One of the stand out experiences of our trip to California. We originally wanted to see the redwoods at the Avenue of the Giants but it was too far away from where we were staying at Fort Bragg, so we chose Montgomery Woods instead. This...More

Beautiful old growth redwood forest. Giant ferns, great seclusion. The longest 13 mile drive you'd ever take. We were in no hurry and had nobody in the back seat. Road would not be good for car sick children.

My hiking buddy & I had a wonderful time at Montgomery woods state reserve. Since we went in May, it may have been too early for maintenance of the trail. The trail head had a nice map of a forest loop. But as we spoke...More

A soul cleansing hike through old growth Redwoods. Some of the tallest trees in the world are on this relatively easy hike. Layer up and have decent walking shoes.

This is not an easy place to find, but if you don't have the time to drive far north to the well known Redwood National Forest, then come here to Montgomery. The parking lot holds maybe a half-dozen cars and there is a toilet facility....More

A bit of a hike but a big bang if you are into Old Growth Redwood Groves. This one is a real gem, a real sanctuary. A very peaceful place to walk and meditate. Magical hardly begins to describe it.
