Our group of 8 friends did a custom, supported bike trip, from Duluth to Canada, along the north shore of Lake Superior. I worked with Barbara Hoyt to set up the itinerary and she took care of all of the details.

Our guides, Barbecca and Suzi, were excellent. They came in a support van all the way from Colorado. They met us in Duluth, where we left our cars. The support van had everything we needed for the trip. It seemed like they had thought of just about everything. They even brought two extra wheels to cover the possibility that one of use might, say, hit a pothole and damage the wheel on our own bike.

Timberline is an outstanding active travel company. I would highly recommend them for a custom bike tour. We would definitely go with them again and are, in fact, going to check out their set bike tours and their hiking tours.

I have just completed my seventh hiking trip with Timberline. In all of them the guides have been great. The most recent trip was to Yosemite National Park, with guides Suzi and Joe, both of whom were excellent guides, as well as being fun to be with! As with all Timberline trips it is made clear at the beginning that this is your holiday and the goal is to enjoy it...and this has certainly been the case for me. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed during the hikes and at the mealtimes, while the guides are first rate at explaining the days hikes, covering the challenges that may be faced on the next hike, and also keeping the group together during the hikes.
The accommodations chosen are generally very good and meal venues also good, though in some more remote locations the choices are limited. The small number of people in the group (4 to 9 in my case), is an advantage in that rapport develops quickly between guests and guides. As a solo hiker ( my husband does not enjoy hiking, so I am on my own for this activity) I have found it easy to fit into the groups, so have no hesitation at signing up for the tours on my own.
There is a rating system for difficulty given on the website, which makes it easier to select a particular trip based on your own ability, and I have found that this is a good indication of the difficulty of the hikes.
Although I have done seven Timberline trips, many of the people I have met on the trips have done many more and some have even lost count!
My contact with the staff at the Timberline office has been very positive, and although I have not met any of them, I have no hesitation in calling to talk directly about any questions I have about upcoming trips. They have been very helpful.

My daughter and I recently did Timberline’s self-guided tour through Kentucky Bluegrass country. The trip was excellent. Timberline did a great job with itineraries, lodging and luggage transfer.

The region is a bikers paradise: beautiful rolling terrain through thoroughbred country, historic sites and towns, bourbon distilleries and more.

Hiking withTimberline Adventures is an excellent way to experience the beauty and wonder of Yosemite. The hikes selected by the guides provided us with some of the best trails and awesome scenery the park has to offer. The website accurately describes the level of difficulty for the hikes which meant that everyone in the group was up to the challenge. With Barb and Joe as our guides everything ran smoothly. They were organized and informed and took excellent care of the group. My expectations were high as I heard very positive comments about Timberline Adventures from fellow hikers prior to departing for Yosemite. The surprise was that the trip exceeded my expectations! This was my first of what I hope will be many hiking trips with Timberline Adventures. Highly Recommend. I look forward to hiking again with them in 2020.

Excellent time. Very well run trip. Good company, well organized, well informed guides. Trails chosen were beautiful. Food was great at all restaurants chosen.

Carol and Joe went out of their way to make everyone feel comfy and ensure we were enjoying ourselves! They were a ton of fun.

Would definitely go on another adventure led by Timberline.

This was my 14th hiking or cycling trip with Timberland, which speaks for itself as a recommendation. I had heard wonderful things about the heavily glaciated North Cascades region of Washington from friends who had explored it on their own, but I wanted the help of expert guides for hiking this remote area, and I was thrilled when Timberline announced a trip for this summer. I think my hiking companions for the week (there were ten of us) were similarly excited to be there and I our guides, Barb and Joe, seemed proud to share the results of their planning. Our days included a good mix of hikes that delivered spectacular views for moderate effort, and some more challenging intervals, including a steep climb to the arm of Sahale Glacier, that also paid off in feelings of achievement. Midweek, we spent a day hiking through the temperate rain forest that I associate with the Pacific Northwest, then over a pass and almost immediately, into a different, more arid climate zone, as the mosses and ferns gave way to sparser forest and the slopes were barren of snow. Toward the end of the week, it was exciting to hike over a spectacular sub-alpine segment of the Pacific Coast Trail.
As always with Timberline, we were comfortably lodged and fed well (especially considering the remoteness of the region), but the focus of the trip was the hiking experience, which was exceptional and memorable.

Thank you for your positive feedback, Larry. We love to add new tours to our offerings to keep our loyal guests coming back. Our objective is always to show the diversity of the areas we are exploring and to take guests to trails they might not find on their own. The great perk on our tours is to spend time with fit, energetic, positive people like yourself. We look forward to the next chance we get to serve and share with you!

This was my first time ever attending a guided group hiking tour, and the experience was above and beyond what I expected it to be. You get to spend time getting to know your group members when traveling to and from trailheads, and share stories during meals, but you also have the opportunity to find solitude out on the trails as everyone hikes their own pace. There were many times when it felt like it was just my husband and I out there, but guidance was easily accessible if needed.

The guides did an excellent job selecting the hikes for the week, as we only saw a few others that weren’t a part of our group. The views were jaw-dropping and challenged me more than I expected them to (in a good way)! And that’s coming from an avid hiker.

Joe and Barb were fantastic guides, and I would highly recommend Timberline Adventures if you want to be able to show up and hike, soak in the views, and have everything in between taken care of.

I spent the week of my fiftieth birthday hiking 50 miles with Timberline in The Adirondacks and it was the most memorable and meaningful way for me to celebrate this milestone. Spending a week in nature and challenging my body in the company of a warm and fun group of people was the best way to usher in a new chapter of my life, one that I know will be filled with many more adventures with Timberline. This was my second trip with them and both trips have featured challenging and varied hikes, delicious food, fun people and unique accommodations. I can't wait to hike with Timberline in Ireland in 2019!

Just completed a 7-day trip the included hiking in Taos and Santa Fe in New Mexico and Great Sand Dunes National Park and Ojo Caliente Resort in Colorado.

The hikes covered a wide range of scenic views that were amazing! We hiked up Gold Hill (which is located within the Sangre de Christo Mountain Range) through snow, down into a canyon to view the breath-taking confluence of the Rio Grande and Red Rivers and hiked to the High Dune in Sand Dunes National Park. It was exhilarating, challenging and fantastic. All aspects of the trip (lodging, meals, transportation between locations, additional equipment) were covered by Timberline. The only additional expense was airfare to/from Albuquerque, NM which is where the hike started and ended.

Barb Hoyt was the lead guide (also owner of Timberline). Barb has over 35 years of hiking experience, she made the trip quite memorable with her vast knowledge of the region, her tips and guidance for hiking, especially at high elevations, as well as her open and inclusive personality. If you have a question…she has an answer! Barb made sure we had a great time, were well fed and felt safe throughout the trip. Her love and respect for the outdoors was awesome and contagious!

Our second guide, Donna Daniell, is the founder of Balance Your Life Coaching & Psychotherapy. She coached us on personal empowerment activities around mindfulness and self-compassion periodically throughout the week. In addition, Donna is an avid outdoor enthusiast who supported each member of the group to achieve our personal hiking goals on the trip. Thank you, Donna!

Our hiking group was a perfect size (total 6 people). It was a delightful group of people and a real joy to get to know each one. This appears to be the kind people that are attracted to Timberline! Which is just icing on the cake of a week long trip.

This was my first trip with Timberline Adventures, but will not be my last!
