be potentially attacked by horses. There is a warning for that. Don't judge, I came from different side of world so wild horses are new to me. The bathroom is big, I believed with shower. There... More

Gorgeous, pristine beach with beautiful dunes. Perfect for a walk. Less facilities. It's more of a natural habitat. We enjoyed our visit.
