    Lovely Riding Getaway
Had such a great time with cowgirl Ally. I had Hank who was amazing and my sister had Beth who was also lovely. We briefly rode through a community to get to the trail. The trail had stunning views with Ally sharing the history of the park. There were a few hikers on the trail that we passed by but the horses handled it fine. Would 100% come back.

    AMAZING!
My daughter and I did the 2 hour ride with Ben as our wrangler. What an amazing and beautiful ride. The horses were calm and easy to handle. Ben was full of history of the Garden of the Gods and of the horses. We will definitely be back for another ride.

    Everyone should do this ride.
Great experience for my fiance and I. The website was very user friendly, the staff friendly, but most importantly the horses were fantastic. I rode a horse naked Bertha and she was fantastic. Ben our guide was awesome and did a great job with the safety of the group and giving us a personalized tour of the park. Would definitely recommend this for anyone.

    Beautiful Setting for fun ride.
What a great ride. Beautiful scenery, beautiful horses, and a great guide named Kerri. This is definitely a different kind of horseback riding where you’re just walking around in some boring area. What beautiful sites the garden of the gods has to offer. Definitely recommend the two hour horseback ride since you get to see more of the garden.

    Lasting Memories Made Here!
If you want to make memories that will last a lifetime then you need to experience this! The staff was lovely and kind. They reviewed all of the safety guidelines and instructions so that we felt confident and safe throughout our experience. Our wrangler/guide Mairina was THE BEST! She was experienced, knowledgeable, attentive, and we all felt like we were safe in her care. The tour of the gardens was magical. I highly recommend Academy Riding Stables in Colorado Springs. Thanks Mairina! And thank you to everyone that assisted!

    Family Fun
Our family ages 8-71 all enjoyed the ride through the Garden of the Gods. The grandchildren had never ridden horses before and loved every minute. The horses were carefully selected for each rider. We noticed that all the staff were women and very kind & helpful. A highlight of our trip!

    Great fun! Great experience!
Great time! Friendly staff! Was ideal for my daughter and so because my daughter and I were “beginners”. We took the first trail ride at 9 a.m. and that was a good decision…..fresh horses and perfect temps. Our group was a total of six and it was the perfect size. Would highly recommend this activity!

The setting: the stables, Garden of the Gods, the scenery, were beautiful. I've been to GOG before when I visited my family here, on foot so I knew it slightly. Being out on horseback showed me a different perspective. The ride was "OK". I have been taking trail rides off and on for decades so I've had many different experiences. This one does not rate in the top, not for me. The guide was sweet and polite, as were all the staff. But, what made it only 'ok' was that she really didn't do much 'guiding'. I was last in a line of 7 and couldn't hear her when she did speak, and when she did it was infrequent. Very unlike the last ride I took at Ghost Ranch in NM where the guide was very informative and knowledgeable about our surroundings and told us a lot during the ride. He also challenged us based on our wishes and riding capabilities. This place did not. We were asked about our riding experience, then allowed to choose our own place in line. That was different for me, too. I've been in places that ask you specific questions about your riding abilities and experience: i.e. can you canter/gallop? Do you ride English/Western? Enough questions to get beyond your own ideas of whether you are a beginner or intermediate or have gone out never or occasionally (which is how this place phrased its questions). I did like that they make you read and complete an extensive questionnaire which also takes the horse's safety, well being and comfort into consideration and I love that. There is a weight limit for riders, they tell you no dangling objects like cameras or scarves, jewelry. Many places do not do that. So, all in all, it was OK. I plan on trying out a different trail ride while here to determine if it's similar or very different.

My husband and I took our 12-year-old and her friend horseback riding on this tour through the Garden of the Gods. Unfortunately, they gave my daughter the slowest horse that I’ve ever seen. No matter what she did it was incredibly slow which slowed everybody down. You have to ride through a residential area that takes a good 10 or 15 minutes to get through, so it didn’t help that my daughter’s horse literally walked about 1 mph through this neighborhood. She tried everything to get this horse to move but it barely walked and sometimes would stop. Once you get into the Garden of the Gods The scenery is very pretty, but we really couldn’t hear our guide. My husband was first, right behind our guide and then the two kids and then myself, so I was only fourth in line out of about eight people and I really couldn’t hear anything she said, so I’m guessing the people behind us heard nothing. We had to walk our horses in a single file line and the horses moved very slow. My husband was three horses ahead of me and even when I yelled he couldn’t hear me so we were spread out pretty far. Most of the ride was pretty, but it was definitely for people with no experience, because as I said the horses walked very slow. The staff didn’t seem to be very knowledgeable about the horses. I grew up around horses and feel that I am pretty knowledgeable and when I would ask what breed a particular horse was they would say “we don’t know” or “maybe a quarter horse”. I could tell just by looking at them what a lot of them were, but the staff didn’t seem confident. If I had never been on another trail ride like this, I may have given it a higher rating, but I have been on quite a few rides like this, a lot of them in Arizona and I found them a lot more enjoyable. As on those rides I was able to actually interact with the guide and have a conversation and the horses didn’t move so slow that turtles were passing us. I understand that we had to take a residential area to get to the garden of the gods, but it was frustrating that probably at least 20 minutes out of the hour of our ride was spent riding in a residential area on the streets. The staff was very friendly and nice though. Their were several young woman working there, I believe most of them wranglers (guides), and they were all very nice and sweet, so the staff was definitely pleasant. I know the girl behind me had never ridden a horse and this was her first horseback riding tour and she seemed very pleased. Again, this was definitely for somebody with absolutely no horseback riding experience or for younger kids. I know our daughter and her friend enjoyed it, but I think they were ready to be done riding after one hour.

Hi Tracey, We are so happy your family enjoyed the pretty scenery of the Garden of the Gods and our friendly staff! The tours are a full one and two hour tours through the Garden of the Gods. The time that is used to walk through the residential area to get to the Garden of the Gods is not included in the tour times. Thank you so much for the feedback on interacting more with the wranglers during the tour. We will continue to improve and the safety of our guest, staff and horses is our number one priority! Thank you for visiting with us and best wishes.

This place is totally fine for a trail ride.

Pros: Close to Denver, CO Springs. Through the Garden of the Gods scenery. Happy guides. Well cared for horses. Some cool features on the trail- rock stairs etc.

Covid: They ask you to “pack in” and “scrunch down” with strangers while you wait, and the “safety speech” was done 2 feet away by a screaming girl not wearing a mask . They keep reminding you you can take your mask off on the horse (which is naturally socially distanced) so that’s fine. They have hand sanitizer. We wiped down our helmet straps with wipes we brought.

Cons: They take the horses down the paved street where some cars don’t slow down or leave room. This can be jarring for new riders. It all feels a bit like a Disney conveyer belt- they know how to pack in the tourists and scream the orientation talk to 15 people. It’s all... fine. It’s nose to tail so it’s not a real ride like other stables offer- not great for more experienced riders (no chance to get to know your horse better, move around, get side by side), though some horses will throw in little mini trots for you. There is little real history. More like just “look that rock looks like a fish!” Our guide was kind of manic but genuinely lovely, patient and relaxed, and would've been fun for kids.

All in all. For the price and location, it was worth it. But if you’re not a complete beginner / tourist, find something more interesting/ authentic/ personalized/ grown up. I’m definitely going to keep looking for a go to trail ride and will go back to hike Garden of the Gods. We tipped our guide $20 each.

My boyfriend and I made reservations for horseback riding with this company in CO Springs. We were on vacation which we had saved for. Also, he had not been horseback riding in over 20 years so I thought this would be a lot of fun. When we arrived he was given a horse named Ariel. Staff warned us that Ariel doesn’t like to walk so he would have to kick her a lot to get her to move. This was an understatement! Ariel did not want to walk at all and my boyfriend was constantly way behind the group and I had to keep stopping my horse so he could catch up and not feel left out. The entire ride the guide had to repeatedly ask how Ariel was doing and would tell my boyfriend to kick her and kick her harder. This became extremely annoying to us and I am sure to the other guests who were trying to enjoy their ride. Not only that other outfitters we passed would just smile and ask how Ariel was doing so they also clearly knew this poor horse didn’t like what she was doing. To add to that- no new rider just trying to have a good time wants to have to constantly kick their horse and kick her hard- it doesn’t feel good to have to do that. The scenery was fantastic but this completely ruined our trip. I can’t believe they would continue to send Ariel out on these trips. So when we got home to NC I was put in touch with Sarah who said she would issue a gift certificate for a free ride for just my boyfriend. I explained in my first email to her that would not work as we live in NC and wouldn’t be coming back to CO Springs. After having to follow up with her multiple times due to no response and requesting a refund she simply said that is all they can offer. I then left 2-3 messages for the owners who have never taken the time to respond to me at all AND we have never received the gift certificate. The nice lady who answers the phones told me she had given my messages to the owners but of course she can’t make them call me back. We worked hard to save this money and have this experience which was highly disappointing. What’s more mind blowing is their utter lack of communication or care for how our trip went and how to make it right. I work in customer service and never would I treat unsatisfied customers with such disregard. We were there in the fall of 2020 and I have been attempting to communicate with them since then. At this point it is December 2020 and I guess I am reduced to writing this review. Shame on them.

Hi Amanda, Thank you for feedback on Ariel, you stated the ride was enjoyable. We did issue gift card, it never expires, feel free to use at any time. We have been in business over 30 years so please come try another horse in the future. You stated you had several communications with many of our staff, office, email with all reassurance about your gift card. Best wishes and thank you for letting us provide a future ride for your boyfriend as our guest.

Our family of 5 took a 2-hour ride through Garden of the Gods. From our 12-year old through us parents, none of us are experienced riders. But the stables were very clean & organized, and our wranglers were very friendly and helpful as well, so we were able to thoroughly enjoy this unique way to see the park and its wonderful views.

My only disappointment was that our group was so large, that being in the middle of the line, we really couldn't hear anything that either wrangler in the front or back of the line were saying, and we would have been interested to hear what they were sharing. They were trying their best, though, yelling very loudly in an attempt to let everyone hear.

Definitely take their recommendation and wear jeans to avoid chaffing on the saddle. We were all a little sore after 2 hours, but I'm sure that's simply because we're not regular horse riders. It was definitely something we all enjoyed and we would return to do it again next time we're in the area!

My husband, two daughters (ages 12 and 13), and I enjoyed a 5pm ride with Anna in the Garden of the Gods. It was great! Anna was a great guide - funny and full of good info about the Garden. None of us are riders but everyone at Academy Riding Stables took care of us! The horses were in great shape and not just trying to eat or get back to the barn (if you’ve taken some horse tours where the horses were like that you know what I mean). Also, for people concerned about COVID-19, they had good precautions and required masks until we were on the horses. They even took photos of us on the horses. Great place; I recommend them!

Some of my family came for a visit and said the only thing they really wanted to do was to go on the 2 hour horseback ride through Garden of the Gods. In the 25 years of living in Colorado Springs, I had never done it. I lived on a farm and rode horses throughout the years so I never had any interest in a trail ride. Though this is a typical trail ride where everyone is single file and the pace is a walk, the scenery and people definitely makeup for it. I saw areas of the GOG that I had not hiked through before and there were fantastic views along the way. Academy Riding Stables is well-run, everyone is friendly, professional, and they put the safety of their riders first. The horses were well taken care of and happy. Maggie, our wrangler, could be clearly heard as she talked about the history of the park and shared stories. There were 5 of us on the ride. We booked the morning ride, which I suggest because the sun here is very intense (wear sunscreen, drink water) and afternoon storms sometimes roll in during the summer months. A couple of us forgot to bring hats, and the gal signing us in kindly found spares. They also offered small bottles of water that were gratefully accepted. I wore a fabric backpack to carry water and sunscreen as there are no saddlebags. After the ride, we all agreed the 2 hour ride was worth it and we would gladly go again. We would also be very interested in an early morning ride, if offered. Many of the other reviews cover the fact a novice rider would feel comfortable and experienced riders (with the right expectations) would enjoy seeing GOG on horseback. This was a very enjoyable way to see the natural beauty of the area!

They are good at caring for their horses and they have knowledgeable and couteous staff. My disappointment was in the online reservation stating that our group would be limited to 5 riders aside from the guide. I would not have signed up if I thought there would be 8 people in our group and only 1 guide. There were 4 of us in our family, but 3 of us have special needs and I felt like we took up too much of the time. I could not hear most of what our guide said since she was 4 horses away so I can't imagine that the people behind me heard anything. Initially we were told that 3 people in another group were running late so they decided to group the other 4 people with us so they wouldn't have to wait. I probably would have been okay with that if the circumstance was different. Then the story changed when I expressed disappointment to they didn't know why I thought it was a group of 5, they didn't know anything about their online booking and this was the normal group size. Online there were strict stated rules about needing to be on time and we worked hard to make our time commitment so I don't know why we paid for someone else being late. Anyway, they gave my son a horse that was stubborn as a mule and wouldn't move. Finally, our wrangler took that horse by the lead to get it moving. At least my son's girlfriend enjoyed her first time riding. I wouldn't do it again.

Worth the money! We did the 1 hour ride through the mountains and it was so fun!!! If you are looking for a relaxing adventure with beautiful views this is it! The tour guide Taylor did a great job explaining landmarks and making sure no one got left behind. My horse was a bit lazy, if they give you a horse name Arielle just know she’s stuck in her ways and will stop when she feels like it. LOL. Great experience! I will definitely book again next time my husband and I are visiting.

I had never done a trail ride before. ARS handled the experience well. Everyone was friendly. Check in was simple. All the paperwork was completed on line the day before.
They had some scientific method for choosing your horse. The horse's name became your trail name. Mine was @%$@&#. Both of my daughters and I seemed to enjoy the rides we got. The horses know what to do. I think I had some input hard to tell.

The instructions we got were very clear. We all felt comfortable saddling up. They had lots of help getting us ready to ride.

Anna was great wrangler for our group. She wasn't afraid to speak up. She quietly lead us through the residential area before she exploded with hoots, hollers, and helpful information about the Garden of the Gods. She was thoroughly entertaining.

It was a fun experience and worth trying if you are in the area.
