Great road to see the Aspens in Fall
Sep 2019
This is the best time of year to see the Aspens and other trees change colors and this is the curvy road to do it on. Don't speed.

Easy hike with a beautiful view, was on a trip with friends who are not hikers so it was nice to have an easy trail with awesome views.

NIce Hike

Actually well worth the effort, and one of the few place I hiked around Boulder that wasn't crowded.

Had a nice hike through Sugarloaf. Great scenery, challenging but not too much for novice hikers. Do it!

Great Views
Mar 2018 • Couples
Very nice hike up the mountain - fairly easy but tough for an east coast girl not used to the elevation! But such great views so didn't mind stopping every once in a while to take them in. Highly recommend on a clear day. Not many people there at all on the Sunday we went.

Scenic drive on Sugarloaf
Jul 2017 • Friends
This is a paved road that turns off Boulder Canyon road. This residential area provides beautiful views and a look at mountain living close to Boulder.

We eloped to Denver and got married at Sugarloaf! Magic hour on this mountain was blissful! Experienced driving is required to get to the top!

Betasso Preserve
Jun 2016 • Friends
Betasso Preserve is a hidden gem on Sugarloaf Mountain. Great views of Boulder and the plains to the east. Rocky outcrops that are fun to scramble on.

hike with kids
Dec 2016 • Family
We did this out-and-back hike with 4 kids -- ages 5-9 -- and it was fine. It is 2 miles total, 500 foot elevation gain, we took 2 hours with not much time at the top. Fine views of Boulder Valley and Mt Long. It was cool so we didn't tarry but it would be a good picnic spot in good weather. Trail had some icy spots but generally has a southern exposure to clear off small accumulations.

Steady upward climb with nice views at the top
Nov 2016 • Friends
This hike is a reasonable drive outside of Denver. The last bit of getting to the parking lot is a dirt road that was a bit bumpy. It was fine even in a very small car.

The hike wasn't long distance-wise. It was steadily uphill the whole way to the summit. It took us 25 minutes to go up. My local friend said this was fairly quick.

There were a lot of tree roots and loose rocks so be very careful coming back down so as to not twist an ankle. Sneakers were okay footwear so long as you were careful on the way down.

360degree views were available from the summit. It was very windy.

Be sure to bring water and sun glasses.
