Exceeded expectations

We really enjoyed this tour, it was educational and entertaining. After the tour, spent about 2 hours panning for gold. Would highly recommend, especially for families with children.

Great tour!
Sep 2019 • Couples
We had a great time! We were lucky enough to have a tour to ourselves on a Friday morning. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the mines and made the tour a lot fun. She helped us pan for gold afterwards and we found a few pieces! I would highly recommend this tour for anyone: kids or adults.

Great Experience!
Aug 2018 • Family
This was such a great experience! Ian was a great and patient guide. He was very knowledgeable and had answers for all our questions. We have 9 and 11 year old boys. He included them and asked them lots of questions to keep them engaged. Would definitely recommend to any family visiting the area or locals looking for an educational and fun experience about this great area we live. And we all found gold!

Great Mine Tour
Jul 2018 • Friends
What a great tour of a Colorado mine! We learned about the life of miners, the ruthlessness of mine owners and the history of the area around Breckenridge. Thanks to Ronnie from the Breckenridge Historical Society who knows the history of the area, we were treated to a great history lesson. Going into the mine, the miner’s cabin and seeing the tools of the trade was very informative. The best part of the tour was panning for gold, and I found a few flecks! Such a good lesson for persons of all ages.

Fun and different activity for the whole family

We visited and got a tour from Ian - he did a great job!
Our kids are young, but he was informative for bot the adults and kids. Great look at the mine, tools and the tasks involved. Ending with gold panning was fun and informative for all. Great tour and informative about the area. Make time for this - it's a great way to learn about the area and some history as well. And, you may even get some gold flake to take home (we did!)

Had a great time
Jun 2018 • Couples
We went on vacation without the kids this time and brought friends along. We were looking for fun things to do and had a great time at the mine learning about the history and planning for gold. This isn’t some lame gold panning like we thought, we were truly surprised. This was not commercialized and had a real feel to the mine experience. We had a fun-learning experience. Ronnie was a greet guide. Thank you.

We went when it was closed so we just walked around the historic equipment

It is a nice place to visit even when it is not open for tours. Based on the other reviews, I'm glad we did not wait for a tour. Just walking around the place gave you a sense of how hard it was to make a living mining.

Kids enjoyed this.

Fun for the kids to find gold. Both found a little and thought they were millionaires. Requires a bit of focus to sift through the pans but interesting adventure.

This tour is not kid friendly!
Sep 2015 • Family
Went on this tour 9/19 with my aunt and two young children (ages 2 and 4 1/2) My 4 1/2 year old was excited to tour a mine, wear a hard hat and pan for gold. However, our tour was 70 minutes in to a 90 minute tour and we had not even entered the mine. The guide was very informative and provided great historical info for the adults on the tour but talked way too long for my young kids. We ended up leaving because my 2 year old daughter simply could not stay in one spot any longer and even my son was done after an hour of no action. When I called to explain our situation we were given a refund for my son but we were still charged for both adults. The guide said that the other adults wanted to talk in detail about the history and he was simply giving them information. However, we were 4 of the 8 people on the tour so I said he should have continued with the tour and answered more of their questions at the end. BTW he was simply talking and we adults were doing a lot of head nodding and not really asking questions. I left the tour with a bitter taste in my mouth b/c as a history lover I wanted to share this experience w/ my kids and they were disappointed. They should either state that the tour is not for young kids or have one kid friendly tour each day and a separate tour w/ more detail for adults...we were misled!
