The trail is a dirt road up the mountain and not difficult to hike. We brought our dogs and they did fine. We did not do the full loop and only made it 1 mile up when we encountered a sizable snow drift across the path. We did hike around it but a storm was moving in so we turned around at that point. Would be pretty on a sunny day. You are pretty high up so be prepared for wind.

Worth the drive up this way from Breckenridge. We saw this pullout spot a few times as we came from Fairplay area initially and then went to Buena Vista for rafting. There is a trail here but we did not get a chance to hike it but the views are really nice.

We travel between Breckenridge and Fairplay some and Hoosier Pass always gives us a nice view of the Breckenridge valley (on the North side) and the Alma/Fairplay valley on the south. A number of hairpin turns coming from Breck but nothing the average driver can't handle. While we've never hiked at the top, the hiking trails at the Hoosier pass summit appear to be very popular!

Absolutely gorgeous views from this trail. It's doable for most people; if having altitude issues just stop and rest when you need to. We were glad to have brought water and a light jacket. We went in the late afternoon and passed only a few people on the trail - for most of the hike we had the mountains all to ourselves!

Popped up to the trailhead to take a selfie with the sign, as one does. Decided to go for a short hike. Scrambled up through the woods to the gravel road above and did about 2.5 miles. GREAT views, not that difficult, downright hot in the direct sun even though it was October. 11,500 ft was a good place to get my lungs a bit ready to do the same on a 14er the next day.
People I ran into were friendly, and the trailhead parking lot had a fairly fast turnover between folks who just need a selfie and folks doing the short hike.

We got so lost and the hike ended up becoming way longer than expected. Take the shuttle, otherwise parking adds another 1.5 miles each way. Download Alltrails and have the hike open before you start, or print a map and follow it as signage is not good.

The only reason we didn't rank this place as excellent is because the trails are not marked very well. It can be very confusing unless you know where you are going. I had researched on Trip Advisor about the loop trail at the top of Hoosier Pass and was still confused. The trail is absolutely beautiful and was the highlight of our day. We did the loop from Breckenridge, Hoosier Pass, Alma, Fairplay, Como, Boreass Pass back to Breckenridge. Was a wonderful trip and highly recommend it. Don't forget to layer and expect the unexpected. It was sunny and a slight chance of rain in the afternoon. It began to snow on us early morning. Be prepared and take water and snacks.

We drove over on our way home while it was snowing last week. Very scary for us in a two wheel drive truck with no weight on the back plus our side of the road was not cleared yet, it's still snowing, early morning. So, we could not pull over and take in the sights. We have been over the pass in the summer and it is lovely.

The hike is about 2 miles up & 2 miles down. You get beautiful views on the old mining road up. There was part of the trail blocked by snow in July, so just be prepared. We chose not to take the road back down, but rather take the path back over the mountain. It was much quicker & we got different views.

We always enjoy going over Hoosier pass. We stop and take in some hiking trails. You can always take the next road going sound and take it to the dam. Great views of Quandary Peak.

Planning on doing our wedding ceremony here. My dad has bad knees and we are hoping to not have to walk far. How far would you need to hike to get good views? Thank you!

Looking to pull off to stargaze and this seems to be the best idea coming out of breck. However I don't have a 4x4. Any suggestions on where to stop after dark?

Is this a dog-friendly trail? Thanks

I believe so, don’t recall any signs that prohibit them.

Wanting to go tomorrow and it will have fresh snow. Would the trails still be visible?
