You can't stop by Temecula without visiting the famous Wilson Creek.
We had a lot of fun here, and the pour was generous. But the reason why we didn't give it a 5-star reflected the winery's inefficient process of purchasing wine tasting.
First, you have to pay for the wine tasting tix at the cashier inside the shop (even if you want to enjoy tasting outdoor). But, if you're going to try their famous decadence chocolate wine with a splash of almond champagne in a chocolate cup, you will have to make that purchase separately at a bar (indoor) and consume it right there. So effectively, you will have to get on two separate lines to get all your drinks in order.
The decadence chocolate wine was delicious, and it is a must-try if it is your first time there.
Wilson has vast outdoor space, and there was a band playing when we were there on a Friday afternoon. The tasting was $20 (6 drinks) on weekdays or $25 on weekends. The bartender offered to split our two tastings into four glasses so we could all toast - it was a great idea as the pour was generous!
We didn't find their red wines particularly tasty...so we had some white, bubbles, and dessert wine. If you like sweet stuff, this is the place to check out.
The staff there were pretty friendly too!

Loved the massive outdoor space. The cafe was open for orders, the burgers and pizza were pretty good. They had a frozen wine slushie which was really good. The tasting card was $20 and you get 6 tastings. Stand around a large outdoor wine bar. Only downside was once the sun starting going it down it got COLD fast (BRING A SWEATER) other than that it was great! We joined the wine club. If you have any feeling you might want to join, join it online 24 hours before you go so you can get your free wine tasting. They allow you and 3 guests to go for free as a member. ($80 value)

This was our first stop in Temecula, Wilson Creek have a great selection of wines, from bubbly to bold. The sparkling almond and orange are a sweet treat, the tank 15 Zin, and the bourbon barrel aged Zin were highlights. We went on a weekday and it looks like they might get very busy on weekends. Service was great! Ina? was our server and was extremely friendly and handled about 5 groups simultaneously.

Wilson Creek is known for its sparkling wines and years ago when it began, it was a wonderful experience. Given COVID 19 experience, they have allowed tastings with 6 foot spacing, but this place is mobbed and the wines are overpriced. The chocolate experience you get with the almond sparkling wine now is a separate charge. It is huge and frankly at this point, not something I look for. People are drawn to this winery because it's known, but I think like many other wineries along the Rancho California Rd, they have caved in to being mercenary instead of being a good wine tasting experience. We did like the peach belini sparkling wine, but I don't think paying those inflated prices is wise. I did buy my husband a really cool resort shirt in the store though.

Arrived here and were greeted by a very nice woman who directed us to the grill for lunch. We walked to the grill counter and before we could order the cashier began to wait on two men who came in behind us. The advised her we were there first she ignored that info. The other server took our order and handed it along with my credit card to the cashier. I signed the receipt but realized we had not been asked if we wanted a drink. I asked the cashier woman what was on draft and she replied but walked away. I asked when could I get the draft and she replied as soon as she finished with those people who had come in after us. Incredibly poor service. Maybe $20.00 for two burgers and $9 for a draft beer was not enough money for her. My advice go to taste the wine but avoid the so called grill.

A group of us ladies booked lunch at the Wilson Creek Winery’s Creekside Cafe on Valentines Day. There were 5 of us in the group. The winery is beautiful and has indoor and outdoor seating, live music, and a gift shop. The food was delicious. I shared the mac and cheese and a salad with a friend, and we were not disappointed. Now, I only gave this a 4 out of 5 stars, because while the food and location was awesome, all of us were a little annoyed with our waiter. He was nice, but the service made us feel like we were at Applebee’s and not a fine dining establishment. We barely got started on our appetizers when our lunch plates arrived. There was no room for everything and we had to eat over our lunch plates to reach the apps. Then not even halfway through our lunch plates he asked us if we wanted the dessert menu. We looked around to see what the rush was. There were plenty of empty tables, so we weren’t holding up another party. Maybe another visit and the service will not be rushed. I hope so, because the food and wine was excellent.

Thank you for letting us know about your experience at the Creekside Grille. While we are delighted that you enjoyed the food and wine, we are terribly disappointed that you felt rushed. We can’t get that time back to be able to fix your visit but we can certainly use this as a learning experience, so that it doesn’t happen again. We will be sure to share your comments with our staff so that when you return you will be able to relax and enjoy your time together with your friends. Please accept our apology and come back soon.

We stopped here on our way from Palm Springs to San Clemente. There was a light crowd of people but I had to wait 20 minutes to buy a tasting “ticket.” There was no one in line ahead of me except the two groups at the checkout. The cashiers spent a long time chatting with them and with each other. When I finally got the ticket we got reasonable service until our bartender took a break and turned us over to someone else who ignored us while waiting on one other couple. He was very discourteous. After we picked the wines we wished to purchase the checkout was again very slow because the cashiers were again chatting with each other.
The restaurant, however, was excellent! Our waiter was very skilled and the food vas well prepared, well presented and very tasty.
We will not return.

We are sorry that you were disappointed with your experience! Thank you for the honest feedback. Although it's hard to hear we appreciate the truth so that we may learn from it. Our guests always deserve courteous service. We are happy your visit ended with a tasty lunch at the Creekside Grille before your drive to San Clemente.

What to get away for a few hours. This is the place to be. Wine tasting is a must if you want to taste the latest wine for a low cost of $25 for 6 samples. If you want to dine and wine make sure you make reservations. The restaurant is a great place to have lunch and the food is excellent. I recommend going early when there less people. Experience it for yourself and you won't be disappointed.

This place was incredible. We are living here for a month and based on a recommendation from a friend that this was the “best winery in the area” we decided to check it out. First, Tina met us at the door and was incredibly kind and welcoming. Massie was our wine tasting connoisseur and a true mastermind at knowing what we would enjoy. Massie went above and beyond and will be the reason we return to this vineyard. Robert was the last employee that we met at Wilson Creek and he made a lasting impression by once again being an incredible host. We could not have had a better time.

On a drive home after errands, we opted for an impromptu turn into Wilson Creek for a first visit on a recent Monday afternoon. We were greeted by a friendly employee who did a temp check and gave us a rundown of the various areas. The Courtyard Bar & Grille offers a few small bites, wine slushies and wine by the glass. Unfortunately, they were out of most of the small bites but we were able to purchase some hummus and a bag of bagel chips inside where we ordered our wine by the glass. I opted for a glass of the 2018 Cellar Select Chardonnay and my husband tried the Cabernet-Zinfandel, both of which were great. We enjoyed our wine and nibbles a table in the courtyard which was shade sail-covered with mister fans. It was Columbus Day Monday and there were lots of people, but there was still plenty of room to spread out. Looking forward to stopping in again for a meal at the Creekside Grill and a tour when they’re doing them again.

Are kids allowed to come? We would have three girls ages 20, 18 and 13?

Yes children are allowed. I think I remember they had some lawn games which would be fun for them. In case I am wrong maybe they can bring a game with them to make the time pass in a fun way. Enjoy!

Can you bring your own food?
Julie H
Temecula, CA1,024 contributions
Yes...to the picnic area outside. You can’t bring food in the wine tasting areas or the VIP area. You will notice some trying to bring food in but it’s frowned upon and they will make you put it away. They sell their food that they want you to buy. However, in the picnic areas outside, like I said...feel free to bring your own.
