Horrible

What a disappointment! Dogs are limited to a very short distance on the trail that encircles the lake. It would be great if you could drive around the lake but it’s only for authorized vehicles! I didn’t see a bird anywhere. What a waste of $9.

Visit with family
May 2021
Very nice visit to Barr Lake. They have a great nature center to visit. Lots of wildlife information. Many birds in the area. Walked along a little bit of the lake on the trails provided. Very nice walk with plenty of seats to rest on along the way. They have picnic tables there and restrooms.

Great Park!
Jul 2020
This park is a hidden gem outside of Denver! It's relaxing. Over the years the Park Manager Michelle has made a lot of improvements & features to improve the park enjoyment. Staff are always kind and willing to talk to you. Some people complaint about the park fee. The positive is if the park isnt for you, you can use that same park pass until 10 AM the next day (I believe, its written on the pass). I bought an annual so I could visit many parks.

Nice place to visit - great wildlife
Mar 2020
This is a small, but very nice State Park. It was having large volumes of people after Covid 19, but during more normal times, its a nice quiet place to visit.

Its a bird sanctuary and I saw many interesting wildlife there. Good place for photography. The lake is very pretty with the skyline of Brighton, CO beyond.

Nice Place to go see wildlife, especially birds. Nice walking trails, good place to get some exercise or take your family for some sun and fresh air.

Wonderful Vista!

Barr Lake is a gem of Colorado Park & Wildlife. The Park Rangers & volunteers make this a welcoming wildlife area amid the ever expanding urban sprawl. Bi-annual bird counts, bird walks, fishing, boating and family events are a few of the activities to be had!

Nice nature lake area
Feb 2020
What can I say, it’s only a nature area. The lake itself is filled with the effluent out of Denver’s sewage treatment plant. But there are eagles nesting here and there really is no smell. There are miles of nature trails and admission is $8 per car.

Came to see eagles, will be back to walk. Great signage

I came to see the bald eagles. They were not there. The water was frozen over so the consensus was that the birds couldn't fish so they moved on. It's $4 for a daily pass. If the attendant is not at the station then you pull up to credit card box and serve yourself. You'll need your receipt to put on your dashboard. The eagles are normally located across the lake on the other side. A fellow leaving the park told us that a cart can take you there. We waited on the other side of the bridge but never saw a cart. It was cold and windy. We didn't walk. Instead, we looked around inside the visitor center. An attendant greeted us. They had hot water for tea and cocoa along with coffee. You can sit on the couch and watch the various species of small birds at the feeders. There's lots of interactive things for children. As a matter of fact, there were a group of children in a room having lunch. A couple that we met when we arrived said they did walk for a little bit but never saw any eagles. We will return in the summer to walk around the lake. Lots of taxidermy inside along with gifts including beautiful nature photography, clothing, hats, ornaments, postcards, playing cards, plush gifts, etc. Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful rangers.

Barr lake is a beautiful lake. Love going for walks there and picnic's with the family. Boating is great because no big motors are allowed. So peaceful

Eagle Express Tour
Jan 2020 • Solo
This is such a wonderful state park! Have visited twice this Winter. The staff is amazing. Friendly, helpful. There’s plenty to do. Great for photography and bird watching. There’s a small couch in the visitors center in front of a picture window where you can watch birds feeding and listen to their songs via a speaker. The Eagle tour is fun! Volunteers are very knowledgeable and love to answer questions. Don’t miss the sculptures by the boat dock and archery range by a park volunteer. Still not as crowded as some parks.
