We were standing in line at the russian river beer co. waiting to sample “PLINY THE YOUNGER”.While standing in the lineup we started talking to Agostino and Michael and found out that they were wine drinkers like lorraine and myself.Agostino gave us a business card with the address of his winery.
Both Agostino and Michael ran small wineries that produced good quality zinfandel’s wines.
While waiting in the beer lineup we said that we would make an appointment to visit the winery for a tasting. We went on line and made an appointment for a tasting.
We went on line to find the address and a map to locate the winery..When we arrived at the winery we were met by Michael.(If you are not into zinfandel’s,and are looking for a wine tasting with all the bell’s and whistles ,then this is not the tasting for you.)
Michael gave us a history of the gamba family and his family and their experience in making wine.
We tasted three zinfandel’s.Two from the gamba winery and one from Rancho San Miguel. All three were excellent in taste considering the age of the wines.
We learned about the different colors of the wine and what it means. We learned how to read the different markings on the barrels. We talked about winery”s that’s use water to help rush the buds in the spring to create early harvesting.
Both small winery’s don’t use watering to force the grapes for extra yield. Some of the vines are 100 years old.
The conversations was very interesting but the wine tasting was excellent. If you enjoy ZIN’S then i would recommend that you visit this winery for a tasting as you won’t be disappointed if you enjoy ZINFANDEL’S.

We visited Gamba because we love the zin made at this winery. RP rated the 2012 96 points, the highest rating ever for a zin was 98 point, so this wine was fantastic.

We were fortunate to have Gus "the owner" pouring our wines, what a great guy. Learned about the winery, his history and family. Definitely the BEST tasting we had while visiting Napa for the week.

Do yourself a favor and stop by this winery. His 96 pt zin is AMAZING!

This little known to the wine tourist winery is well known in the business, because of its fine, award winning pinots Production is quite small, but available to purchase, not like Rochioli, for example, with years on the waiting list. You will receive a lively and informative overview of the history and operation of this special winery. Make an appointment. You will not be disappointed.
