Located near the intersection of highways 28 and 89, this visitor center offers area brochures, maps, souvenirs, and excellent advice about the businesses and attractions in the area. We were particularly interested in what hikes were available nearby. There were way too many to chose from without getting some good recommendations. We had asked hotel clerks, city park workers, restaurant waiters, and others but the best advice came from this visitors center. The lady there was very well informed about the trails in the area, having hiked many of them herself. She was extremely pleasant, helpful, and informative. With her recommendation, we drove to the south end of the lake and the Emerald Bay area and hiked to Maggie's Peak just inside the Desolation Wilderness. Has to be one of the best hikes in the area. If you have any questions about what to do and where to do it around Lake Tahoe, I highly recommend this place for information.

We were doing Lake Tahoe circle drive and stopped at this venue for a break..
Uniquely located at the main junction with paking.
The information was wide and the interior was well kept and well appointed. Very relaxing and comfortable seating for visitors.
We also bought few nice items. The staff was so good, friendly and warm.
Highly recommended for all to make a stop at this resourceful venue.

I've never rated (or really even stopped in) a visitor center before. But I was looking for a few post cards and someone recommended this place. I was surprised at how nice it was. Great spot to buy souvenirs that aren't your typical cheesy stuff. A lot items made by local artists, amazing photography and art, and other unique well-crafted things for sale. Amazing resource for books on the history of the area, maps, and tours you can book as well. Definitely worth the stop in.

The visitor center has very knowledgeable staff and always welcome visitors. Their information is accurate and tailored to your questions. They provide local maps, information and also sell souvenirs. Worth a stop as you come into town to learn what's happening on any given day.

This center, at the "Y" in Tahoe City, has a very good assortment of both free literature and maps as well as books and maps for purchase. There is also a section of locally made goods, for purchase. The staff are friendly and helpful.

how dare you book cruises and then just cancel them. it's Summertime in Tahoe! first cruise was cancelled due to lack on people, next day was cancelled due to maintanence issues. Why not have the cruise EVERY OTHER DAY, so be assured of at least semi-full capacity. and again, it's Summertime in Tahoe. shouldn't the boats be well maintained for the Season?! I was up there for my birthday and very disappointed that i couldn't take the lake cruise i was so looking forward to. The Bureau should really look in to and perhaps re-evaluate how often the boats go out. There probably is no need for DAILY cruises.

Staffed by a wonderful lady that made the visit very enjoyable, the Center also stocks some unique gift items that I couldn't resist. Needless to say, it's also chock full of useful local info.

The staff here is SO helpful and friendly. We were coming up short trying to find someone to take us on a boat tour and after a suggestion from staff, had one booked within minutes!

Wonderful employees who took the necessary time to help plan our days in Tahoe. Great location near Fanny Bridge and a park.
