Dan, the owner, and his staff make me feel like I am at home everytime I go here. They are pet friendly too. Good quality beer made in house, priced well and they treat their regulars right. A great place to have some beer and relax.

As a beer blogger with greatbeernow.com, I am always on the lookout for new breweries to visit. I took a recent beercation to the Carlsbad, California area and got to experience lots of new beer and meet new people. One of our visits was to Arcana Brewing, a small place with loads of personality. Arcana Brewing isn’t the easiest place to find, and that is because it is located in a business strip mall where it blends in with surrounding companies. You may have to drive around a few times before you find it, but the small inconvenience is worth it in the end. Arcana is friendly, laid back, and non- pretentious, which is exactly how I like my craft breweries. The atmosphere features art on the walls, barstools and a couch for sitting, dart boards for play, and beer- minded people ready to converse about the beer, family matters, or any pressing issue of the day. Arcana Brewing can be counted on for about 12 to 15 beers on tap at any given time. About half of the beers on tap are the brewery’s year- round offerings. The rest are seasonal or special releases. The beers are good overall, my personal favorites being the Headbasher IPA and Fly Guy Rye IPA. I like my hops, and these two beers certainly deliver what hopheads like me love best in their beer. Arcana Brewing doesn’t serve any food of its own, but it is common to find food trucks serving food so that guests don’t go hungry. They don’t allow anyone under 21 inside, with the exception of dogs, provided they are on a leash. They often have live music, too, and the non- pretentious and laid back vibe make for a pleasant stopover. I’m glad my beercation group planned at visit to Arcana Brewing and I recommend it to craft beer fans who are looking for good times and good brew in this coastal town.

The location can be difficult to find as it is on the back side of the second row building from the street. Once inside you find a casual and eclectic space. The beers are not of the typical SoCal varieties. They include a braggot, an apple ale, along with some old world styles and occasional sodas. The owner is very knowledgeable and friendly. On weekends you can find food truck options.
