Desert Christ Park Was a Great Experience!
Mar 2021 • Friends
Scenic Yucca Valley, located in Southern California, features many intersting places to see and things to do.
We recently visited The Desert Christ Park that features the sculpting work of artist Antone Martin. This collection of steel and reinforced concrete sculptures features places from bible experiences of The Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The project was unveiled on Resurrection/Easter Sunday in 1951and continued being added to through 1961.It was a collaboration of Antone Martin and Reverend Eddie Garver as a bench mark for "peace on earth and good will".
There is no charge to visit, free parking, restroom and a bench to sit on and have a pik nik or relax!
You can walk around the stunning sculptures in about 30-45 minutes so it makes for a nice stop on your Yucca Valley/Joshua Tree/ 29 Palms adventure!
There is lots of great photo/IG opportunities here of the park and the scenic views of Yucca Valley from the park.
Set on a beautiful hillside near Yucca Valleys Hwy 62,Desert Christ Park is open daily till dark and is a great stop for everyone who is visiting Yucca Valley,Joshua Tree,29 Palms and beyond!

Enjoying the statues of Jesus who healed people.
Feb 2020
What a beautiful garden with statues. It is all about Jesus and his disciples and children.

Some were a bit broken. It is amazing.

There is a Rock Chapel made in 1954

It shows Jesus that helped people. He was the healer.

Some of the statues are a bit a little broken.

Still it is attractive!

Stopped in our way to Joshua Tree National Park. Worth a look whether your religious or not. Spent a good amount of time attempting to get a photo of the elusive roadrunner who hangs out here.

A visit to get to know Jesus.
Jan 2020
Anyone can entering to see the Desert Christ Park. It is all about Jesus, since he was born and to his death on the cross. He resurrected and gave those who accept Jesus will be saved.

There were some small damages in some of the statues.

It is free.

I liked that gardens.

A must see!

Only for the religiously devoted

IMO this has virtually no interest for anyone who is not deeply religious, and even for them this is pretty uninspiring

But maybe I just don't "get it"

Respectful of Jesus'Biblical Stories
Feb 2020
I remember as a child with my Mom and Dad driving past the location about 1952 or 53, we saw one big white statue of Jesus set far back along the road in Yucca Valley, and my Dad commented some man was trying to build a park about Jesus. We never stopped to investigate, but my curiosity lingered until now, when I decided to see what happened with the Desert Christ Park. Approaching, I could see many large, white concrete statues spread along a hillside next to a large church. I turned onto the gravel driveway and drove to a large gravel parking lot where a construction-style restroom and a few picnic tables (among others thruout the park) waited for picnickers. There were a couple of other parties enjoying the park. I entered a path to a little kiosk containing information about the park and the artist who built all the statuary from 1951 to 1961, and a nice little map of the park and a place to give donations for the park's upkeep. All the statuary were larger than life-size, gleaming white, and scattered in groupings depicting like Christ's Sermon on the Mount, Blessing the Children, Garden of Gethsemine, Christ's empty tomb at the first Easter, and many others. Most of it was in good shape, with others undergoing in-place restoration. I enjoyed wandering about with no guides there, and recognizing all the depicted incidents. The artwork was good but not great, and certainly respectful of the project. I think I was there an hour to 1.5 hours, not having a picnic.

A great layout of various stories of Jesus. Statues throughout depicting various acts of Jesus. Mary and Martha talking to Jesus, about Lazarus, Woman at the well, The tomb, Sermon at the Mount, etc. The statues were done by one sculptor from 1951 to 1961. The statues are about 12 feet high.

Extraordinary
Aug 2019
This free attraction is peaceful and beautiful in a very unique way. Large statues depict biblical themes and there is the cutest little rock chapel that is star shaped on the property too. Watch where you step because it is all outdoors in the high desert and ask for property owners to open the chapel if you wish to see inside because it is otherwise locked. This attraction can take a few hours or a few minutes depending on how much time you want to walk, read, or photograph. Still it's worth a visit.

Beautiful and Peaceful

I have visited several times and each time it gets more beautiful. They seem to be restoring the statues and they look remarkable. It is a very peaceful place to enjoy and reflect. The history here is great!

A 2 minute side step from Hwy 62...
May 2018 • Solo
Though this is a small walking area park, it allows one to step away from the busy highway and appreciate some quiet time. There are a variety of statues based on Biblical themes. A small parking area and a shaded picnic table provide adequate room for the brief time one would stay. No restroom facilities. Walking is on dirt paths. Not all area is on flat ground.
