For the modern family that prefers substance with a unique, laid-back style, Northstar California Resort combines California cool with high-end luxury, on-mountain exhilaration with a sophisticated alpine village atmosphere. Halfway between one of North America's coolest mountain towns and one of the world's most beautiful alpine lakes, Northstar is a destination on the rise, having poured nearly a billion dollars into creating Lake Tahoe's premier luxury snowsports experience. Upscale shops, refined dining and Lake Tahoe's only five-star slopeside lodging is married to impeccable grooming, incredible tree skiing and enough variety to challenge every level of skier (and world-class terrain parks to keep the kids busy). Those who come to Northstar know what they're looking for. Sometimes it's adventure, sometimes it's to learn, sometimes it's to relax in a welcoming place with family and friends. No matter what that experience is, they'll find it to be exactly the way it should be.

Have some skillz? Board/ski the Sugar Pine Glades on the Martin lidt.and then tell your friends.... That how you get your $$ worth. Good times. Solid operation, make your own runs. Have fun!!

We had to wait over an hour to rent skis on a Tuesday morning in March. Not because there were so many people but because they were SO UNDERSTAFFED. This is crazy and led to a super disappointing start. Epic resorts fail!

Visited there last feb for a day trip, my 4 & 9 year old enjoyed the ice skating rink. They have nice shops and restaurant in the village. Would love to stay there next time.

Disclaimer: I am an expert skier, but still I can find the joy in shredding groomers in a place like Vail. Vail, this place is not. Sure, the comparisons could be made: faux village, inconvenient parking, high priced tickets and food (even by ski resort...More

I moved to California three winters ago, and this year had the opportunity to ski at Northstar four times (went once last winter, but it was in the middle of a raging blizzard, so couldn't really tell what was what). Of the Tahoe resorts I've...More

Trails are good for all ages; not many shops and restaurants in the village but still a great family place. Easy to get to; we flew in to Sacramento and the drive up was pleasant. Good lifts, crowds moderate. Accommodations were good. Snow was great...More

When I asked around for the best place to ski in Lake Tahoe, all of my friends recommended Northstar. Having been there for Spring Break, I couldn't be happier about choosing this resort over any of the others. We stayed in the Ski Trail condos,...More

The skiing here is always fantastic although I would not recommend it for beginners. Come to enjoy the village and atmosphere even if you're not a skier. The shuttle system from the free parking area to the village operates very well. Our visit came to...More

They opened thanksgiving and the snow was good. Then they got 15 inches that weekend so it's looking good. Go to Northstar website and they give snow reports.

Depends on your budget. Staying at the village will be pricey but you won't have to drive far or not at all. Kings Beach has regular lodging (motel/hotel), and not too far to drive - Truckee is closer, but less lodging... More
