- Linda MLyndhurst, New Jersey63 contributionsVery nice loop hike. Also, off-leash dog area. This was our first stop in Colorado Springs, and it was a very nice loop hike. The scenery was very pretty, and some of the rock formations were amazing. Birds such as Woodhouse's Scrub Jay (formerly Western Scrub Jay) were abundant, if shy. Binoculars are a must if you want to see them. There is also a large off-leash area for dogs along the trail.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 24, 2023
- NoraatcSudbury, Massachusetts39,137 contributionsOften forgotten sibling of Garden of the GodsRed Rock Canyon is six minutes drive from gorgeous Garden of the Rocks, so if you have some time, give it a shot. The trails are versatile, short and very beautiful: climb a little and you will see the green valley below adorned with red cliffs. The parking lot is large and Red Rock Canyon is free to explore.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 10, 2024
- JenniferZanesville, Ohio13 contributionsWell-marked trails. Great views! So glad we found these trails! There were trails for all skill levels and various lengths. Everything was well marked. Porta potties at the trailhead. A large enclosed dog park. The views were amazing! We hiked but also saw runners and bikers on the trail.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 31, 2024

This part has almost everything you'd want in mountain bike trails: red rock, rock rolls, trees, hucks, Section 16 is a super technical trail with all kinds of challenging moves, easy flow, jumps, white rock, stairs, see saws, and even mini bike park. In the winter, it can be a bit snowy and the north facing side can be unridable. But sometimes if the winter is dry, you can hit it year round. Spring and Summer are best. Fall is gorgeous and the sun flowers in the park are insane! Amazing views of Garden of the Gods. You can ride for hours in there!
Parking is pretty easy either by Rudy's BBQ (more open) and the entrance off of 24. Additional parking on the Section 16 side but it can be pretty packed and challenging to find a spot especially at peak hiking season. Port-o-potties are at every parking lot.
This trail has something for everyone including the beginner to the expert rider.
We are very lucky to live right across the street!

Pretty easy hike on a red gravel trail. There is a small body of water surrounded by some great views. We saw a mule deer. There were a lot of family pictures going on which killed the vibe.

In its own way, just as spectacular as Garden of the Gods. Not as big and grand, but you are allowed to get up close to the rock formations as you walk among them. Several spots that give you the view of the entire area rock formations-from Red Rock Canyon through to the Garden of the Gods and the surrounding smaller rocks. Really puts the whole area into a great perspective. This is a view only from the Canyon. Well worth the time to hike the much quieter trail system. Went on a Monday just before noon and saw less than 50 people.

The website said the park was open for hiking so we drove 90 miles today 6/8/20 to see the amphitheater. We started hiking only to be stopped by an employee in a red shirt who told us the park was closed. I suggest calling the park number ahead of time (which we didn't do but sure wish we would have instead of trusting the website! ) because that recording states the park is closed.

My husband and I went to the Garden of the Gods this morning and then went to Red Rock Canyon later this afternoon. It was a beautiful day for hiking - low 70’s with a nice breeze. We enjoyed our hike around the canyon and learning the history of the park through the boards placed around different places. It was nice that there wasn’t a lot of people a as far the rock formations were similar to what we saw this morning. Overall the hike was pretty easy and we enjoyed it a lot.

Stay to your left, the higher you go the better the view. The hike is easy but finding a parking spot wasn't. We weren't sure how close the other parking was but on the hike we saw the other ones. Go pass that 1st one, there might be more parking spots so you don't have to play musical chairs. It is only one way, so be patient.
We also saw deers & some cute birds.

Very close to Garden of the Gods and easy to access right off the highway. Unfortunately it seems that to see much, you must hike in from the parking area (unlike Garden of the Gods where much can be seen from the road). I had wanted to see the carved steps but due to the heat, sun, and energy level of everyone in the party, going on the trail to find them simply wasn’t an option. Maybe next time. If you’re up for the hike, though, I would definitely recommend checking it out, as it was significantly less crowded and much calmer than Garden of the Gods.

We took a 3 mile family hike with a 14 and 11 year old in the evening before dinner. We didn’t get lost so nobody should! We took Red Rock Canyon Trail then Path, onto Quarry Pass Trail and some of Mesa and Sand Canyon Trail. Take a picture of the map from their website for reference if needed. Absolutely beautiful land with amazing views. We may even go back again. Met a friendly squirrel, birds including a woodpecker and lots of deer. You will get red dirt all over but it’s worth it. Trails are easy for those who don’t hike often like us. Highly recommend a visit!

Another beautiful hike in the springs area. But this one you can park just about any where and you can walk without sharing the road with kids and dogs and strollers.
Yes you could do a stroller if it has bigger wheels but I don't recommend a regular stroller on the gravel.
Easy hikes and more challenging side bars. Just a stone's throw from GoGs but easily as enjoyable and much more intimate! And great views!

I think I liked hiking here more than the Garden of the Gods (which you shouldn't miss if you're in CO springs). You start out hiking in a relatively uninteresting field, but if you go back to the quarry area it's amazing. I went on a Sunday and relatively uncrowded. Nice hike. They have easy, medium, and hard trails.

Are there any good camping spots close in the area? We are trying to make final honeymoon decisions and are wondering if there is a camping area we could use as "home base" for a couple nights that would be close to trails to explore during the day.

Yes there are a few in the area. They have cabins to rent in Manitou Springs as well as an RV resort.

Which trail should I take for me to able to see those beautiful ponds or is it a lake?
Written August 31, 2020
I'd recommend taking the red rock canyon path up to the quarry trail (which is more advanced) over to the Greenlee path and take that back. They are ponds.

Hi! What is the best trail for sights? I only have a half day and want to see as much as I can of Red Rocks. I ready the Quarry trail is best?

We'll be in Colorado Springs end of July. If we only had a couple hours at Red Rock, of the many trails there - which would be the most scenic? (overlooks - rock formations). We do like to hike and are active. Thanks!
Written June 4, 2019
I would probably hike up red rock trail to roundup and then come back down Mesa trail.

Do you think a 5-year-old could handle the walking? We'll be there in a week.
Written July 13, 2018
Most of the trails are fairly easy. It would just be a matter of how long your young one will walk. Walking by the pond/lake would be interesting for a child.

I am not sure what Weatherike is.
The weather changes frequently here in Colorado Springs. Easy to track on a smart phone.

We've been here in September. We are going again this coming week. Does anyone know if wildflowers are out yet?
Written April 4, 2018
Sorry, too early. Mid summer might be good provided we have rain.

I want to drive from Southern California to Colorado Springs via a scenic route. No terrible hurry. Looking for open roads and nice curves.
