This place is located right off Highway 24 between I-25 and the exit to take to go into Manitou Springs so it's very convenient and offers quite a bit of parking. Depending on time & day the parking lot can fill up but most of the time you will find parking. The park offers some portable potties and picnic tables with shade.
On some trails you can get some great views of Garden of the Gods. The trails aren't too difficult so most people can hike the trails or ride the mountain bikes on the trails. There are some rocks that people practice climbing up ledges because they aren't that tall (estimate up to 70 feet high). There is a small lake that offers some nice reflections if you enjoy photography.
This is a great place to take visitors from out of town because they will enjoy it without the altitude bothering them too much.

We went for a morning walk with our dog. It was already very warm at 10:30 AM. It didn’t seem overly crowded and we only saw a handful of people on our walk. There’s a nice dog park where you can let your dog off the leash and then exit a gate at the top to continue on the trails. It looks like there’s quite a few trails and it’s bike friendly. I wouldn’t say there was a ton of shade where we were. We didn’t hike quite as long because it was so hot. There was a very full porta potty available.. Also, there was a “hidden“ third parking lot that we discovered as we were driving away. We would park there next time and try those trails, as it had more trees.

My husband and I went to the Garden of the Gods this morning and then went to Red Rock Canyon later this afternoon. It was a beautiful day for hiking - low 70’s with a nice breeze. We enjoyed our hike around the canyon and learning the history of the park through the boards placed around different places. It was nice that there wasn’t a lot of people a as far the rock formations were similar to what we saw this morning. Overall the hike was pretty easy and we enjoyed it a lot.

As visitors from out of state, this park provided great evening walks for our family with 10 and 12 yo boys! The rock formations are located around an old rock quarry, so you will see many beautiful red rock structures (much like Garden of the Gods), but in a less manicured way. The trails are easy to follow and it seems hard to get lost. Many opportunities to climb and explore, also saw so many deer up close, it was amazing! (also saw many bikes/decent bike trails) Finally, the only facilities are semi-gross porta-potties if you don’t want to find a place off-trail.

Pretty easy hike on a red gravel trail. There is a small body of water surrounded by some great views. We saw a mule deer. There were a lot of family pictures going on which killed the vibe.

This part has almost everything you'd want in mountain bike trails: red rock, rock rolls, trees, hucks, Section 16 is a super technical trail with all kinds of challenging moves, easy flow, jumps, white rock, stairs, see saws, and even mini bike park. In the winter, it can be a bit snowy and the north facing side can be unridable. But sometimes if the winter is dry, you can hit it year round. Spring and Summer are best. Fall is gorgeous and the sun flowers in the park are insane! Amazing views of Garden of the Gods. You can ride for hours in there!
Parking is pretty easy either by Rudy's BBQ (more open) and the entrance off of 24. Additional parking on the Section 16 side but it can be pretty packed and challenging to find a spot especially at peak hiking season. Port-o-potties are at every parking lot.
This trail has something for everyone including the beginner to the expert rider.
We are very lucky to live right across the street!

The website said the park was open for hiking so we drove 90 miles today 6/8/20 to see the amphitheater. We started hiking only to be stopped by an employee in a red shirt who told us the park was closed. I suggest calling the park number ahead of time (which we didn't do but sure wish we would have instead of trusting the website! ) because that recording states the park is closed.

Our group of 11 included 5 walking children (ages 8, 7, 5, 4, 3) a 1-year-old in a hiking carrier, a teen, and 4 adults. We spend a few hours hiking the easy and intermediate trails. It was a great morning, and everyone did very well. Great trails and incredible beauty!

Stay to your left, the higher you go the better the view. The hike is easy but finding a parking spot wasn't. We weren't sure how close the other parking was but on the hike we saw the other ones. Go pass that 1st one, there might be more parking spots so you don't have to play musical chairs. It is only one way, so be patient.
We also saw deers & some cute birds.

We went to visit here after we had completed our morning visit to Garden of the Gods. On the day we went, there were only a few people there and it was an extremely hot day. We didn't venture to far into the park as it was much too hot to hike so from what we saw, it wasn't too much. But from people we talked to, it is very beautiful if you go hiking a bit. Next time we are there we would come earlier in the morning and take a hike in further to see it splendid glory. It is worth a visit but be sure not to omit a prior visit to Garden of the Gods.

Are there any good camping spots close in the area? We are trying to make final honeymoon decisions and are wondering if there is a camping area we could use as "home base" for a couple nights that would be close to trails to explore during the day.

Yes there are a few in the area. They have cabins to rent in Manitou Springs as well as an RV resort.

Which trail should I take for me to able to see those beautiful ponds or is it a lake?

I'd recommend taking the red rock canyon path up to the quarry trail (which is more advanced) over to the Greenlee path and take that back. They are ponds.

We'll be in Colorado Springs end of July. If we only had a couple hours at Red Rock, of the many trails there - which would be the most scenic? (overlooks - rock formations). We do like to hike and are active. Thanks!

I would probably hike up red rock trail to roundup and then come back down Mesa trail.

Do you think a 5-year-old could handle the walking? We'll be there in a week.

Most of the trails are fairly easy. It would just be a matter of how long your young one will walk. Walking by the pond/lake would be interesting for a child.

Sorry, too early. Mid summer might be good provided we have rain.

I want to drive from Southern California to Colorado Springs via a scenic route. No terrible hurry. Looking for open roads and nice curves.
