The museum is a must see for local Mendocino County history. Closely allied to it is the Roots of Motive Power collection of old steam and diesel logging equipment, including several locomotives. Roots has several steam-ups every year. It is supported by a team of dedicated volunteers.

A cute local county museum, that has been updated. New venting and new lighting, lots more signs and placards to explain exhibits. Fun look back at small town in the past, local industry (diary and wine), local native American tribes, and just a fun history of Mendocino county.

We found a great way to spend a rainy day in Willits. What a real treat! Going back in time to a simplier Willits! They creatively brought under one building several original businesses from yesteryear for us to see. I love the Ice Cream Parlor and all the old signs that were rescued and put on display for us to... More

Great place to enjoy local history and to learn about Roots of Motor Power. This museum is a hidden treasure that you will enjoy for years to come as they rotate exhibits.

couldn't believe such a small town has such a fine museum. not the greatest museum in the world but MUCH better than what you might expect. it displays the history of the area with an emphasis on locomotion. if you're there on the right day you might be able to ride a train. worth the stop.

Stopped in here after a ride on the Skunk Train and it was a nice little museum. A lot of early military and native american pieces.

...but the museum store was great! The lovely lady working the front desk was a wealth of information and really has a heart for her work. There were other things to do right there - the park across the street, the steam engines next door - and everyone in our party was surprised at how much time we ended up... More

The Mendocino County Museum is a nice way to spend an hour or two reminiscing about days gone by. The museum has an eclectic collection that shares diverse elements of local history. A new section informs us of local Native American inhabitants and the way they lived. There is an old drug store counter, complete with soda fountain. The more... More

This museum has native American artifacts and a park across the street that has live music during the summer! Definitely a great spot for some history and meeting locals!
