After parking, we immediately noticed a big naked guy in one of the larger pools. Needless to say, we headed to the opposite side to try and soak. There was just one little spot of hot springs coming into freezing cold river water. Several of...More

Really cool spot if you manage to go on a non-crowded day. Beautiful scenery, boiling hot water, peaceful on the right day. If you go I’d recommend going in the off-season to avoid crowds.

You could die if another rockfall happens here. Years ago this was family friendly but now it is full of hipsters, campers and unsavory characters.

Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded. Avalanche Hot Springs a mile down the road is so worth the price.

Penny Hot Springs used to be a gem, now it's just an overstuffed pool filled with who knows what. I recommend you stay away. I know I will.

Late afternoon attracts the kids with drinks and music. Mid day mid week is a quieter crowd. A beautiful natural phenomenon.

The hot spring is au natural! Read into the history a little bit and I found out the locals actually wanted to do away with the hot springs at one point in time. Every time I've been it's been all smiles and solitude. It's an...More

Free to the public and not hard to find. I put "Penny hot springs" into Google maps and it took me right to it. Parking is right off of Hwy 133 and it's a very short walk down to the hot springs. I would recommend...More

Okay, this was harder to find than I thought, but a few locals told me that it's right around mile marker 54, and then we found it. Great little springs on the side of a river. Just FYI, the climb down is steep but short....More

The temperature of the water is determined by the month, the flow of the river, and how you arrange the rocks. Except for during the heaviest runoff periods in late spring and early summer, you can usually form a pool to... More

There are a few trails like Avalanche Creek Trail where you could hike in. As far as driving into a place, there are some places on the way to Marble that may be okay for that. You can also camp at Redstone Campground... More

Yes. It's not a real big area and there is not a lot of room to roam, and there can be a decent number of people. But yes, this is a public space that is not formally monitored with policies or enforcement. Free domain if... More
