This drive really makes you feel like you are at the top of a mountain. Beautiful rough rock. Take a jacket even if summer just in case . It was 65 and really windy the day we went in July. Go to upper and lower lakes. No goats the day we went. There's an unmarked path going up on the left where you can pullover and walk to a beautiful waterfall and hike around. Stop at Quandry Trailhead on your way too

Breckenridge is full of beauty but this lake blew our minds! We drove all the way to the top to park. Leave your mini van at home because the gravel road up is quite ready for 4 wheel drive. We hiked the falls and Quandry trail and saw a family of mountain goats. What a great area to feel part of nature! Bring wind jacket, it can get quite windy. Great stop! Give yourself 2 hours to enjoy.

Wow, just wow! The 2 mile dirt road to the lake is rutted and narrow in some places. We visited in mid-May and there was still snow piled along the side of the lake. Amazing views. Limited parking available.

We drove up to the lower lake which is gorgeous. Dirt bumpy road to the lower lake. We didn’t drive up to the top upper lake due to fear of heights in our group. Simple walk to the lower lake and the views are just lovely. Path around the lower lake is also easy. Had fun in left over snow piles. No goats, not sure if they’re only at the upper lake but we saw none.

Stayed in Breckenridge for the last weekend of October and looking for something to do away from the wildfires. Highly recommend coming here! It’s only about a 20 minute drive from breckenridge and a beautiful way to get out of town and get some fresh mountain air.
The drive up to the lakes actually isn’t too bad....and I hate heights! Just keep your eyes on the road and it isn’t bad. A four wheel drive/AWD isn’t necessary (I don’t think), but I would still recommend it. There are some bumps and potholes and when we went, there were a couple of icy patches. So it wouldn’t hurt to take one if you can. Again, Blue Lakes is a beautiful place although we didn’t stay nearly long enough! The views up there were absolutely breathtaking!

Take Blue Lakes Rd off of Hwy 9 for stunning views! It’s an easy drive on a gravel road to Lower Blue Lakes parking lot. It’s just a short walk to the shoreline and your photos will be amazing! You can cross the stream and hike the trail or just drive up to the next parking lot for stunning views of the lake and valley. There is also a waterfall and trail from the upper parking lot. You can walk across the dam of Upper Blue Lake and hike the trail beyond.

Great place to visit and hike. Enjoyed the drive here as well, from Breckenridge, on a wonderful sunny fall day. Well worth it. Take a look when you get to the parking lot as you might well see mountain goats, as we did. Quite amazing!! They were obviously used to people as they didn't seem to care that we were there. Highly recommend this outing from Breckenridge! Nice little hike as well.

Read the road was closed to this so we were going to Lower McGullough Gulch. When we got to the road for that it was closed (I THINK only for two weeks M-TH) so decided to drive ahead and see if the road ahead was open and it was (all in the same area). Super bumpy road as you have read. We had a Tahoe so were fine but did see smaller cars not 4 wheel drive that had made it just fine. Just GO SLOW and look at the road as you go. Very easy walk, not really a hike. There is a small spot to cross water, so if you are older or unsteady a hiking stick would help in this spot but other than that nothing much. We walked to the falls, again, there is a bit more of a "climb" to the top (we had my 70 year old parents with us for this). The views are beautiful, a nice spot to even have a picnic if you are okay sitting on a rock or something. We got cool here, the lake really has a breeze that flows across. It felt great for this family from Houston trying to escape the heat! We got some great family photos at the lake and also the top of the waterfall.

We spoke with a resident while hiking in cucumber gulch. She recommended blue lakes. We were originally going to mcCullough falls, but the crowds were tough so we aborted and went to blue lakes. There was parking. The lakes were great. We saw marmots and Rocky Mountain Sheep. Scenery was breathtaking. We had a great time
