We really enjoy taking our canoe on Cottonwood Lake. It is a beautiful spot to get away from the busy world and relax.

I like to head out this way to just have a nice relaxing time and adventure in another area away from home. The campsite here is very well maintained, and you can also go down the dirt road and find other campsites scattered about. The lake has some great little trails around it, as well as you can kayak or... More

Cottonwood Lake is one of those peaceful hamlets it was nice to come across. You can hike almost all the way around, and it is a very quiet and relaxing place to spend some time. Now that I am back in 'the city', I appreciate it even more...

Incredibly beautiful mountain lake well-stocked with trout. Some of our party just enjoyed walking around the lake while others fished. We wished we'd allotted time for a second trip.

This is a nice lake along which you can hike in the base of the Cottonwood Pass which is also an exhilaration drive at sunset. So, an afternoon lake hike and drive to the top (another 15 minutes) provides a Continental Divide panorama at sunset that is likely to include a view of some distant storms.

Cottonwood lake lies in a very beautiful valley about 10-15 minutes out of Buena Vista. Access is via a 3 mile dirt road which seems to deter a lot of the crowds. The lake itself offers good fishing for stocker trout from the bank. It is a small lake with restrictions on boats. No motors are allowed including gas or... More

A great lake for those who like to paddle (row boats, kayaks, SUP). No motors allowed. I had a very enjoyable time kayaking and fishing from my kayak. Caught several fish in less than hour. If you paddle on the west end of the lake their are several little inlets to explore that are hidden from view. We plenty of... More

I've been hiking around the lake along poplar gulch which was decent. You can hike all the way up to tincup pass by that route, but I've never made it that far. Ive paddle boarded on the lake which was super fun. Good picnic spots. There's a campground there and dispersed camping up the road a bit. I saw red... More

8 miles or so West of Buena Vista on paved highway, followed by three miles of dirt road. The lake is a beauty. Seems the locals use it mostly for fishing, and we saw several people with catches. We went up to look for mountain goats, but we were too late in the day. Go at dawn or dusk and... More
