Neighborhood: West Hollywood
For years, West Hollywood has been known as a hub for the LGBT communities in Los Angeles. Today it still maintains the title, but has also become the “it” neighborhood for the entertainment industry’s up-and-comers. Producers, directors, writers and aspiring actors call this area home. Known for great boutique shopping, vintage clothing stores, home décor shops and fitness studios, West Hollywood is a grid of wide boulevards and narrow residential streets. The neighborhood also has a concentration of the most avant-garde restaurants in Los Angeles (rivaled only by the burgeoning restaurant scene Downtown). A trip to the iconic Sunset Strip, with its many clubs, music venues, hotels and flashing lights won’t be forgotten.

Being a big Vanderpump rules fan I was excited that on our visit to LA we managed to reserve a table. We arrived 15 minutes early to be told by the hostess that our table was not ready. I asked if we could take drinks in the bar and she responded a despondent yes. The Barman was friendly and our request for Vanderpump rose was turned down as the bar had ran dry! We chose two cocktails that were delicious but I was then told by credit card was not working. I knew I had just used it an hour earlier and asked him to try it again, and then it miraculously worked.
At our reservation time I assumed someone would come find us and after 5 minutes after the time I asked a waiter who said I needed to go check with the front server who told me the table was running late and to to come back in 10 minutes. Why could they not come tell us when our table was ready when they were at fault? Poor service!
We ordered our meal and more drinks after a good wait and we were very disappointed with our choices - the boneless chicken was fatty and had bones and the shrimp and cous cous was gritty and I didn’t expect it to be freezing cold. The lobster mash was the only dish we enjoyed and it was delicious. We turned down desserts as we had been so disappointed with our food.
The one saving grace was the filming of series 12 was underway and James Kennedy was in the building, but he only played 3 tracks before he was called back into filming. The two Toms were in the building also and both posed for photographs - Schwartz was incredibly sweet, but Sandoval rolled his eyes at us and looked down on our request so it made me realise he certainly lives up to his poor reputation.
A restaurant that trades on its celebrity status in my opinion that is starting to look very shabby - only waste your time if you’re a fan as the food, service and surroundings are poor x

I came here for brunch with friends and paid $20 for an egg white omelet that only contained gruyere cheese. On the plate we're also three burnt slivers of bread that would have chewed up your mouth worse than Cap'n Crunch and a very small sad looking half a tomato.
Another at the table got the salmon which she said was delicious but was a small piece floating in a bowl with what looked like a bit of potato soup. Her words were "I'll get some real food at our next stop".
The other two got eggs Benedict and a burger that looked good and they said we're just fine
On a positive note, the service was very good and the atmosphere was delightful.
Will I be back? No.

Very good food. Onion soup was cold, but was removed from the bill. Skirt steak and lobster mashed potatoes were amazing. Lasagna was flavorful but could be hotter. Blackberry cobbler was to die for. Service was good and prices were reasonable. Would return.

I came here on a family trip as my niece is very enthralled with the show. Maybe that was her mistake. Being I've never seen the show I had zero expectations. Maybe that was my saving grace.
Just like everything else in Southern California, all is not what it is portrayed to be. Scratch the surface and all that glitters is not gold. I would not recommend actually scratching the surface at this place or you will have grime under your fingernails.
Sure, this place has a very captivating decor with all the flowers, colors, and greenery. I will give it that. Here's where it went south for me. When we were seated the cushions were all spotted and stained. The white table cloth was covered with paper, which indicates that they don't trust their clientele to not eat with their fingers, shovel food in their mouths, and slop all over. The bathroom cleanliness was on par with a gas station. If that level of unsanitary standards are in full view of the customers, God only knows what is lurking in the kitchen and behind the bar.
The food was at best underwhelming. Trying to give it a facelift with cute-sy dots and swirls of attempted culinary art for presentation can't hide the lack of flavor.
I think the owner of this place is more interested in self-fame than running a quality restaurant. The next show this place will be featured on is Bar Rescue with John Taffer.

This is the 3rd time I visit and it’s because friends wanted to get the vanderpump experience. When we were seated Peter cane to by to greet us and was gracious enough to take a picture with us. That was the highlight. The waitress was not attentive at all. We had to keep asking to refill our water glasses. Once she took our order never came back to check on us to see if we needed anything. We wanted to get another drink and were so turned off by her that skipped ordering anything else. When we ordered the cheese balls that we heard so much about she didn’t tell us that only 3 come per order. There were 4 of us at the table. Would have been nice to know that. Hard to share them when they were so small. She just didn’t seem to be bothered. Food was ok. Very disappointing experience. I say skip it!

If you are a fan of Vanderpump Rules, this is a must! I got to meet some of the cast and it was a blast. The food was just okay, but the prices were not bad at all, and it was so much fun. I made reservations about a week in advance, and it was a good idea because it was packed.

host with dark long hair with accent was very rude and ignored me at one point. Had a reservation but said we still had to wait at the bar and wait for a txt to be seated first. very disappointing. Loui our waiter was excellent, 5 stars to Loui, 5 stars for food but unfortunately because of that hostess I wouldn't recommend sur.

Since we had dinner reservations at Pump, just down the street, we thought we'd check out SUR for cocktails first. It did not disappoint. As with other restaurants of Lisa Vanderpump and her husband, Ken Todd, the décor was fun and imaginative. Since we did not dine here, I can only speak of the bar but it was lively and the drinks were well made. Peter, the manager, who also appears on Vanderpump Rules, was present and was asked to pose for photos a number of times, including with me. He was very gracious.

Bar staff didn't know a simple drink and instead of finding out how to make it, they asked me. Not hard to google how to make lemon, lime and bitters.

When I first thought of booking reservations to celebrate my birthday at SUR in LA, the idea was inspired from watching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. After I booked I so hoped that I had made the right decision because what I didn’t want to do was give more $$ to someone who didn’t need it for a not so good experience!
The experience did start when I called to make reservations… THAT was a bit rocky. The person who took my reservation wasn’t extremely pleasant or very friendly. I have to say I was leery at that point.
When I (we; my guests and me) arrived the young lady who checked us in was a bit cold… not very friendly, but more “matter of fact” . I do believe someone in a “hostess” position should be a bit more on the friendly side and not the “ok you’re here, I have to seat you” side.
The restaurant has many rooms, nooks and corners. It is imaginative and eclectic in style… it is a beautiful restaurant. We were walked past the bar area and to the back patio/room…. It was draped with candles on each table, cool lighting and beautiful flowers.
Once seated and my party arriving we met the one best person that worked at SUR. Abby was great! She was fun, pleasant, happy and took the best photos. She made a point to check in on my party throughout the evening and I even thanked her for being so great. Our server was also very good... attentive, and friendly.
The menu is varied and has something for everyone. The food was pleasing to the eye and delicious to taste. The drink menu also has a bit of a whimsical feel… and they were tasty!
It was my birthday and SUR made me feel special. After dinner the staff arrived with sparklers that really made a spectacle… That again, made me feel special.
One thing that is interesting at SUR is that when you dine there.. you are given 2 hours to dine; hey have reservations stacked like that. One thing that made up for the fact that we were enjoying ourselves, but had used up our 2 hours was that our “wait staff person” reserved a table for us to continue our fun on the patio. We SO appreciated that!
The patio at the front of the bar is intimate but cool! We were right by the DJ which made it fun to just get up and dance. We enjoyed the music, some more drinks and even went backwards and had some appetizers.
All in all I would SUR lived up to the hype and was just a great restaurant experience that had nothing to do with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I would recommend that some of the workers; especially the young women that interact directly with the customers, be a bit more nice and communicate more pleasantly.
I am happy to say that I would recommend SUR or dinner, drinks, dancing… any and all of the above!

Hi, visiting in Aug, need to know if I book sur restaurant, what are my chance of seeing any of the staff from show? Coming from Aust and would love to meet some at the restaurant

The menu is geared for adults - but perhaps you could ask for something more kid-friendly for your three year old. Ms. Lisa Vanderpump knows that people from all over and all ages come to her restaurants, so I wouldn’t have an issue asking for something that might not be on the menu.

When is a good time to plan a trip and see all of Lisa's restaurants and see the Vanderpump cast, as I'll be coming from Buffalo NY! Thanks 👍

Planning a trip to LA? Awesome!! Well, that depends - do you want to try and go when they are filming? They start filming (I believe) in the beginning of May. Though, they do all work there and even when not working, some of the cast members will stop in. I only made it to Sur, but I have a friend that loved Pump, too, and met Lala and James. Jax, Katie and Tom were at Sur when I was there (they weren’t working). She has opened at least one more place, “TomTom” since I’ve been to LA. From what I understand - filming takes about six months - so May to November. You need reservations for Sur. Good luck!!! Enjoy Los Angeles!

I would like to take my wife and our 6 year old for brunch. Are children allowed?

Hi, we dined at SUR last November for dinner and the food was amazing, a little expensive but thoroughly enjoyed the experience . Going for brunch shouldn't be a problem for the whole family but definitely book. They have an outside courtyard area which would be perfect for brunch. I hope you enjoy.
