For the modern family that prefers substance with a unique, laid-back...

For the modern family that prefers substance with a unique, laid-back style, Northstar California Resort combines California cool with high-end luxury, on-mountain exhilaration with a sophisticated alpine village atmosphere. Halfway between one of North America's coolest mountain towns and one of the world's most beautiful alpine lakes, Northstar is a destination on the rise, having poured nearly a billion dollars into creating Lake Tahoe's premier luxury snowsports experience. Upscale shops, refined dining and Lake Tahoe's only five-star slopeside lodging is married to impeccable grooming, incredible tree skiing and enough variety to challenge every level of skier (and world-class terrain parks to keep the kids busy). Those who come to Northstar know what they're looking for. Sometimes it's adventure, sometimes it's to learn, sometimes it's to relax in a welcoming place with family and friends. No matter what that experience is, they'll find it to be exactly the way it should be.

Vail is simply best practices in running ski resorts. They know their customer and aim to please. Here are a couple of things they do: 1) Make sure that their resort opens on time and delivers a high quality product. 2) Their employees are friendly and make sure the customer is happy, and always right! 3) Their food blows away... Last year we stayed at Heavenly and this year some 15 friends went to Northstar. Heavenly pros: cheaper ski passes & rentals, the Lake Views are just insanely beautiful; more convenient logistics inside the resort, easier to navigate between supermarket, restaurants, bars, lifts, hotels, parking lots; more dining options; shuttle buses between lifts etc; easier to book shuttle from airport... We visited Northstar and stayed at the Ritz. Theslopes were varied, well groomed and the lifts are quick and efficient. The weekends, however, are very crowded and the lift lines can be extensive. Skiing during the week is the best

This place looked magical when it was snowing heavily. We were suppose to go snowboarding and dog sledding but because of the weather, most of the activities were cancelled. Nevertheless, we still enjoyed exploring the facilities of the resort and just walking around checking out the place. We will definitely come back next year!

Glad to return. I loved skiing here. I like it here better than Colorado! I can't wait to come back.

Very nice resort with efficient rental system. Still surprised at the cost of Lucy tickets these days, but that's the same across the country. Food mid mountain was overpriced, but typical. The only thing to make note of was the traffic leaving the resort. Either go early before the lifts close or stay and have a beer. 2 lanes of... More

Drove in from UT for President's weekend expecting big crowds and we were so impressed with the systems in place to handle the crowds and get everyone on the mountain. Northstar is a great mountain, stay in the backside for less crowds. Expect lots of snowboarders and super friendly people on the lift who were happy to give us tips... More

Northstar is our family's favorite ski resort in the Lake Tahoe region. There are lots of intermediate runs that are wide with wonderful views. Most of the chair lifts are at least high speed quads. On a windy day when the gondolas are closed at Heavenly, Northstar's are almost always open. The picturesque village at the base of the main... More

My very first time to North Star could not have been better. Terrain is awesome and all the lifties are super nice with great customer service. Ski Patroler Kody W. was great answering all my questions about the resort. I really felt like I knew where to go after talking with him. I will definitely get another season pass next... More
