I stopped in to browse at this bookstore, and I was surprised by the great selection it has! There was a wide variety of books, ranging from bestsellers to books about the local region and by local authors. There is a very large children's area in the back as well.

The customer service is superb, and you are made to feel very welcome once you step through the door. I highly recommend to anyone visiting Stinson Beach, or even if you're just passing through, to stop into this bookstore and have a look! You will probably walk out with some books you purchased, just as I did!

Super cute little bookstore on Highway 1 in Stinson Beach. We stay in Stinson every year and always drop by this bookstore for our vacation reading material. The owner is really nice and she always makes sure there's new and interesting stuff to read.

Stinson Beach is a 3+ mile stretch of beautiful, flat beach set against the backdrop of Mt. Tamalpais. It is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. It is one of the most popular beaches on the north coast but during summer months you can expect lots of overcast and fog, just like San Francisco. Expect a 45-minute drive from the Golden Gate bridge, through some of California's most scenic coastal vistas.

The main beach doesn't allow dogs, even on a leash. If you are bringing dogs, park at the far NW end of the park's parking lot and enter the beach there. You'll also find bathrooms and a faucet there. You can bring your dogs anywhere NW (to the right) on the beach, in front of the vacation homes.

The beach is wide, really wide, and flat, allowing the dogs, and little kids, to frolic in an expansive, wet sandy play area. Trust me, your dogs will love this beach!

For walkers or beach runners, check ahead and run at low tide for the flattest wet sand. And of course, early mornings, foggy though they are, make for the best and least crowded runs.

Surfers won't be impressed with the break, but there are kids surfing lessons available 9am-3pm, $400 for a week's worth of group lessons.

Coming from Mill Valley? Take the "back door" route and you'll be at the beach in 25 minutes, not accounting for traffic.

So take a risk, jump in your car and come to the beach! And, don't call the Sand Dollar first to say, "Hi is it sunny there yet ???"

We always do that.

We were pleasantly surprised by the size of this bookstore, and the great selection - especially the kids area at the back! They also have a nice selection of cards, notepaper, and Folkmanis puppets. Definitely worth a stop, particularly if you're travelling with children.

If you enjoy the old fashioned style of book store, this is your place. Quirky, old repurposed house on the main street, this place has a delightful ambience and great selection of good book varieties. Very friendly proprietor, and lots of local books to go with their cross section of paperbacks and hardcovers. Not a huge selection, its not Barnes and Noble, but a great feel for variety. Our 12 year old grandson found 3 books he wanted as his vacation treat, and my wife and I each bought a volume. These places are gems and worth supporting, so if you are in the area, please patronize.

Interesting selection (I had a hard time picking just one) and an easy walk from the beach or the market. Make sure you check out the children's section! It's a cozy little area tucked into the back of the store.

We stopped at Stinson Beach on our way to Point Reyes. Weather was great with a bit foggy. Would recommend to check this secluded beach if you have the time. Flat, spacious and sand is powder like. Large park g lot and surrounded by restaurants on the main street. Nothing Great otherwise.

Excellent beach just 45 minutes north of San Fran. Very wide like FL beaches. Nice breakers too!

An old fashion beach town of Stinson Beach with local eateries only----no commercial joints!

While visiting San Francisco this past August our daughter and son took us to Stinson Beach. It's about an 1-1 1/2 hours north of the city. I had no idea what I was in for. We headed out for an afternoon outing. We had to traverse over Mt. Tam to get there. Being from the flat midwest area of the U.S., just the ride to Stinson Beach was worth the trip. Fantastic vistas, more ups and downs, twists and turns than a roller coaster at Cedar Point, however, the views were breathtaking. One more last turn and we were greeted with a panoramic view of the beach and ocean just below us!
The beach itself was wide and beckoned us to the shore. The surf rolled in as we staked our claim to a small section of the beach. We romped with my son's dog on the beach and watched the novice surfers attempt to catch a few waves. It was a bit on the chilly side, even with the sun shining. We never entered the water other than to wade and I noticed the surfers had on wet suits as well. Other then that, the beach was fabulous and calming.
There are several shops and novelty stores along with a rather upscale restaurant off the road to the beach for visitors. There were also many cottages that I'm sure become occupied on weekends and during the height of the summer season.
The lovely ride through Tam Mt. and the relaxing, serene beach left us all with a renewed sense of living. I highly recommend a day trip to this beach if you're out San Fran way.
